Been looking at Litchi for a while, this could be the video that convinces me to pull the trigger on it, being able to plan routes "offline" and then pull them in to the App on location is a mega impressive tool
Thank you so much for a look in how to use the waypoint functions. I loved the side by side view and it shows how much a ND filter can make your footage more cinematic.
I only bought Litchi because my new phone (Samsung Galaxy a13) is not compatible with DJI Fly. Now I have to learn everything all over again. I am hyped!
Hi Robert, thanks for trying Litchi and sharing your views. Only thing I can add after seeing other you tubers with DJI drones and waypoints is that the height of drone is determined by pressure and therefore if changes of temperature etc happens this can falsify the height from initial ground level and can result in a crash if you don’t consider this when above obstacles. Advice from these guys suggest recalibrating in between longer tests and if practicing shots beforehand bring back, recalibrate, then do the shots you want.
Aye, I would recommend taking time and care if going for a cinematic shot for a video. In my case, I was just going for a raw test to keep it honest :)
the temp change wont ever be drastic enough to effect it in such a way, you'd have to be experiencing some world ending event for the temps to change significantly to effect it...barometric sensors are plenty reliable
See you Rab, greetings from down-under, took me nearly 2 hours to enjoy your video, between jumping into Litchi, then down-loading Google Earth Pro. I re-traced a video I'd previously posted from Fiji into Litchi, then picked it up into Google earth and watched it replicate my video. Can't wait to get back to Fiji and try my Litchi flight plan. You've given me more info' in a few hours than I could hope to get in a few weeks. Slange
That was very good. I was seeing right and left buttons pushed in set up, maybe that was a keyboard event for you. Still that is scary and and clearly helpful tutorial.
Download the Google Eatrh free app to your computer (not the online website) and you can create a mission, save it as a KVM file, and when you open the KVM file, it will open Google Earth and allow you to virtually fly the mission. Have fun! :)
Done my first mission with a phantom 3. Going round a derelict house. I was that nervous I walked underneath the drone in case of mishaps. This was many years ago. Lol. Safe flying Robert.
I couldn't walk under Lassie or I woulda drowned! Unless, like Connor McCloud of the Clan McLoud, I woulda been able to breathe under the loch and walk along the bottom!
So Many thanks for posting this video, as soon as the Litchi App was released for IOS I downloaded it. Your video has given me the confidence to give it a go this weekend. I am going to try a simple video of me riding my bike. Thanks again. Subscribed !!
Thanks Dave. Have a look at the video I published yesterday. It’s also about the Waypoint Missions and shows what happens if something goes wrong during it. That’ll give you even more confidence;)
Another great video, Robert. The way points appear to work very well. Will get my Litchi thrills watching you - I'm not ready to try it yet and worry about voiding my Care Refresh.
Some people have received info from DJI saying that the drone is not covered by Care Refresh if you use a 3rd party app, some have said that DJI have replied that the warranty is invalid, but the Care Refresh still covers the drone. Other insurance companies will have their own policy on this :)
Dronelink offers far more control with drone and gimbal orientation, ascent control between markers on the path and lots of other stuff, even prohibited zones which is like obstacle avoidance. BUT: it is a steep learning curve. Being a bit geeky I love it though. Like to see you try it out, go on, i'm sure you will like it :)
I may have a look at it once I'm finished playing with LITCHI :) *edit to add: Dronelink is currently only in beta for iOS. Until it is completely available, I'll be using Litchi :)
Thanks for the video, you give me no choice but to get out there in this TX wind! Don't give up on the Follow mode, and hopefully you will explore the Focus mode as well. Glad we didn't have to wait until Wednesday to view this. Your videos give me a lot of confidence to go out there and do it myself.
awesome feature and well covered in this video. Used to live in wigtown. Had family in ayr too so i was up there for a while too. Forgot the name of the estate but it was in middle of no where a top a hill and there was a squatter’s setup on a loch near there that was fantastic as my brothers dads family had caravan there only bad thing was the water was full of pike for the most part. Not been back to Scotland in a long time now so its nice to see this perspective
Impressive, software seems to handle waypoints much better than 'follow me'. Which is just what I want for Roman forts :-) I must also say that for a little drone the really handles the wind well. Thank you for the vid.
She is amazing in the wind! I agree that the Waypoint feature has great potential and I'll be using it a lot from now on. If DJI see just how popular it is, I'll bet they implement it into the Mini 3!
This is amazing! Very helpful, and it convinced me to do the same for my Mini SE. Just completed my first Litchi mission, and it went pretty much flawlessly thanks in large part to your tutorial and example!
I bet it is, Gimbalair, but I have tested a few more things over the past week re follow/track and have finally concluded that it is not a thing you are going to be able to use with the mini 2. I like the Waypoints feature that some 3rd party apps have, but even at that, it is still not 100% reliable and for me, I'll use Lassie (my mini 2) to get some nice footage with me on the sticks, and the occasional circle or helix or dronie from the quickshots. The rest (Litchi, Maven, etc) is a nice try, but ultimately of no real practical and reliable use with the mini 2.
