  • Why I love Aikido? Aikido, is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy and religious beliefs. Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attackers from injury. However it is also a very effective martial art for self defence. Aikido teaches you how to deal and disarm weapons including knifes, how to deal with multiple attackers and various attacks. And this is Why I love Aikido. We are a leading provider of beginner, intermediate and advanced self-defence courses for corporations , private and state schools including courses for 50+ age groups. It's the practioner not the art. Even tai chi has martial application. The only people that bash it have never trained it. And usually it's a received opinion. Not one from experience

The pratictioner does the differences...You're an open minded instructor, you test your aikido while other instructors just play in the gym.

Also take note that aikido, as said by O Sensei, incorporates 80% of atemi waza, striking techniques. In dojos we commonly learn the 20% resting, throws and locks, in order to follow the official rank system.

Brits tend to have a much more practical understanding of Aikido than continental Europe and the US. Most Aikido in these other countries became almost exclusively a form of Aiki-dancing. I guess it is because of the heavy influence of Tomiki's style. Would you agree?

Really depends on every dojo and the sensei also if their development finishes at getting a black belt or if they adopt aikido life and lifestyle philosophy also spiritual values that go much deeper than just techniques ...
