I'm inheriting my dad's shopsmith Mark v that he's barely used in the last 46 years. I've never seen him use it growing up. Thanks for this video so I can see all the cool things it can do since I have limited space to get separate pieces of equipment.
When I was a lot younger and my father-in-law was alive, I really, really wanted a Shopsmith. Fortunately he talked me out of it. Looking back, I’m glad I took his advise. He was a smart man and a really great woodworker. Learned a lot from him but he died before I could learn everything he wanted to teach me. Man, I miss him everyday.
Why, fortunately? They're good machines. And can be purchased cheaply on Facebook marketplace. Mine does everything it's advertised to do and does it well.
My dad gave me his 1950's shopsmith 40 years ago, the motor bearings went out and the new motor won't be here until Monday. I'm so bummed. Next weekend I will be making shavings. Greg
Just inherited one of these, works great but needs a little TLC as there's sawdust older than I am jammed up in Avery sliding surface. Gonna print organization for it on the wall.
While I have not used a shopsmith, I had a TRITON workcentre which could be turned into drop saw, a table saw and a router table. Changing over takes time and effort. Unless one is short of space, I think having a few dedicated machines plus a multi-purpose machine like the 510 which provides different functionality would be ideal.
I bet its hard to find a used one with all the extra parts im seeing here?? Thats alot of parts an excessorues to keep up with an they all work properly ? I would need a whole extra wall to hang everything i need to convert over at eye sight level !!!! But man oh man this thing looks hella fun to use!!!

I ❤ my Shopsmith. Thank you for sharing this.
You still got it! The 510 is a fantastic machine, looking forward more content on this one.

Fine… I’ll buy one
Such a cool machine. I wonder why they fell out of popularity?
hobbyist toy for children, no precision, no repeatability in the manufacture of parts
@@andrewsv9729 For children?
I’m about to buy one for $50
Found one for sale for 400, bandsaw belt sander lathe and all. Trying to convince my wife to let me buy it.
Now that is a waste of time
Making one cut that takes 10 seconds appears to take 10 minutes... if you remember where you put it last
