I agree with that. I gigged an Epiphone V around 20 years ago and the only thing stock left of it was the basic husk. I ended up loving the guitar but as it came, it sure wasn't that great. Should probably get this one ordered before it is gone. They last a couple of months when released and then they are GONE....
I bought and Epi LP as a broken headstock, I do custom wood just wanted to repair one and it was quite affordable, the headstock was not broken, just finish cracks, the axevis amazing, I've owed Gibson's as well, would not trade this for any of them, Epi has their shit together, great axes indeed, maybe a Lazarus in my future..who knows, if your on the fence, just pull the trigger...
The best Les Paul model guitars that were made by Epiphone using the right woods were the Japanese Elite and Elitist series. I think that they were made from 2003 to 2009 or so. They were as good as an American made Gibson Les Paul Standard.
Agreed, I played one of them for years.... the stupidest thing I ever did was sell it to a kid that couldn't afford a new guitar (but I was feeling sorry for the little dude)
I see a lot of JB hate in here. Arrogance? Maybe. But I think people just like to hate on him. So say you were gifted his original Lazerus. Would you play it? gig with it? Worry about it not getting stolen? Worry you'd devalue it just breathing near it? Realistically what the hell would you even do with the original besides brag about it? It feels like people need this guy and his epiphones to hate on with jealousy.
I mean Kirk Hammett takes the '59 that used to belong to Peter Green out on tour. Better that than those glorious instruments setting around collecting dust.
Yeah, JB has a lot of haters, but I don't think he's lost any sleep over it! The guy worked his butt off since he was a little kid, and has spent more hours practicing than 99% of the people who disrespect him. He gives back to all kinds of charities to help out of work musicians, and helps with instruments for kids who can't afford them. When these haters start putting in 10% of what Joe does when he gives back, maybe, just maybe they are worth the time to listen to. Having met Joe twice, he couldn't have been nicer. Signed my Goldtop, and chatted about some of his songs. I got a kick out of his response when I asked if he would ever play PRISONER live.. He exclaimed "Are you kidding me? I could hardly hit the notes for the recording!) Big smile. Anyway, Joe is as open as anyone. Really excited about music and guitars.. The geek is real...
I know a lot of Les Paul enthusiasts like a dark fretboard and I do as well. But I have seen plenty of more "woody" brown looking fretboard boards that are Indian rosewood (laurel) that are just as beautiful to me and sort of compliment the guitar as an accent rather than the "contrast" of the dark rosewood or ebony fretboards.
Is it me or this guitar doesn't look anything like the other one? The Gibson is beautiful, the Epiphone is dull looking. It's a shame because I have seen a lot of beautiful tops on epiphone's I have one. I would want this guitar but it doesn't look like the other Gibson.
The Lazarus looks very much alive to me. Is it the Gibson version? no man lol. But who cares, not everyone has thousands of dollars to put down on a guitar, to each his own. If you have the cash, buy the Gibson. If not at $899 there are a lot of good things you can say about the Epiphone and it would be hard to beat at that price. I personally own the JB Epiphone 3 pickup Black Beauty Epiphone and I can say it's worth every penny I put into it. It plays and sounds great! I am very particular about pups and for some strange reason they sounded great stock, it just worked for me which I was very surprised. On most of my guitars, I do change the pups if either too bright or just doesn't sound right to me. Even for the Lazarus Epi, if the burst buckers aren't you, change them, you are still ahead of the game to make it your own. Not all guitars are great out of the box, so make the changes. Paper doesn't tell us anything, we need to play our guitars. I like what JB is doing, fan or not he has his input in his signature guitars that come out, and to get it into our hands, that's the whole idea, we keep Rockin.
May be gibson wont allow nitro appear on epiphone, for somebody the finish is more important than the sound. If epi is allow to use nitro, gibson will lose lots of customer
A nitro finish would blow the price point of this guitar completely out of the sweet spot. It’s one of the main distinctions between an Epi and a Gibson. You aren’t getting a nitro finished LP at this price point now, and you never will.
