Born in Bastrop (1946), raised in Monroe. Left at age 18 to join the Marine Corps (1965). Was away for many years. Came back to Monroe in 1974. worked for Monroe P.D. for 5 years before moving back to Calif.. I still come "home" twice a year to see family and resupply the larder with good Southern foods. I liked your report. I wish I could have taken that ride with you. I know lots about those old cemeteries and building. I was raised on the southside of Monroe (Vernon St. ) . What you called Swanson Center was the Louisiana Training Institute, aka L.T.I. or known Locally as "Little Thieves incorporated"! I could tell you some stories about all those old places.
"Let's go to West Monroe". omg Thank youuu! ❤I was born and raised in Cali but growing up in the 70's me, my brother and my sister spent our summers in West Monroe with gramdma. Priceless childhood memories. She lived on 813 Coleman Ave and owned a cafe called "Casserina's". You didn't travel far enough west to see the area (unfortunately her place was torn down some years ago) but it's so awesome to see Coleman Ave again. I'm sure you remember there was a Piggly Wiggly right there off the bridge! 😁
I'm considering moving to Monroe Louisiana. And there's a house on joe white road that I want to buy. Is that a good and safe area? the house is on the bayou.
We're pretty close to that area ourselves. I'd say except for a few bayou critters here and there you shouldn't have any trouble. Where are you living now?
The Babes and I have several small businesses in the area. We do consulting, coaching, resume building... a little bit of everything. We were just on Bon Aire the other day!
Nice... I went to NLU in 1984, a bunch of us used to go to the Waffle house on 165 North of I-20 a few nights a week, also used to drive on Desiard St to get to W Monroe to shop at the only supermarket that were opened on Sundays.
I must admit, I have a personal attachment to these areas. It's where I grew up. It's filled with cherished memories and wonderful people. It's Home Sweet Home--No negativity intended. But that's a good idea! In an upcoming video, we'll be sure to explore more of the city. So be sure to check back. Thank you for watching! --T.

I’m driving through Monroe right now 😅
I'm from the West coast, I drove to Monroe to visit a friend of mine. I'll tell you what it's definitely different.. first time being out East.
If yeah, would have drove further down, DeSiard by the Chevron and the library. YA'LL would have saw the most beautiful part of the bayou.❤
