with Joe's explanation... I actually think what Bart's mother did was very sweet and loving. She didn't know how to express it. But she accepted the circumstance by creating a charade for herself. Instead of forcing Bart and Geo to adjust to her ideals, she formulated a memory and reality in her own mind so that she can process and accept it more openly and comfortably.
And her offering to "adopt" Joe. That's really sweet. They're laughing at it and says she's crazy. But I see it as a form of love.

Bart's mom could have been messing with you! In a joking sense. Yet, at the same time, she knew Joe and Geo were going to be around for a long time and she wanted them to know they had her blessing to be part of the family!
GEO did play the long game. She had nothing to lose and it was worth the risk if bart never succeeded with jk. Then she would've just left him or stay we'll never know. I believe if she never met bart she would've had a regular career.
I can relate to the part where bart's mom came in to do the random marriage ceremony. My mom is the same where she cant handle her childern living together unless they are married first. Its something that runs in the hmong tradition. Its funny but werid at the same time.