@@WindsweptRobert I use it for profiling a golf hole. I fly the fairway and on arrival at the green do a 360 and helix pull back. Save's me having to fly by hand. But the results are very mixed. It was worth a punt. See someone went up to Queens View the other day. Fav part of Perthshire
Very interesting video Robert and thanks for taking the time. I think it would be a function that would convince me to get the Litchi App - if only there were enough lochs in Scotland :-)
Great video mate i remember 1st mission i flew i forgot to take into account altitude and didn't click from ground my old air was stuck at a tree for 2 minutes lol but did manage to bypass eventually "phew"!.
I'm looking forward to Litchi supporting Mini 3. Was your ND filter also polarizing? It seemed like there was still a lot of reflecting glare off the water.
Great Video!! How did you get it to be a complete loop from the get go? I'm looking to do a continuous loop to document construction progress and want it to be a continuous video. Thanks for all the info already btw!
AWESOME video! Love the way the Mini2 handled the wind during the mission!! Also LOVED your comparison shots with and without an ND filter. The ND 32 really spiced it up! Colors looked great! Excellent Job! Thanks!
thanks for the clear explanations. My work has asked me to fly the same paths over a stretch of years, to show how tree plantings change the landscape over time. like making a kind of Timelapse over years. So this Litchi app looks like the way to go. It would be impossible to do manually.
Excellent video. I'm finding that I'm simply enjoying flying my mini 2 the same as I do with my fpv builds... Namely I just go explore an area flying as smooth as I can. The sun glare on phone or tablet really annoys me though as I'm so used to the darkness of my goggles.
I agree, flying manually is the best fun. But I do enjoy creating the missions on my computer at home and then seeing them in real life :). As for the goggles - have you tried the Dronemask? dronemask.com?aff=19. It really helps with seeing the screen on a bright day ua-cam.com/video/OwoblgCL2Go/v-deo.html
If you'd like to see your name on the screen as a fuel contributor (and it will help me tremendously to continue to get out to film these videos, so thank you in advance!), here's the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/WindsweptRobert
This is a great video. Thank you! Quick question: Is there a trick getting the exported .kml file to animate in Google Earth? I can open the file in G.E. and can see a still-shot of the flight path just as you showed but I do not get the choice to animate it as in your example.
Nice one Robert. Many thanks. I have the lowly Mini SE, and Litchi gives her ideas above her station 😁. I originally loaded Litchi for the 'Orbit' feature, because the DJI one had the drone's flying much too fast. But I found that even in very light winds, the flight was very jerky. Each little course correction looked like it was done by a 5 year old's flying for the first time, so I ditched Litchi. But I may now bring it back for the Waypoints and Follow modes. Do you find that Litchi gives a smooth enough flight in these modes?
I am not a fan of any of the autonomous movements (except for active track). I find I can fly most of the quickshots missions with better results if I do it manually.
@@WindsweptRobert Cool. Kind of you to take the time. I also fly my orbits manually now. But I was wondering about the Waypoints facility featured in this video. I get that it is very useful to you for comparisons, but wondered if it was smooth enough for a mildly professional-looking video? I will of course try it myself, but it would be nice to get your take.
Ahh, my apologies. Ok, I REALLY like the Litchi Waypoint missions feature. It is smooth and it also follows AGL. See here for another video where I show this: ua-cam.com/video/-v9xvbwrwKQ/v-deo.html If that one doesn't help, have a look at this one: ua-cam.com/video/Dz_zjKoe6uc/v-deo.html
I can definitely see where it would be a really handy tool for yourself and film makers like you but i don't see anything in it for me as I'd prefer to fly manually. I hope you get the use out of it though, you could get some complex shots from it!
Flying manually is the best, but it’s interesting to see what you can do by pre-programming the flight. And this feature will be a boon to anyone with a problem which would prevent them from manually flying but still want to get drone footage. E.g someone with Parkinson’s, someone with only one working hand, etc.
Wow that's amazing Robert, can you still take control of the drone with the remote if something goes wrong. And if you lost radio control signal will she abort the mission then return to home, or are waypoints being controlled by GPS not the radio. I love watching your videos you explain things really clearly.
Those are very good questions, Stephen. I will have to go back out and fly a mission and then see if I can take control during it. I'll also test what happens if the signal is lost during a mission for you :)
@@WindsweptRobert I assume it goes to the home point if the radio signal from the control disappears. If not, the app must transfer all waypoints etc. to the drone. But do a test and upload the movie. Interesting to see what happens.
