    I purchased a Sunlighten sauna for home use. Less than the cost of one vacay and I’ve used it for 7 years.

    He doesn't like infrared saunas but had not one actual tangible reason why we shouldn't use them. Why? I use a far infrared sauna followed by a cold shower just before bed almost every day and cannot believe how well it detoxes and how well I sleep afterwards. It's a quiet time for me, almost a meditative time. Other nights if I'm not in the mood to meditate, I watch UA-cam videos and use it just to unwind. I've had it about 3 years and love it.

    I’m immunocompromised & have been using a Steam sauna ever since Covid. My sauna gets up to 140° and I do 20 minutes 3-4x’s a week, and it gets my body temp up to 102°. I have not caught Covid yet, and I go food shopping, but worst yet I go to chemo lab for treatment once a week. Have not caught Covid.

    It was amazing to hear about the Finnish sauna culture in the US! You and Glenn are doing a great job. There are millions of saunas here in Finland, nowadays even in most apartments. My apartments electric sauna is rather good, but the wood-fired saunas are the best. The best sauna I’ve ever been in was in the middle of Lapland, next to a small pond. Magical!

    Saunas in Finland are commonly under the basement of all city suburban houses. The saunas are at lake cabins for the holidays. They also cook in sauna for breakfast etc. Very Important is the use of birch trees which you beat your skin with for circulation and nobody seems to mention. My mother is from Finland. We visited Finland when I was a little girl and I went in sauna with whole family- grandparents Uncle Aunty and mother. We went in with both male and female. There is no separation as all natural. Pronounce Sauna like Sowna.

    Was using the sauna in the gym and then cold shower it made me feel so good. Then the lockdown came. So I made my own and put a big rain shower head out in the garden. Can honestly say if you can make your own it will be the best thing you ever done.. Me and my wife absolutely love it.. Its such a routine now couldn't live without it especially tradition Sunday sauna. Sauna freezing shower then Sunday dinner and chill. Love it

      Yep, fell in love with the outdoor sauna and dip in the cold pond in Estonia two years ago, and when I came home started doing the sauna and cold shower after. Also working to do more on the Wim Hof breathing and cold exposure method. If you haven't heard of that, check it out it might be of interest.

    I was in Estonia for a month at a retreat, and we had sauna almost nightly, well, it was available but you didn't have to go every night. It was coed and we were nude, but again it was at a retreat environment. I thought it was awesome, and we could go out and jump into the cold pond next to the sauna in between 20 or so minute sessions. It was amazing, slept like a baby!

It would be great if you could do a video on various types of infrared sauna, as there are so many different aspects to take into consideration, such as near infrared vs long infrared, EMF, etc. I m confused, so I love to hear more on this topic. Thanks so much!

    Another reason why one goes to sauna naked, is that everyone are equal there. You leave your social status, other differences and lack of transparency behind as you enter a Finnish sauna. There are two unwritten rules about being in sauna. No farting and no politics.

If space and money are not a problem, are the physiological benefits of infaired sauna the same as the classic sauna according to you? Where is the video on the sauna build-up mentioned at the 2m mark?
    Regarding the rubber-band technique of cycling continuously between between the sauna and an ice-cold cool-down, any tips on how to do the cold-side of the equation? For ex. Scott McGee converts a Frigidaire FFFC15M4TW freezer-chest for doing ice-baths.. but what about using an ice-machine?
    Regarding the 51m mark with SaunaTimes /Steve Friedrich , what is the smallest 1-person saunas that can safely be built? For example, Red Poppy Ranch has a video building a small one, but I'd like to go smaller.. converting my existing 3ft x 3ft x 7ft wooden INFRARED (140F) garage sauna (Radiant Health E-1H), to a traditional/dry heat sauna (like that of scandiamfg/Ari Whitten/Finnleo) that can reach standard sauna *HOT* temperatures (180F)! My infrared takes *FOREVER* to heat-up in the winter, so to get true 180F and fast, I was thinking of adding NIR heat lamps (therabulb/rubylux), or using a small propane furnace. For example, the $800 Propex 2800 can deliver 9500 BTU/hr, however, I'm concerned that due to the small space, the furnace won't be able to push too much hot air into such a confined space ( according to a mspplumbingheatingair article, the furnace can't see too much negative flue/backpressure). Unfortunately, even if I have adequate venting, it seems gas heaters (Kuuma) for saunas are meant for spaces much larger than 63 cu ft. "Ventless" propane heaters would quickly exhaust the oxygen, and fill the tiny space with CO and humidity/mold.. while direct-vent furnaces that use natural/propane gas can reach 30000 BTU/hr! Any thoughts if that could be made to work for this tiny sauna?
    Great interview, now I need to watch Steam of Life (Miesten vuoro)! In addition to Archimedes Banyas in San Francisco, I believe saunas (hot springs) in Japan, are also naked-coed.

    • @bennguyen1313
      @bennguyen1313 3 роки тому

      BTW, any thoughts on the idea that switching to cold-exposure may be blunting some of the positive signaling (heat-shock-proteins) of the sauna? Similar, I suppose to taking antioxidants around the time of a workout - see Sigma Nutrition podcast #330 with Eric Trexler.
      Regarding heat-shock-proteins, Rick Johnson suggests if the kidneys are retaining more salt than normal, due to inflammation (possibly an autoimmune response attacking Heat-Shock-Proteins that normally fix mis-folded proteins), this will result in more salt in the blood, and cause glucose/dextrose to get converted into fructose! He recommends to keep serum osmolality low, by staying hydrated, minimizing high purine/dna foods (ex. anchiovies).. and possibly taking fructokinase inhibitor drugs that may prevent fructose conversion (via aldoreductase enzyme).

      @@bennguyen1313 Drink water w electrolytes and high mineral content. Add flaky salt to water -pink Himalayan is good. Rest after . Sometimes if you have residual bacterial infection you can get heat shock syndrome. Heat is great for burning off viral conditions but might unmask bacterial infections I believe.

Just wanted to say that the closing of the building you mentioned is possibly a opportunity for you. On my yoga studio decided to take out their sauna, they were happy to let me in the week before demolition for free to take what I wanted.
