The first 2 minutes of this video could be the intro video to our channel LOL. Completely agree. All arts, but especially traditonal arts "stuck in kata" should cross-train, pressure test and contantly strive to evolve what they do (Shuhari). Great clip, subbed.
Yes you are right my bad and apologies to everyone. Ueshiba was born December 14, 1883 Tanabe, Wakayama, Japan and developed aikido primarily during the late 1920s through the 1930s through the synthesis of the older martial arts that he had studied. The core martial art from which aikido derives is Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, which Ueshiba studied directly with Takeda Sōkaku, the reviver of that art. Thank you for bringing this up 🙏
Aikido is budo. Is the purpose of budo is learn how to fight? Or is it to develop yourself mentally and physically (spiritually?) through rigorous training in highly ritualized violence?
We were already doing this in the 90s. MMA changed the game. Most if not all modern combat styles rely on 2 strike systems. Nobody is throwing one thing at you. Plus the average male has a higher fight IQ than the last 50 years.
@@Braindazzled sorry, using a family member's account. i haven't actually trained aikido, but i have trained bjj. i didn't watch the full video (guess i should have, bad habit to get into), but i honestly think the art has potential. as to the blending and body mechanics, i'll have to do more research.
@@LondonSelfDefenceAcademy Look at old military training films, they all incorporate multiple techniques. Look at TV shows like Lucille Ball shows where she tried to learn self-defense and the instructor taught her techniques from different styles. At UC Berkeley, we learned striking, throws, joint locks, and grabbling in the 70’s in Hapkido classes in sparring sessions. The school also had class in other martial arts from Japan, China, and Korea.
people have used aikido successfully in the past. the training methods are the problem, not the techniques. it's all a matter of doing your best to keep the philosophy.
Thank you very much this is Ondrej I have met Rokas years ago. He is very nice and kind person who treated us very nice and with honour. But when we taught in his classes they didn’t use atemis at all and it was a revelation. Once he (for more popularity sake and UA-cam views sold out and told many bad things about Aikido) he transitioned to other martial arts …which is great. However what many forget Aikido is about enhancing your skills and spirit you cannot be a warrior without deeper understanding of techniques through spiritual, emotional and physical aspect. Rokas will loose every fight he will get into because he doesn’t have a warrior spirit he is just a nice guy who likes to make fun videos which is great and entertaining. 🙏🙏🙏

Not to be rude but problem solution on this demo is actually Silat
It wasn't around in the late 18 hundreds! I don't think it was called Aikido until 1960s.

No music on the background please!
The old ODREJ with new ideas to "flow with aikido"😉
Haha cheers 🙏🙏

who says it can't be both? in my mind, budo should be both self perfection and self protection.

This is interesting, but I don't know if that's quite Aikido. You have some of the basic ideas, but the movement is very different.
the thing that makes aikido aikido is the philosophy, as well as the techniques. adding in one or two things does not make it any less aikido.
@katydavis7800 I didn't know what kind of Aikido you trained, but this video is ignoring very basic aikido body mechanics and "blending."

I don’t know why cureent experts assumed people only learned one thing in the past.
Thank you for your comment, can you please elaborate?

@@leonpse great references thank you very much 🙏
Better yet, stick to a non-meme martial art that works
I understand where you are coming from but stay tuned we will prove you that Aikido actually does work 🙏

If only this video was around before Rokas fought the MMA guy, he could have learned a thing or two.
Thank you very much 🙏