@@Sparrotz Aye, the likelihood is that you CAN take control during the Waypoint mission (without switching to FPV first), and on a disconnect, you'd expect it to RTH. But as I always say, you don't know til you test it! (or until Windswept Robert tests it LOL!)
Thanks, KDN. Auditing Nonsense asked the same question yesterday (or the day before) and so here is my copied and pasted answer: _I have to be honest here. I put together 9 videos for that channel in a space of 6 days, and having to watch through the horrible audit video to get content to react to was making me sick to my stomach. When I was younger I was a bit of a bad-tempered bastard and I used to fight all the time. Got in a bit of trouble for it a couple of times and I know what the inside of a cell is like. While making the videos for this channel, those old feelings of anger and aggression started to come back to me and I even started to dig into one of the UA-cam auditor's background as I was planning to go find him and knock the fuck out of him. That's when I knew this was not for me and I stopped the new channel in its tracks. The videos I made are still there, but I won't be publishing them and I won't be revisiting this idea. Pity, as I'm sure the content of the channel would have gone viral. But my health and sanity comes before UA-cam views :)_
Fantastic robert I really think I will get litchi and give it a try. Was that Saturday you were out by any chance I had the same issue uav got the wind very wrong. I had wind warnings my whole flight and gimbal jumps. Wasn't sure if it was the new firmware or the wind nice video buddy 👍
Firstly, what a great instructional video! As with others on here it persuaded me to purchase the Litchi App. This may have already been covered, but is thete a way of adjusting the gimbal angle during a mission? If not, how is it set during the planning stage? One observation: on both missions there appeared to be a gimbal glitch just after POI 1. Could this have been related to the softwate recognising a change in altitude between waypoints 3 & 4 (70ft down to 30ft)? BTW I saw this initially when you originally posted ut, bought the app and have yet to use it! Seeing it again has rekindled my interest in giving it a try Keep up the good work!
The gimbal can be set at every waypoint on the mission if you pre-plan. Combine this with changing the orientation of the drone (not the direction of flight) at waypoints means that you can have it look in any direction and any angle as it flies the mission. If you have the terrain following feature checked, then it will auto rise and fall with the ground (I have a video showing this too). A VERY powerful app :)
@@WindsweptRobert thank you. If you were to do the same mission again, you could set it so that you could see the horizon early in the flight, with a view of lake and sky. What angle do you think this would need to be at?
Can you do a waypoint test using the ALTITUDE ABOVE GROUND option on a slope? This is to see how much we can trust this option. I live in a very very hilly area and if the ABOVE GROUND option is trustworthy, it would be very useful to me. I assume it gets it's ground altitude data from Google.
Just bought the Litchi app. Awesome job explaining waypoints. I noticed you switched from Dji app to litchi…if I even have Dji app running, the video goes blank on litchi until resetting mini2/remote, and restarting litchi, and quickly forcing Dji app closed. Any ideas?
@@mattroth602 Hmm..sorry, Matt, I have not experienced this. I use iPhone 12 Pro Max and all works well with me, but I had to ditch my iPhone 7 plus because apps started not to work on that.
Hi, Robert! Is it possible to combine Active Track with Waypoints? What I would love to do is to have my drone to track me while I walk by following programmed waypoints. Is it possible?
You can. You can change from Litchi to Maven to DJI Fly at any point during a flight. I do exactly that while using Litchi and something goes horribly wrong while I am in the air a mile away: ua-cam.com/video/jvINs6GQzdA/v-deo.html
So what’s the big attraction with this Waypoint option, Robert? The way I see it is that it’s similar to sitting in the passenger seat of a driverless car with you simply taking in the view. If I was buying a Porsche I‘d want to manually drive it not set a point on the cars GPS and then let it take me there. 10/10 for your research into all things new and techie but long term I‘d be interested to a follow-up video of just how often you have chosen the Litchi app considering one can forget the follow me function as being next to useless. As a side issue, now that the UK has opted out of EU membership are there no drone usage regulations? Here in Germany the Mini 2 being under 250g, but fitted with a camera, needs Pilot registration (not drone) with the issued registration number affixed to the drone. Also required is third party liability insurance in addition to where a drone can be operated. Flying in many of the locations shown in your videos would attract a heavy fine.
Simply, it's fun to create the mission then go out and see it fly. It's perfect if you want to capture the same flight in different weather conditions, seasons, time of day. I'll be able to stitch together a single flight that crosses all of these conditions :) It's also great for comparison tests (Like I explain in the video). As to the regs for drone flying in UK, the CAA website is the best place to look for current information :)
@@WindsweptRobert this is great, i just need a good spot for new project. ua-cam.com/video/T_Z5T7d1dqo/v-deo.html here is one from last year. Thank you
Thanks for the info and great video May i àsk 2 things i am not shure of with the new litchi app just purchased for ios mini i pad 5 Must you close down the fly app as when i start up the mini 2 drone fly app launches So i then launch litchi Second i have no voice notifications in litch with my i pad all seetings are correct And when i revert back to fly app all sounds ok Thanks john
Hi John. you can switch between the 2 apps, even when the drone is in the air (I do this in the video). I don't know why your voice notifications are not working, perhaps if you have both apps active, the DJI Fly app takes precedent over the voice warnings?
