    He is a total master of his voice and floats between his lower voice and his head voice with great accomplishment. I love how So Real goes into unexpected and very odd harmonies that make the music so much more haunting and memorable. He creates drama in his face that he is straining, but there is never any strain in his vocal instrument. He was a master of both vocal art and performance art.

    imo, the two biggest voids in art/culture were left by Heath Ledger and JEFF BUCKLEY.
    they strike me as similar as they were lost at a similar age, right in the midst of their prime, and CLEARLY the best at what they did.
    we were truly cheated out of pure greatness with JB. he was (and still is) the best modern vocalist, and his songwriting is incredible.
    literally a devastating void left in his wake. what a tragic loss. we are all worse off from his passing.

    When this album first came out I use to put it on repeat on my little CD player next to my ear as I slept. I wanted to know every single nuance. I literally was in love with his voice, the drumming, the feel. To this day I am still in awe of this music. He was other worldly. I saw him live and had a ticket to see him again but he fell asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over before that second chance. I am very glad I grew up when I did. Music formed me, I have no idea if I was 17 in 2018 if today's music would have such a life changing effect.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983  5 років тому +1

      What do you mean that you had a ticket to see him again? Surely, dates for an upcoming tour had not been made at the time of his death. He was on hiatus, writing new material and set to record his sophomore album.

    • @SirBiggle
      @SirBiggle 5 років тому +2

      MojoPin1983 he played gigs at a venue by where he lived when he was on hiatus. That could be what they where talking about.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983  5 років тому +3

      I know, but I don’t believe one needed a ticket to watch the Barrister’s shows. It was basically a bar with a stage. I imagine that admission was free (perhaps there was a cover charge) and one simply paid for drinks. I doubt tickets were made for those shows. I assume anyone could come to see him play.

    • @foggythedrum
      @foggythedrum 5 років тому +3

      MojoPin1983 the first time I saw him was at Glastonbury 1995. He was booked to play there again in 1997. By then all my friends were totally into him too. He died a month before the festival.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983  5 років тому +3

      How do you know that he was booked to play Glastonbury in 1997? Are you sure about that? He and his band were literally going to go back into the studio on May 30th (the day after he died). I imagine that they probably would have been busy recording for probably 6 weeks or so. I doubt that they would have taken a break from their sessions, just to go to England for a single show. As far as I know, there was no European tour in the works, so playing Glastonbury that year seems unrealistic,

      @@orangejuicejones6075 Read 'Dream Brother' a parallel biography about Jeff and his father Tim Buckley who he hardly knew. They were both tortured souls. I was a big Tim Buckley fan back in the day and was surprised to learn more recently that Tim was not well known like his contemporaries James Taylor or Joni Mitchell, but equal to them in talent at his peak. When I discovered Jeff after Grace came out, I was amazed at some of the similarities.

    I had a recent debate about the correct location of this: the DVD this comes from lists it as the LR, however, multiple gig lists have it as Nihon Seinenkan, of course also in Tokyo and apparently is a hotel...neither my friend or I know which is right of course lol. The date is given as the 31 as well.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983  6 років тому +2

      Yeah, I wasn’t sure which venue was correct. According to Grace Around the World, the version of Hallelujah, that is included - which I had to cut from this video, due to copyright - is listed as MTV Japan and recorded on 31 January 1995. That is most likely the correct information, however, the GATW DVD contains some errors. For instance: they have the Lover, You Should’ve Come Over performance from Live in Chicago dated as either the 8th or 9th of November, 1994; which were The Green Mills gigs. The Metro gig took place on 13 May 1995. They also screwed up some of their MuchMusic credits. I still think it is safe to assume this particular video is from January 31st. The hotel venue seems odd, though, unless it has/had a large auditorium attached to it.

      I agree. I think that is due to the reserved nature of the audience. Jeff's performances fed off the energy of the crowd. This performance took place in Japan, where audiences tend to be more quiet.

    Bless you, Jeff.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983  4 роки тому +3

      That doesn’t comport with the fact that his band was arriving at the Memphis airport, literally at the time that he was swimming in the Wolf River, and that he was excited to see them, and resume work on the sophomore album, the very next day. Music was Jeff’s life. He wouldn’t have purposlely sabotaged that by leaving behind an unfinished album, and barely any songs to his name. His death was just a stupid accident, which resulted from his penchant for reckless behaviour.
