  • This video was going to be called "Late Night Early Morning on Carlisle Station" but the video would have been to long and probably boring, so this video shows in detail the goings on at this station when its empty of people.

    Only 3 1/2 years late in viewing this video but well worth the wait.So much atmosphere and great '''sounds".A glass (or two!)of Scotland's finest made this a superb and very enjoyable experience.Cheers Mike for yet another Cracker.

    I do enjoy going through your back catalogue Mike. I have also spent a few nights at stations though generally as a teenager. Carlisle was always a favourite with the mail trains and the sleepers. Watching this has given me the bug to start again!

      Has it, well nothing wrong with that mate. when I collected all that stock we had in the 80s I loved that part of the hobby at lot and I cleared all the stock that was running doing lots of all-nights around the country and going round depots and carriage sidings Julian. I just loved collecting stock in them days. Cheers Mike.

    I don’t know how much longer the 86’s will continue but I love the sound of them . Every day is a bonus .

      I feel the same about the starting up sound but I do remember article I read saying Freightliner have long term plans for them Kenneth.

    I was on a Midland Day ranger during the Falklands Conflict, and fell asleep (like you do lol). Next thing I know I wake up just as the signs for Crewe were passing the windows of my Mk1 compartment coach. Unfortunately the signs were going by quicker and quicker...next stop Carlisle. I arrive in Carlisle well past midnight and had to wait until gone 6 the next morning for a train back to the midlands. Eventually got home at midday. My mum (R.I.P. mum) didn't even realise I had been out...thought I was having a lie in....ffs. Great memories.

    Hi Mike watched both Carlisle videos and really enjoyed. The convoy was a real mixture and nice to see.

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  5 років тому

      Yes David that convoy was a nice bonus for me on the night, it was running about 50 mins late which wasn't a problem as I wasn't going anywhere. Cheers Mike.

    Just caught up with this one Mike! Freight at night has a certain romance for me - although you probably wouldn't agree whilst standing around on draughty platforms! Great camera angles and the station lighting really helped to show wagon detail to great effect.

      Thank you Ian for your continued interest in my videos, over the years I've had some very good all-nighter, but them day are gone now as the freight traffic is getting to little to be out all night. Mike.

    This is an excellent video Mike, very enjoyable. Might not be as many people around as in the good 'ole days but that was an impressive selection of freight and so nice to see the 86s still in daily service, some 54 yrs after the first one was built. I'd love to know what "words" you had with that guy that got in your way when filming the 90s departing......the guy that was an uncanny resemblance to your identical twin brother !!!

    Some very nice nocturnal action there Mike. It may not be as busy as in the past, but still a decent evening spell and lots of Class 86's to enjoy - in fact plenty of electric freight traction unlike the southern WCML!

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  5 років тому

      I must admit Darren I have a soft spot for the Class 86s as they were the first electric loco I saw when I started spotting.

    The first 66 was pulling a hefty load. Amazing how many 86's passed through. And have to say thats an unexpected video. Must have been cold. Thanks for sharing.

      Well Richard I wasn't cold as I had plenty of clothing on, regarding the class 86 it the best time to get them on film, and yes that shed sounded awesome didn't it. Mike.

    Just something about trains at nightime, when i was a young lad, most of our train trips here in south africa was on sleeper trains, lol i never slept, watching out of the window at every stop and the goings on at the mostly quiet stations during the night, just the odd steam engine doing some shunting, lol i can carry on all night!

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  5 років тому

      I know what you mean Theo as every time I have travelled on a sleeper train to Scotland I got very little sleep as its very bumpy, always better on the return because you are so knackered. Regards Mike.

    Hi would it possible do an up to date video for carlisle station same times 2021

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  3 роки тому

      Kevin I would like to, the distance of being two hundred miles away is not a problem, but I haven't got the enthusiasm to stand on that station with so little freight trains to film at night anymore.
      In years gone by there was one word to describe that station at night and that was "fantastic" but the last two videos I've done there its been very slow.
      But thank you Kevin for watching my video, the last video I did there was on the 11/12/2019, If you can't find it I will send you a link. Cheers Mike.