Dear windswept After lots of searching about notificaton sounds from litchi on ios mini i pad5 not working It was found you had to do a factory reset of the i pad mini 5 Every thing works fine now But its a fair job to get all stuff back on the i pad mini 5 So if it comes up again you can pass it to your veiwers thanks john
I think the iPad mini might soon be out of date to use with the mini 2. i know my iPhone 7 Plus became unusable because it wasn't powerful enough round about update 1.4.8
Been down to Loch Doon many times, and flew my drone in the same area as your video. In fact I created a youtube video of the Loch Doon and its castle in Dec 2020. I was interested in your waypoint mission, its looks straight forward enough to program, but I have now changed to the RC Remote for my Air 2S. Going back to mobile phone and controller would IMO feel like a backwards move. Have you got a RC remote ? Have you tried the Litchi with the RC Remote ?
Hi, yes likewise, there is the Hyperlapse - way point route, which takes photos so many seconds apart, which can then be converted into an mp4 (or Mov). The result obviously speeds things up.
I tried that already, but the battery on the mini 3 Pro was completely depleted and all I had was a bit of footage approx 9 secs long. Not useable as a waypoint feature.
How do you get the curved, blue lines to show up at the waypoints? My drone goes to each waypoint, then stops, abruptly, then moves to the next waypoint, etc., but it doesn't move smoothly across each waypoints because I can' t figure out in the Litchi app how to make the drone go smoothly between waypoints.
Great video buddy. Thanks for explaining the way point Misson hub in a way even I can understand 😉👍 So can you switch between the litchi app and dji fly app whilst in flight then as it looked like you did 🤔
That's exactly what I did, Graham :) Because it was REALLY windy, I decided to fly Lassie around the mission manually to see that she'd be ok in the wind. I used the DJI Fly app for this. When I brought her back at the end of the flight, She still had about 85% battery, so instead of landing her, i just switched to the LITCHI app while she was hovering, and sent her straight out on the mission :)
@Windswept Robert that's great to know as I wanted to fly with the fly app and then if I decided to use the litchi focus mode etc mid flight I can switch without landing 😀. Brilliant 👏 👌
Thanks for this Robert, I've been following your videos since I bought my mini 3Pro ( which I have yet to fly). I understand Litchi or its equivalent can't be used with the 3 Pro, at least using the RC controller, does this differ if using the RCN1 which I have opted for? It seems that the 3 Pro offers Waypoints but only for hyperlapse, is this correct? I previously flew a Xiaomi (Fimi) Mi 4K but due to new regulations it literally requires a pilot's licence. So I bought the 3Pro to enhance my motorcycle vlogs and chose it specifically for it's almost idiot proof built in features. I've subscribed so I can keep up with your excellently helpful hints, tips and demonstrations 👍
Hi Grey Wolf. As far as I am aware, you can't use any third party apps with the mini 3 Pro yet - regardless of the controller. The sdk was released for mini 2 approx 1 year after its launch, so the same may be true fro the mini 3. :)
Great video! However, I'm just trying to create a mission on my MacBook, but when I tried to save it, it didn't give me the VLM option. Am I doing something wrong? I'm looking forward to more videos from you!
After the disappointing results with the follow and track modes this video makes the app seem more worthwhile. What would happen if you planned a number of mission some miles apart and then you accidentally selected mission 2 when you were in the location 1? Would it fly off to attempt to get to the start point of mission 2? It could be disastrous if I planned out a number of missions for a Scotish islands tour and I accidentally selected a mission planned for Barra while I was on Lewis.
Good question, Tony. I almost did that this morning when I was out to do a requested test! Maybe, I'll set up a relatively safe way of testing this, and get out and about to do it ;)
Cancel current mission by switching into sport mode. Drone stops and hovers. Fly home or load correct mission and fly it. Also, after loading a mission but before starting it, one can review the route to ensure correct mission was selected.
I also bought Litchi but it didn't support Mini 2 on iOS. But now it does. Tried it for the first time today. Great app. And your footage with the ND filter looks great. I think I'll buy that too. What filters did you get?
@@WindsweptRobert i have seen it thanks!! To bad it stopd te mission my fimi x8 mini can do missions without controller connected. Only old drones can finish the mission with signal lost like a mavic 2 thats what i think
The Litchi app really shines on the Waypoint Mission interface. There are SO many options, that unless you use it regularly, its pretty easy to have a 'senior moment' and forget to set something .. as happened to me on my mission last week, which I had to abort & fly manually. It's a good thing you had a Mini 2 and not the Au-Hell Nano, as it would never be able to fly that mission in that amount of wind. I wonder what editing software you are using? I've been using Filmora (since before it was called Filmora) and it recently did a big update .. which means I have to re-learn how to use it .. so my current video project is being delayed until I figure out how to do certain things. Cheers!
