    To fill driveway cracks, I like a product that you can gun into the cracks. I've used many products over the years and have good luck with Henry products. This driveway crack filler is easy to use. It can be applied in 50 degrees or warmer and only takes 24 hours to cure.
    You can fill cracks up to 1/2" wide and 1" deep. If the hole is deeper, just fill with sand to about an inch.
    You don't want rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours.

    If you don't mind a gray color finish, just use Loctite PL Max Premium. It takes a day to dry but it will end up as hard as a rock and never come off again as long as you clean the surface properly.

    If you want to permanently repair a crack in asphalt, you cannot use this method. Any product that is brown and is cold poured is water based (water soluble) and will wash away in 6 months. They are a complete waste of money. This is why latex sealers fail. The only thing that will work is a hot tar product. You can buy tar in block form at most hardware stores. You break off a chunk and heat it to 350-400°. I use a coffee can, hot stove plate, and a torch. Once you melt the tar, you can pour and spread into cracks. This will thermally bond to the existing asphalt and is not water soluble. It will never go away. All of the cold, brown products are little more than latex paint that will fail. What do they use on the street to repair cracks? Hot asphalt. You can do the same.

    Is there a zero sum gain point at which the number to cracks to be filled is greater than tear-out replacement, making the crack filling not worth the effort?

    You mentioned using sand as a filler for deep asphalt cracks and hen using the flexible sealant on top. I like this approach but can polymeric sand be used instead of regular sand? Would polymeric be a better option since it has glue like properties once activated? Then of course use the flexible caulk sealant on top of it to finish it off.... thoughts?

    Excellent demo. Does the filler settle down (sink in) after 24 hours and you’d have to reseal it?

    I have an old driveway with 3 layers of asphalt. The top layer has developed cracks, some dents, etc. I had started watching the videos, trying things out, etc. My question is this: when I had cleaned out all the cracks of dirt and starting using the leaf blower to clean it out, I had areas of my asphalt that simply lift up in the air like waves in the ocean. The sections lifting up are as big as 2-3 feet long. The asphalt itself looks "normal" -- you wouldnt know that there is a problem. Do I remove these flying sections, or do I simply fix the edges to make it stick to the driveway? I am concerned that "one thing will lead to another". Which product do i use? If I was to remove the upper asphalt layer #3, I am not sure that the depression remaining is deep enough to be filled in with the patching material. Thank you.

    When is it 2 many cracks to repair? My driveway has quite a few and some spider webbing. Many of the local guys say it isn't worth their time to do.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel

      Hi, depending on how big the cracks are, you can use a filler sealer and go over the whole driveway. It will fill many small cracks.

      @@FIXITHomeImprovementChannel well that is what I am going to do/did. The biggest cracks are 1/2 inch. I did 1/3 of it before the mosquitos ate me alive. Tomorrow I will finish it. IT does go a long way on simple cracks. The deep ones near the apron soak up a lot of the fluid but still I'll buy 1 more jug and it should fill the rest. THANK YOU for your response.

    Can you advise if this crack fill will permanently damage your vehicle tires? A company did these crack fills this morning and all the tar, gunk is now in my tire tread.I have been to a car wash and have tried to remove it with tools but can't get it all out. Also if it rains within 8 hours of installing this crack fill what does that mean for all the work done to fill the cracks? Thank you in advance.

      Mentha Manning Hi, I don't know about crack filler on tires, I will call the rep from Henry.
      For rain after using a crack filler, it depends on the products. Most have to cure before you get them wet. I would think 8 hours is long enough, but I will ask that question too.

    • @menthamanning4364

      Mentha Manning Hi, my rep just got back to me. The crack filler won't hurt the tires. You can remove it with a citrus based cleaner. The crack filler takes 24 hours to fully cure against water. If any washed out, just allow it to dry a couple days and re-apply any low spots.

    The crack filler is a darker shade than the driveway. Is it going to fade to match the driveway? I don't want my driveway with two different colors.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  8 років тому +1

      Hi, it will dry close to the color. I would fill the cracks and then use a topcoat over the whole driveway to have a uniform finish.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, this one is Henry Elastomeric, but BlackJack, Red Devil and Sakrete make good crack sealers. You can get filler in a jug that you can pour or filler in a caulk tube.

    • @jonhawkins2374
      @jonhawkins2374 4 роки тому

      @@FIXITHomeImprovementChannel thanks I heard the stuff in the jug doesn't work and is hard to get out tho...

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, for small hairline cracks or very shallow cracks, the pourable filler in a jug does a good job and it's easy to apply. For deeper and wider cracks, the caulk is better. For deep cracks, fill the crack with backer rod or sand to about 1/4 inch or so from the surface.
