Back two years later and my jaw still drops. Those tones are so rich and unbelievable. Excellent playing doesn’t hurt. I think the closest a professional middle aged man such as myself will be a CS reissue 59. It’s like buying a really cheap car ha.
The only 'burst' I ever played belonged to some guy in Northern Michigan, maybe back in 1969. My little band was playing some joint in Cheboygan or Acme and a fella walked in with it. I let him play my Strat and he let me handle his Gibson. At the time they weren't several hundred thousand dollars. It played and sounded great though quite beat up. The frets were pretty small wire, but the guitar played like a dream. I'll find one yet, after all, they were made just over on the west side in Kalamazoo. Some garage sale sometime,,,,,
Wow! I grew up very close to Cheboygan and Acme! I still live in Northern MI; Traverse City. I never thought I would hear of a burst being sighted up here in the middle of nowhere.. How cool.
3:42 Man....!!!!!! Loving All of those Hendrixy Double Stops and Your Incredible Buttery Syropy Smoothness....!!!!!! Just Like Musical Guitar Honey to My Ears and into My Soul....!!!!! What a Lovely Musical Experience...!!!!! Thanks So Much Chris :)
My Christmas present to myself was a Les Paul 60s Tribute. Satin finish natural wood top. My first Gibson and first Les Paul. I have always played Super Strats with Floyd Rose bridges and to transition to a STP Tune-a-Matic is quite the system shock. But I love it.
@@christopher-miles joe bonamassa owns 40+ bursts and tours at least all of them at some point. plays all of them regularly. its absurd to think no one will ever make music with a burst when there are multiple musicians that tour and record with them.
@@forzadillon08 I’m going off very recent interviews and the recent nerdville. He very rarely gets rid of guitars. Especially 59s. I actually don’t think he ever gets rid of them.
Many people through the years have bitched and complained that they are so far overpriced and they don’t sound any better than new ones. That only rich guys can afford them now and no one is taking them out to play. Well, here’s what your average joe such as me says. It’s not about the tone, the playability, even the look in my opinion. It’s about a pinnacle of American craftsmanship at its finest. No one can deny the level of quality. No one can deny the dedication to perfection of the shop in this period. And by god, not many can ever hold a guitar and say, I have one of the best pieces of mahogany ever produced on earth. The real treasure is having an AMERICAN masterpiece, a coveted instrument made to stand the test of time for generations...... forever.....
Boy that JMP is in desperate need of a complete filter caps change, tubes too. Other than that some great stories and noodling on the venerable 59 flametop!
A 59’ LP or basically any other vintage guitars are super cool but I truly don’t believe in paying a crazy amount of money for one. I mean maybe if I were a SUPER rich collector, maybe but it’s to me, they’re not worth going out of your way to get. New guitars today are built very well and sound just the same or better.
I' m always amazed and shocked how many adult guys are fooled by a myth. Go and play a good custom shop burst and believe me you will not hear a noteworthy difference. The prize just makes the difference. This guitar was not a big success so they manufactured just around 1600 pieces between 58-60 and they stopped it and came forward with the SG instead. Not sure if the goldtops are including.
ECG…..class acts right across the board. Bought my ‘62 Fender VI from these guys, and God willing, hopefully someday a “Burst”. Awesome job on the content guys…..👊.
I’m pretty sure that Flamin’ Harry (McGonigal) was the name of the/one previous owner, who actually named said burst “Alberta”. But who cares - that was a killer guitar!!! And also the first burst I ever played (about 12 years ago at ECG). I believe it was an early 1960.
Yeah. All you need OR, RATHER, all you're lacking is, some great lyrics, a great song and a great singer with a unique, memorable voice. So close. Just missed it by the distance between Pluto & the Sun squared.
It’s not just hype. There is definitely something going on with the tone of an original burst that cannot be replicated using modern parts and manufacturing. I can see why people may think it’s just hype. So much in the guitar world is just that. Not these.
As a dreamer, if I had the opportunity to play on this rig, on the bridge pickup, hit the biggest 1st position A chord or D chord and just let it ring out and feedback for 30 seconds.
God Dammmmm, Michael Lemmo or Mark for that matter never did any of Norm’s Rare Guitars any justice compared to this guy!!! the sound he gets out of these machines is just exceptional!!!! superb!!!!
I grew up using MK2 super lead Marshall's like this in the 70s....they sounded way way better than this back then...seems like they don't age well. No fuzziness or grittyness...just big fat smooth sustain and drive....
I get the mystique & the fact there was only 1700 odd made ('58-'60), but they sound almost identical to modern version. I can't justify the price difference.
Get Jeff Beck to play these beauties... he's really the only player besides slash who can teach the dynamics of a LP. A little song callled 'because we ended as lovers' is my point. That would a historical episode. Dare you to pick up the phone and ask if he'd make our guitar dreams come true. AVL
On the album, Jeff recorded Because We Ended as Lovers on a Telecaster with Humbuckers. He has apparently said that despite the Les paul on the cover, the whole album was Strat and Humbucker Tele.

Nah go look at the video that gibson did with Mark and Rick Nielsen. Rick has the best looking les paul I've ever seen in my entire life. The most figured top ever.
Once he flipped to the bridge pickup, the gates of heaven slowly swung open and that sweet, sweet tone became a revelation.
yep. That's the "money shot".

Really great player, and the RIGHT amp. No pedals, just pure goodness.

That is the best guitar tone I've ever heard in my live. Very well done. Jeez...
Was going to type the same thing. Incredible.
Listen to the clarity of the neck pickup. Modern pickup winders seem to find it hard to replicate that clarity.
Its really good the way you miced your demos, you really capture heart and soul the amp in the room.
No ones sold more LPs than old recordings of Jimmy playing a tele lol
Lots of Led Zeppelin records are actually the Les Paul. T tops pickups are very bright sounding.
Jimmy played both in the early days.
I think Slash sold more one of these days
Rippin and drippin!!! Man that thing is sweet!! Well done

Wow that guy plays well. That tone is perfect as well, I think.
It’s so weird to think that no more songs will be written on that beautiful instrument because it’s too expensive to be used like than anymore.
Not true. Look at "Greeny" that Kirk from Metallica plays. He still plays that guitar everyday and ever still tour's with it

Incredibly gorgeous Burst and spectacular playing!
Most if not all LZ studio work was on a Telecaster, the LP was shown because it`s more photogenic.
Holy Jesus. That tone! Beautiful guitar. That does rips! I have to try to approximate that tone. Wow

Got to love the sound of a good LP

Love the squeal of those unpotted PAFs
Those 2 pair beautifully! And that dude rips on guitar!! Wow! Any Lefty Bursts?

Burst
easy decision 🤔

Eric Clapton Bluesbreaker, first great sound with Marshall amp / les paul.

very well done proper demo
nice
Sweet. I got a 75 mk2 with a 74 creamback cab.

I'm sure Joe Bonamassa will be enquiring about this guitar! Lol. Beautiful flame top and what a sound!
How could anything made by man sound that good?
I’ve been a Fender guy all my life, but this makes me wonder if anyone really needs single coils.
Sic burst and sic playing
Pure Rockandroll!
Were 50s/60s guitars also treated as treasure on the previous decades (80s/90s/00s)? When did it boom out??
The best Les Paul / Marshall tone I’ve ever heard
Early on, Billy Gibbons used his '59 with Marshalls. Listen to the early ZZ Top. That's the sound.