I use Final Cut, Bill. I started off with iMovie and moved up to Final Cut when I wanted to have more than 2 layers of footage (iMovie only allows 2 layers, Final Cut allows infinite)
A comment and a question: A great video that demonstrated Litchi admirably and also, the fact you made some errors in programming, made me feel better about the slips I often make as a new drone pilot. Question: I loved the music you used in the video. Could you please identify artist(s)?
Sorry, John. I made this video so long ago I just cannot remember. I'm going to try to remember to include the artist details in my descriptions from now on.
I have had my Mavic 2 zoom for over 3 years now. I have been using the DJI Go 4 app. My question with the Litchi app does it save the flight on the tablet and the drone as the Go 4 app? Does it report flight data to DJI or anyone else as does DJI does? Where can I find more about the Litchi app and what it can and cannot do. How much is the Litchi app cost? Which is the latest version of the software?
New here. How do you find out how high the trees are around a zone you want to plan a fly for? The problem is.. I want to use it for photogrammetry. And I’m worried that it will hit the tree or branch.. any suggestions?
I would fly the drone manually to the top of the tree with the crosshairs active on my screen and see what the height says. Other than that, there's an app on the iphone that lets you use the camera to measure things. That might work. It's a split app between measure and level :)
If Mission 1 and Mission 2 are the exact same mission-- except for adding the ND filter, why is the first mission looking downward at the water the whole time, and the second mission is looking horizontal (the correct way)? What changed in your settings? Because I"m having the same problem... the drone camera is looking down too much during flight.
I think I manually moved the gimbal when I was fitting the filter and it stayed that way instead of resetting. I think you can set the gimbal for each part of the flight, but I didn't do that when I was creating the mission.
@@WindsweptRobert Hi Robert... But isn't setting the gimbal the same thing as setting in your "point of interest" in your mission? Shouldn't the camera be looking at the Point of Interest you have set. I'm setting my Points of Interest (with heights specified, so not just default 0 height), but often the drone camera is looking downward too much... so I get all these videos of looking at the ground.... sort of like how your first mission is just looking down at the water. Your second mission looks so much better because it's looking horizontally. So do you mean you have to physically move the gimbal with your hand before you push start on the mission? Btw, thanks for the tip about the ND filter... I'm gonna buy one just because I can see from your video how great it is.
@@TheFujiwuji I didn't realise there was a difference until I got back home to look at the footage, to be honest, because I was watching the drone in the air most of the time and didn't really look at the screen at all. If I was going to create a mission using Litchi, I'd take a lot more time to plot each waypoint and poi and all of the gimbal settings, drone direction, height, speed, etc. This video was just really about throwing a quick basic mission together and then making sure that the same flight path was flown each time the mission was started. As far as that goes, it works :)
Aye, it adds in something to that calculation - the height of the terrain or something. Still figuring it out. But actually, the drone looked to be approx 10' high from me when she was at Waypoint 1 and 5. This video was just to show if the mission will run exactly the same every time :)
Hmmm..Tom, it's been a while since I messed around with Litchi. If I recall, you have to download a plugin to google earth maybe (it's free) to allow this. But honestly, I can't remember for sure :(
I've read that the mini 2SE is NOT compatible, but I don't have one to check this. Have a look on the Litchi website, they usually list the drones that the app works with :)
It appears that DJI has not released the SDK for third party mapping. There are a couple of other DJI models as well. Says that the Mini 2SE can only use the DJI Fly program which stinks. Spent some good money on this with the hopes of being able to map my property. Hopefully they release the SDK
Gads thst movement is twitchy and the gimble moving very quick. Wouldn't make for very good cinematics. But the following me looks great as it doesn't have I on the DJI platform.
I didn’t spend a lot of time making the subtle inputs to the mission. You could make it as smooth and nice as you like if you take your time programming it :)
@@WindsweptRobert that's a bonus to hear. It needs some fine tuning then. Maybe a few passes to perfect the fine tune as well. Live tuning lol. The follow me is what I want with my mini 2. Might give the app a try at £21 its alot cheaper than dronelink.

You've given me more info' in a few hours than I could hope to get in a few weeks. Slange
Slàinte Mhaith, MrGraham! 🍻
Nice bit of flying the difference with a neutral density filter makes 👍👍
The footage can absolutely be improved with a filter! :)
That was very good. I was seeing right and left buttons pushed in set up, maybe that was a keyboard event for you. Still that is scary and and clearly helpful tutorial.
