  • LEARN TO PLAY NASHVILLE-STYLE GUITAR WITH LEGENDARY SESSION PLAYER, BRENT MASON: prf.hn/l/KjLZBoO
This clip was shot in the rehearsal hall known as Soundcheck here in Nashville in June, 2005. Five years later, Soundcheck was flooded.
In this video I talk to Brent Mason. Brent is one of the most in demand session guitarists in Nashville. He's played on so many hit records from the 80's and 90's and even to this day.
Brent talks about his influences, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reid plus his home life growing up as he was surrounded by music.

I remember being in a country band in late 90s Warrnel Chappel Nashville was looking at our lead guitarist went and took lessins from Brent Mason to get that Nashville sound down then sent me to get a couple times with Lonnie Wilson. Those guys will forever be my heroes who performed some of the best music tracks ever to come out of Nashville!

Great interview Joe! Love it when Brent said "But I'm not finished yet, don't run me out of town". Obviously a terrifically gifted guitar player! Some people are just born with that ability. Hope that everything is going good on your end. 👍👍😉😉

As always, a great interview with a great player, Joe. I remember well the Brent Mason display at the old MHOF location. I've got a Brent Mason story from several years ago of Brent signing my Hot Wired CD in honor of my dad. I was in Nashville on business and had emailed Brent about signing my CD that used to belong to my dad before he passed away. My dad and I listened to Hot Wired together and always dumbfounded and amazed at Brent's playing. After a few scheduling conflicts, and me leaving town the next day, Brent offered to come by my hotel after he was finished recording for the day. He did, signed the CD in honor of my father and we had a great conversation. I will never forget Brent's kindness in doing that and will always be grateful. Thanks again, Brent!

When I first started hearing Brent Mason on the radio, I thought it was two guitars. I just didn’t believe it was possible for one guitar to play all that at one time. Then I saw him on TV and holy *^&($ :)!

I came back to watch this again because of the way he just dropped into Merle Travis mode so easily. I'm sure he can instantly be 'the same as' anybody he wants for that moment. When he was telling about being in the record store reading his name on the album cover reminded me of the scene in "The Jerk" where Steve Martin was so proud to be 'somebody now' because his name was printed in the phone book. The solo single he talks about with Alan Jackson has a lot of fine playing by a bunch of artists. Brent Mason is much better than I ever realized. Thanks, Joe!

Just looking at all of the equipment behind him....and I know thats only a small part of it that was ruined in the flood. Was a travesty that was. I imagine that there wasn't much footage of that place before the flood. What a great guy and this is very cool interview Joe. 👍🏻😎

Thanks David… I appreciate it… You were so correct with your observation of the gear pictured behind Brent. It’s been stated that the Nashville flood of 2010 was the biggest loss of musical instruments since the Nazi bombing of Europe during WW2. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts… Joe

He’s a fantastic guitar player. The comment at the end was interesting though. Brings to light the competitiveness of guitar players in a place like Nashville. The next young gun is always around the corner and a perceived threat even to a great player like Brett Mason.

If love to hear him jam with young Luke McQueary who plays regularly at Robert's. He's one who's got IT. Robert's always gets the great players. I'm sure Brent has played there many times. I've seen Johnny Hiland there, Jack Pearson, Chris Scruggs, JD Simo, young Daniel Donato. The place is a magnet for excellent guitar players.
