  • One of the mistakes I made when I chose my undergraduate degree was not considering moving for university.
Without much reflection I decided it was easiest just to stay put at home and go to the closest university.
And that's completely fine as a decision, if that's what you decide to do.
But the mistake I made was not at least CONSIDERING moving to a different city, or even elsewhere in my own city, to take up university studies.
Because there are SO MANY awesome universities in Australia offering an incredible diversity of courses.
So it's always worth considering ALL the options, right?
But moving away is be a BIG decision, so how do you break it down to make sure you get it right? Getting it wrong could cost a lot of money and time and stress... and nobody wants that!
In this video, I'll get into details about how to decide whether or not to moving away for university might be the right decision for YOU based on YOUR life and YOUR preferences.
And while we chat, I'll show you around the pretty little Nth Queensland town of Mackay.

I’m happy to answer this but the obvious caveat is that what I like, and my choices, aren’t what might suit others.
Right now Brisbane is my “favourite” student city in Australia. That’s because of the climate, dynamism and size of the city (it’s big enough, but not TOO big) and general livability. It is also home to 3 excellent main-campus universities, plus other good regional unis nearby, like USC on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Brisbane will host the Olympics in 2032 so will be a city on the rise for the next decade as those preparations advance. But for now it is an affordable place with tonnes of opportunities.
MY second choice is Perth. I love the lifestyle in Perth! People are more relaxed (I find) than in the eastern states. The climate is generally great and there’s a good active, outdoors way of life.
Perth is more affordable than the major eastern cities and is home to excellent universities.
If you’re looking to explore some of Australia during your studies, Perth and Brisbane both make great home bases: Brisbane for the Sunshine Coast, Nth NSW and Far North Queensland. Perth is the starting point for epic travel to both SW WA and up the coast to the Kimberleys.
I won’t pick a third city. All the other cities have their pluses and minuses (as do Brisbane and Perth too) so it’s really about personal preference.

You’ll need to do some initial research yourself. Then if you’ve got specific questions I’m happy to help.