Love waypoint missions :)
Nice video Robert! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks, Danny. And thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, much appreciated :)
Impressive and all for a Mini2 ... Many thanks! My weekend test :)
Looks really pretty there so thanks for showing the Lat and Long as you did the waypoints :-)
And there's a camping park right there too! I walk around it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/AMcQplu4LlE/v-deo.html
Nice Tutorial. Cheers from Philippine Island!
Thanks, cheers from Scotland! :)
Bloody great that! Just need a drone now…..😂💪🏻🚁
If the mini 3 comes out soon, you'll probably be able to pick up a used mini 2 very cheap :)
@@WindsweptRobert hope so, planning a trip to Jura in September so would be great to have it for then!
Keep up the great work with the videos! 👌🏻👏🏻
Great video, thanks!
Thanks very much, Bob 👍🏼🙂
I think your accent and the way you speak is the coolest part of the video. Very jealous
Don't be jealous, just practice my accent! ;)
@@WindsweptRobert I've heard different answers about using 3rd party apps so I'm going to wait a while and see what happens.
Another brilliant video Robert. I might just try the app for this alone. Thank you. 👍🏼
I think the Waypoint feature alone is worth the price :)
@@WindsweptRobert I must agree.
Nice video Rab always love these places you visit 👍
They're like chicken soup for the eyes :)
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you for another great video 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment again, DRONES AND TECH :)
I have more to look at in the LITCHI app, Scott. I'm giving up on the TRACK, but the FOLLOW still has some potential. I love the Waypoint feature :)
awesome feature and well covered in this video. Not been back to Scotland in a long time now so its nice to see this perspective
maybe Patna?
Greetings from Pakistan Robert 😊
Greetings from Scotland, FR :)
Lovin' it!
Me too!
This is amazing! Very helpful, and it convinced me to do the same for my Mini SE. Just completed my first Litchi mission, and it went pretty much flawlessly thanks in large part to your tutorial and example!
Thanks, Mike. Litchi Waypoints are great! :)
I bought Maven have very little use for way points but the POI Orbit with programmable helix is a nice feature.
I can't walk a hunner feet without running into the edge of a loch! ;)
Great video mate i remember 1st mission i flew i forgot to take into account altitude and didn't click from ground my old air was stuck at a tree for 2 minutes lol but did manage to bypass eventually "phew"!.
I just did a very basic mission for the video. I still have to dive deep on it as it has loads of great features :)
Awesome content Robert, great info . Thank you :-)
I'm glad you found it useful, David. Thanks for commenting :)
Thanks!
Thank YOU Martin! :)
I'm looking forward to Litchi supporting Mini 3. Was your ND filter also polarizing? It seemed like there was still a lot of reflecting glare off the water.
No, it was not a polarizing filter on this video :)
Great Video!!
How did you get it to be a complete loop from the get go?
I'm looking to do a continuous loop to document construction progress and want it to be a continuous video.
Thanks for all the info already btw!
At the end of the programmed mission, the drone will return to the home point, closing the loop :)
AWESOME video! Love the way the Mini2 handled the wind during the mission!! Also LOVED your comparison shots with and without an ND filter. The ND 32 really spiced it up! Colors looked great! Excellent Job! Thanks!
Thanks for the great comment, djduane! I just wish I had the gimbal set to the same position on each flight :(
@@WindsweptRobert you can always run it again!! HAHA! THat's what I tell myself! Beautiful location !
thanks for the clear explanations.
My work has asked me to fly the same paths over a stretch of years, to show how tree plantings change the landscape over time. like making a kind of Timelapse over years. So this Litchi app looks like the way to go. It would be impossible to do manually.
The Waypoint mission feature would be perfect for that :)
Cool job, what’s the name of your conoany
Super cool!
Indeed! :)
Done Robert ( 👍 )
👍🏼🙂
This is a great video. Thank you! Quick question: Is there a trick getting the exported .kml file to animate in Google Earth? I can open the file in G.E. and can see a still-shot of the flight path just as you showed but I do not get the choice to animate it as in your example.
They've actually changed this recently and I don't think you can fly the virtual flight anymore.
See here for another video where I show this: ua-cam.com/video/-v9xvbwrwKQ/v-deo.html
If that one doesn't help, have a look at this one: ua-cam.com/video/Dz_zjKoe6uc/v-deo.html
@@WindsweptRobert Thank you Robert, keep the videos coming, enjoy the rest of the day buddy. :)
Nice demo of the way points on the litchi app Robert. May i ask what has happened to the other channel you had planned?
Thanks, KDN.
Auditing Nonsense asked the same question yesterday (or the day before) and so here is my copied and pasted answer:
_I have to be honest here.
I'm putting it down to the wind as I was out yesterday making another video where there was little wind and I had no gimbal issues at all :)
Have to admit to extra weight in underpants when tried waypoints mission. It’s scary. Have to take curves out if actions required at waypoint
VLOS Perspective is scary! I thought she was headed for the trees!