@@Michaelgracon even if that happen, who will responsible for the quaity. if gibson does, i am out. and it they allow epiphone to make that line with the same quality, it just like they are pee in their foot . we all know that elite line is way more better probably than a highest gibson. anyway, let wish that happenned
@@brentwoods4802 no it is not the nitro that differentiates an epiphone from a gibson. this year's blue tommy thayer signature epiphone has a nitro finish, for example. what will differentiate gibson from an epiphone will be the bridge (tune o matic) and the stop bar which will be in aluminum at gibson unlike epiphone in zinc or other low-end alloy. microphones which are of lower quality and wiring (capacitor, potentiometers) the mechanics also epiphone often put the grover ... the woods and the quality of the wood. an epiphone does not have the same wood as a gibson it is obvious. the stainless steel frets .... the nitro varnish and then the labor and the know-how which is therefore more expensive in the United States. all these elements explain the higher price of a gibson.

Why does the Gibson have a burst and the epiphone has no burst?
$
Sadly, at the moment, all I could afford is the spaghetti and meatballs……barely
I'm just take those aspicey meatballs ! Burn the Gibson ,gimme the Epiphone, they play better.
Change your diet to Raman noodles & maybe you can afford the repayments.
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes lol - I own a Gibson and an Epiphone LP and the Epiphone plays nothing like the Gibson
That entrance, just wow
EPIC!
Fretboard on the epi looks like it needs to be oiled, or it's just really bright.
Signature gtr in Epiphone, Ok, Is the Lazarus in Gibson?
Bursts just fall into his lap....its raining bursts... halajula
Sold American ! finally on order. The story (& electronics) really sell it. Lazarus has got everything I need, except the crippling price tag
I dig the guitar and story.
'06 Epi LP Std Plus so i'm set.
Thought the same thing. The epi version looks completely different and joe said in the vid „it has a different neck“. Its just another les paul guitar
Gloss vs satin.
love the valvestate amp under dave's bench
Joe is great, what a cool story.
Damn Joe!!
No Before & After pictures? Would have been really cool if Historic makeovers would have videotaped the whole procedure From start to finish
Great job Joe
I am disappointed with the satin finish. I would have preferred a nitro which over time cracks and relic.
May be gibson wont allow nitro appear on epiphone, for somebody the finish is more important than the sound. If epi is allow to use nitro, gibson will lose lots of customer
@@alicegay4286 I wish they would reissue the Elite/Elitist guitar line.
Beautiful guitar. Joe has more guitars than the army has teeth.
gorgeous
I can’t do it without a nitro finish. I don’t care about a Gibson logo, but the poly finish is a dealbreaker.
I love Joes playing & personality - I started out owning vintage Gibson les Paul’s & 335 - sold them all to buy a house -replaced with Harley Benton’s - they sound & play identical … or better … don’t miss my Gibson’s at all …just throwing money away on Gibson & Epiphone …
Well I am stuck with Bonamassa's M5 in the beginning, that teaches me surely he is great.
Luthier says 'Your a lucky guy Joe'. Luck has nothing to do with it, hard work does. I may backorder one of these.
Where do we sign up for the eat good Italian food and talk about guitars with Joe experience?
I have the Epiphone ‘59 on back order but my swap it out for this as the neck is a bit smaller.
Oh man, for a second I thought the burst *was* the Epiphone. Then they showed the actual Epiphone and 👎🏻 it’s not even close.
Thats how it is, epi shouldnt exist today imo considering the options in that proce range. Vintage, LTD, Larry Carlton and so on. I got rid of two esp:s and a gibson LP studio because a 160eur HB was goof enough to replace them. Had an epi explorer and LP, both lesser instruments than the HB. Now searching for an LTD evertune, if i wanted a gibson/epi type guitar id get a gibson goldtop tribute or natural wood gibson explorer and change the pickguard.
I agree. Joe is annoying on top of it.
Does that Gibson GA-79 RVT come with it ??
you need to release the epiphone les paul standard 50s in the lemon burst finish.
That Epiphone is crying out for some oil on that fretboard.
What an anticlimax when he switched guitars.
All of my Epis have had a great need for some oil on the fretboards. Not a deal breaker!
Super guitar !!!
Joe, already have a LP but it did inspire me to make a pot of spaghetti & meatballs
Joe is as lovable as is his guitar collection.....i'd like to "stumble" across a burst too.......:-=
Pulled up in the m5 comp too
“If it looks like a duck and it acts like a duck it’s a 59 Les Paul”! You whaty now Joe?! 😝🤣🤣🤣
When a m5 is cheaper than your guitar… :)
Yet ANOTHER signature guitar for the greedy bastard of the blues!!
Just wanted to say... David's workbench is WAAAAY too clean. ;-) David is THE MAN. ☮♥🌮
So Joe finally got into cars as well..
Nice BMW M
