    It great that Epiphone are dipping their toes into "custom shop" finishes, and with the success of this lineup I hope the Epi custom shop takes it to the next level

    This is in the "Inspired by Gibson" line so it's not meant to be a repro. If it was, it would be in the Gibson line and cost $6K. $900 plus a hard case is pretty good. The new higher end Epiphones are really good. You won't mistake it for a '59 though.

      I agree with that. I gigged an Epiphone V around 20 years ago and the only thing stock left of it was the basic husk. I ended up loving the guitar but as it came, it sure wasn't that great. All the Epiphone's today seem to be light years ahead of what they were making previously. There are exceptions though. The Epiphone Elite series from the early 2000's (Made in Japan) are killer guitars.

      @@MojoMedicineMan I'm looking at my 14° Epiphone my 17° Gibson and a picture of the Epi "Lazarus" and it looks like 17° but it's pretty close. 14 is better for tuning stability... the high angle from the nut sideways and downwards is why Gibsons often go out of tune. Needs nut lube and even making the slots a little wider in the back so the strings don't snag on corners. For poor people take a pencil and colour in the slot, nut lube is graphite based. I do that on mine. Wound upwards on the spool.

    I wonder if we will get a Joe B signature les paul based om the vintage les Paul that was found in a closet in England. It was electronically dead. The pafs were shot and it needed a refrett . Joe had it brought back life and is playing it live now . He had the frets done and a friend Gave him a set of vintage Pafs for it . I watched a rig rundown video and Joe was playing that les paul and it sounded fantastic. Very fat but also very clear and it had a killer bottom end . Chance of a signature version in the couple of years are probably quite high considering the cool backstory .

Too many snobs, but that's the way people are. I have 2 Gibson Lps (a 75 Deluxe and a 79 Custom) and 2 high end Epi Lps (an 09 59th Anniversary and the JB Black Beauty Custom) and I love them all. The best Les Paul model guitars that were made by Epiphone using the right woods were the Japanese Elite and Elitist series. I think that they were made from 2003 to 2009 or so. They were as good as an American made Gibson Les Paul Standard.

    I see a lot of JB hate in here. Arrogance? Maybe. But I think people just like to hate on him. So say you were gifted his original Lazerus. Would you play it? gig with it? Worry about it not getting stolen? Worry you'd devalue it just breathing near it? Realistically what the hell would you even do with the original besides brag about it? It feels like people need this guy and his epiphones to hate on with jealousy.

    • @mulemusic
      @mulemusic 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, JB has a lot of haters, but I don't think he's lost any sleep over it! The guy worked his butt off since he was a little kid, and has spent more hours practicing than 99% of the people who disrespect him. He gives back to all kinds of charities to help out of work musicians, and helps with instruments for kids who can't afford them. When these haters start putting in 10% of what Joe does when he gives back, maybe, just maybe they are worth the time to listen to. Having met Joe twice, he couldn't have been nicer. Signed my Goldtop, and chatted about some of his songs. I got a kick out of his response when I asked if he would ever play PRISONER live.. He exclaimed "Are you kidding me? I could hardly hit the notes for the recording!) Big smile. Anyway, Joe is as open as anyone. Really excited about music and guitars.. The geek is real...

    I know a lot of Les Paul enthusiasts like a dark fretboard and I do as well. But I have seen plenty of more "woody" brown looking fretboard boards that are Indian rosewood (laurel) that are just as beautiful to me and sort of compliment the guitar as an accent rather than the "contrast" of the dark rosewood or ebony fretboards.

    The Lazarus looks very much alive to me. Is it the Gibson version? no man lol. But who cares, not everyone has thousands of dollars to put down on a guitar, to each his own. If you have the cash, buy the Gibson. If not at $899 there are a lot of good things you can say about the Epiphone and it would be hard to beat at that price. I personally own the JB Epiphone 3 pickup Black Beauty Epiphone and I can say it's worth every penny I put into it. It plays and sounds great! I am very particular about pups and for some strange reason they sounded great stock, it just worked for me which I was very surprised. On most of my guitars, I do change the pups if either too bright or just doesn't sound right to me. Even for the Lazarus Epi, if the burst buckers aren't you, change them, you are still ahead of the game to make it your own. Not all guitars are great out of the box, so make the changes. Paper doesn't tell us anything, we need to play our guitars. I like what JB is doing, fan or not he has his input in his signature guitars that come out, and to get it into our hands, that's the whole idea, we keep Rockin.

    • @quoimagueule628
      @quoimagueule628 3 роки тому

      @@brentwoods4802 no it is not the nitro that differentiates an epiphone from a gibson. this year's blue tommy thayer signature epiphone has a nitro finish, for example. what will differentiate gibson from an epiphone will be the bridge (tune o matic) and the stop bar which will be in aluminum at gibson unlike epiphone in zinc or other low-end alloy. microphones which are of lower quality and wiring (capacitor, potentiometers) the mechanics also epiphone often put the grover ... the woods and the quality of the wood. an epiphone does not have the same wood as a gibson it is obvious. the stainless steel frets .... the nitro varnish and then the labor and the know-how which is therefore more expensive in the United States. all these elements explain the higher price of a gibson.

I got rid of two esp:s and a gibson LP studio because a 160eur HB was goof enough to replace them. Had an epi explorer and LP, both lesser instruments than the HB. Now searching for an LTD evertune, if i wanted a gibson/epi type guitar id get a gibson goldtop tribute or natural wood gibson explorer and change the pickguard.