Hey Robert, really appreciate your honesty. None of us can be innocent of anger and lashing out. Fair play mate. You will always have my support.
Seeing it again has rekindled my interest in giving it a try
Keep up the good work!
It would depend on the height you are flying at. The adjustments in the gimbal can be huge if you are low to the ground compared with 120m in the air.
I'll see if I can get around to that test at some point :)
Hi Robert, love your channel, have you ever tested dronelink? I am about to purchase either dronelink or Litchi, but unsure as to which one is better
Not yet, Craig. I’m not sure that I will though because LITCHI and Maven support all my needs :)
Thanks so much Robert, keep up the amazing work, learnt a lot from your videos
Just bought the Litchi app. Awesome job explaining waypoints. I noticed you switched from Dji app to litchi…if I even have Dji app running, the video goes blank on litchi until resetting mini2/remote, and restarting litchi, and quickly forcing Dji app closed. Any ideas?
Are you using an Android device, Matt?
@@WindsweptRobert I’m using iOS device.
@@mattroth602 Hmm..sorry, Matt, I have not experienced this. I use iPhone 12 Pro Max and all works well with me, but I had to ditch my iPhone 7 plus because apps started not to work on that.
@@WindsweptRobert Not sure what was going on after my initial install but it swaps back-and-forth seamlessly now. Loving this app!
Hi, Robert! Is it possible to combine Active Track with Waypoints? What I would love to do is to have my drone to track me while I walk by following programmed waypoints. Is it possible?
no, this is not possible. The Waypoint Mission feature and the Active Track features work independently.
Pretty nice video. But i am comfused. How can i rec the route, and not just take photos? All the way from 1 to the end, i would like to rec. non stop.
You can! Just hit record on the app, and then start the mission. It'll record the entire mission :)
@@WindsweptRobert Thank you. !!!
If anything goes wrong in the Litchi waypoint run, can you cancel it and take over and fly manually?
Thank you

Aye, just the ND filter. It was ND 32. No post colouring, no LUTs
@@WindsweptRobert Wow, thats incredible, hadn't realised the difference they make to the footage...

May i àsk 2 things i am not shure of with the new litchi app just purchased for ios mini i pad 5
Must you close down the fly app as when i start up the mini 2 drone fly app launches
So i then launch litchi
Second i have no voice notifications in litch with my i pad all seetings are correct
And when i revert back to fly app all sounds ok
Thanks john
Hi John. you can switch between the 2 apps, even when the drone is in the air (I do this in the video). I don't know why your voice notifications are not working, perhaps if you have both apps active, the DJI Fly app takes precedent over the voice warnings?
Dear windswept
After lots of searching about notificaton sounds from litchi on ios mini i pad5 not working
It was found you had to do a factory reset of the i pad mini 5
Every thing works fine now
But its a fair job to get all stuff back on the i pad mini 5
So if it comes up again you can pass it to your veiwers thanks john
Unfortunately, you can't yet load 3rd party apps onto the RC (RM330), so no waypoints are available :(
Oh well, I will just have to bide my time. Thanks for your reply.
I am having a look into something at the moment which might work
Hi, yes likewise, there is the Hyperlapse - way point route, which takes photos so many seconds apart, which can then be converted into an mp4 (or Mov).
Watch the video carefully and I show and explain how to get the curved lines :)
@Windswept Robert could you possibly do a short video showing this please buddy 🙏
Once I've had a look at the focus mode, I'll do what I can :)
@@WindsweptRobert maybe you could incorporate it into that video ? 🤞
Hi when you're flying waypoints does the drone go out of range and start return to home or does it continue the route whatever.
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean about going out of range. The drone goes where you pre-program it to go.
Question: should one recalibrate the gimbal after adding or removing an nd filter - or does that not make a difference?
I don’t:)
Question: can you set gimbal tilt angle in the mission? Or can you control gimbal angle while on mission?
You can pre-set the gimbal to any angle when you are creating the mission. You can adjust the gimbal on the fly during the mission :)
You have to have Google Earth installed on your Macbook. It's a free download. Sorry, I just assumed everyone had Google Earth installed LOL!
@@WindsweptRobert Thanks.
I confirmed that I have Google Earth open and running, but the mission I created in Litchi is still not offering to save to VLM??
Did you purchase the Litchi app, install it on your device (iphone, I presume) and register it?
After the disappointing results with the follow and track modes this video makes the app seem more worthwhile.
What would happen if you planned a number of mission some miles apart and then you accidentally selected mission 2 when you were in the location 1? Would it fly off to attempt to get to the start point of mission 2? It could be disastrous if I planned out a number of missions for a Scotish islands tour and I accidentally selected a mission planned for Barra while I was on Lewis.
Good question, Tony. I almost did that this morning when I was out to do a requested test! Maybe, I'll set up a relatively safe way of testing this, and get out and about to do it ;)
It would fly away till signal was lost then return home. Hopefully.
