Maybe mainstream music gets more terrible. But the cheaper equipment and easily accessible content allows some diamonds in the roughs to shine through - hiddens gems that would've simply died out in any other period of history.

As a classically trained singer, I love to see people getting into music in general and I want to encourage them. The thing is, there are people out there who think you can just pick it up from anywhere, anytime. That’s not true. There’s theory, technique and a whole lot of practice behind what you hear in opera, for example. These people, they probably mean well, but they probably don’t even how to practice effectively, that takes time and effort. You don’t need a teacher, but you need to reflect on all that you do in a session. Is this good? Why? Is that bad? Why’s that bad? You have to think about it, like with everything else. If you don’t want to do put in the work, don’t, but don’t pretend you did. Unless you’re really good at what you do, that you spent countless hours for it, I wouldn’t recommend even coming close to a stage of any kind. Basically, if it’s not in your heart to interpret or compose music, keep your instrument to yourself, whatever it is.