Cancel current mission by switching into sport mode. Drone stops and hovers. Fly home or load correct mission and fly it.
Also, after loading a mission but before starting it, one can review the route to ensure correct mission was selected.
Hi, can I use this app to fly drone during the day and fly my drone at night recreating the day time flying?
Great question! I’ll test that :)
@@WindsweptRobert good I will watch out for your video

When is this Litchi app going to be available for the Mini 3 Pro?

DJI released the SDK for the mini 2 a year after it was released. More than that, I do not know.
Does Litchi have any flying restrictions?

@@WindsweptRobert How about flying into restricted areas? Do I have to go through the whole “LEGAL” process?

Freewell day pack is my go to choice for filters for the mini 2 :). There should be a link in the description box of the video :)

I vcan even get the app to show where i live
Aye, you can do all of that, Richard. It's fairly straightforward. (I offer one to one tuition lessons at a reasonable price. Email me!)
I'm going to try to remember to include the artist details in my descriptions from now on.
not letting me export as vlm? did they change it?
Did they? I haven't tried using a waypoint mission for a few months. I'll need to take a look again...
Wow, that’s more than I can answer I’m afraid as I know nothing about a go pro. But I’m sure the Litchi app has an info section?
@@WindsweptRobert ohh man yeah.. thats really good info. Thanks.
I don't have the option to save it as VLM. Can anyone tell me why this is? I see the other options.
This has recently changed. I can no longer save as VLM either :(
Hmmm… I only use chrome and it’s not working now for me. I’ll retry.
@@TheFujiwuji There's a link to the Filters I use in the description box :)
Is litchi worth it Robert
I can't make your mind up, I can only show you my experience of using it so far :)
You said you were running the mission from 10 feet when she was starting the mission she looked a lot higher than 10 feet
Aye, it adds in something to that calculation - the height of the terrain or something. Still figuring it out. But actually, the drone looked to be approx 10' high from me when she was at Waypoint 1 and 5. This video was just to show if the mission will run exactly the same every time :)
I don't have an option in Google Earth to fly the virtual mission. Any ideas?
Hmmm..Tom, it's been a while since I messed around with Litchi. If I recall, you have to download a plugin to google earth maybe (it's free) to allow this. But honestly, I can't remember for sure :(
@@WindsweptRobert thank you. you were right, I did not have the plugin.
@@tomzphone It's all working for you now, Tom?
@@WindsweptRobert yes
@@WindsweptRobert I am so not happy about the air 2s and litchi waypoints. It's not smooth at all, it's so bad it's unusable.
Hi there, Do you know if this works with the DJI Mini2SE? I read that it was unsupported but that was as of 2023. Not sure if available now
I've read that the mini 2SE is NOT compatible, but I don't have one to check this.
I wouldn't hold my breath to be honest....The Mini 2SE is quite a few years old now and DJI are constantly moving forwards.
3 mins in and i realized hes speaking english
A mixture of English and Scots actually!
isnt your drone supposed to be in line of sight ?
Who says it’s not?
This a year old and I’m still nervous watching lol
Me too!
ok, i'll pull me 49 bucks out of me pocket again lol... btw, experienced my first loss of signal event...very unnerving, especially given i was flying up and over a headland with water all around lol. good old Sheila, did as she was born to do, RTH, and within a couple minutes landed safely in my palm :) ..... will share a link to my youtube video once it uploads, if you haven't subscribed yet heheheh
Thanks, Numpty. I’ll check it out. I’m sure I am already subscribed to your channel, but if I am not, I will subscribe:). You’ll be interested in a video I am publishing on Friday that will show what happens on a signal loss disconnection during a Litchi Waypoint Mission :)
@@WindsweptRobert look fwd to it. Should change my name to numpty Frank i guess lol, make more sense hehe
@@djmini2numpty141 I just checked - I AM already one of your subscribers. I commented on your Tharwa bridge video. I made it to your first 10 and I might have been one of your first subscribers! You can check your subscriber list and the date when they subbed if you go into the dashboard on UA-cam studio
@@WindsweptRobert then that makes us subsrcibees lol. Vid still churning, takes so long to upload so any tips to make vids quicker to upload, appreciated coz i can't imagine how long it would take to upload a 30 minute video at the rate my 3 minute vid is taking lol
@@djmini2numpty141 I'd have to know details about your hardware, internet connection, software, method of uploading, etc. To be honest, I'm thinking about creating a short course in how best to upload to UA-cam that I might put a price of a couple of quid on it as I often get asked this question and I just don't have the time to answer every query as every minute spent doing that is a minute lost out filming or editing my own vids :) However, if you want a personal answer without waiting for me to create a course, stick a few litres in my tank and message me on Facebook ;) www.buymeacoffee.com/WindsweptRobert
