That is really interesting. I am intrigued to see how this holds up over time. It would be great if this actually works because there are so many great BMWs with grey interiors, and getting them resprayed professionally is expensive (had it done before).
I bought this kit for my 335i on your recommendation. ITS ALL YOUR FAULT! Just kidding😂. That kit works great! If the directions are followed in your video a person will get a great result. The manufacturer sent me a note that said to make sure the seats are clean before dying. You pointed that out as the first step. Obviously it’s critical. Good video. Thank you.
Little advice. The leather should be stripped from the top coat which is like a clear coat on the car paint so the leather can absorb the dye and than protected with a top coat again to protect the dye and stop the dye transfer on to your clothes. Looks good but it might wear off because the surface was not prepared correctly and protected on top.
Bartoszkotowski is right. Nearly all auto leather is finished with a flexible clear coat in varying finishes (gloss /matte etc). The original layer needs to be removed with something like a paint thinner before color is applied. Then it gets resealed with the clear finish. (I worked at a leather repair product company)
About to pick up a e39 540 with a 6spd swap and they need the rear seats dyed black just like this. Thanks for making this video!!!! Next will be a S62 swap
I don‘t drive a bmw, but I have a 2008 Mustang GT, and I want to change my interior to black because in the moment it is beige and I‘mma do this to the car, it’s way cheaper because I live in germany and to get those rear seats for me is so expensive but this diy is perfect 🎉thanks man💪
Great job man! I'm looking forward to do the same to mine. Happy to know that the product also works on plastics. That way i'll turn black all the inside grey as it's outside black. I'd love you to make a more detailed video of a full leather seat restauration, maybe your front seats
Painted black trim pieces on the seats won't look good I think. You can easily tell they've been repainted. The paint will probably peel off as well. It would be much better to get a set of factory black seats. They would be cheap if you get the standard ones (Not M Sport). They don't make M Sport version for the wagon anyway :) I was also wondering is that dye going to stay on the seats or it will stick to your pants in the hot summer days.
I folded it up and down and painted as much as I could! I think once it's in the car, if you find some visible spots where it's still grey, you can touch it up with the little brush. Thanks for watching!
Held up great so far, although I parked my car inside the garage, so I can't speak for it's effectiveness under UV for extended time. Feels nice to the touch still.
@@TheBimmerBarn ok, thanks. cuz i was really wondering about the longevity of the dye in terms of rubbing off and such. i see so many bad reviews on products like this makes me wonder
@@mostwanted6379 the coating is actually really flexible and holds up really well. The only damage it does take it scratches which remove the paint and you see the grey underneath. But luckily this product makes it really easy to do touch-ups if necessary 👍
Great Job Chris! Dutch regards and have a great weekend, Nico. ( btw I fixed the 335i prime issue by changing out the EKPM2. I use the EKPM3 from the LCI models because they are upgraded ones).
I don't have a lot of passengers in the rear of my car, but that being said, it hasn't shown any signs of wear or change since this video. If I did this again, I would probably do 1 more coat to make sure everything comes out even. Thanks for watching!
@@sirmo667 be extra vigilent in the creases or where the seams are. This stuff is great for filling in small cracks, but if you aren't careful, it can get thick in some of the seams and then later once it's dried its not easy to fix. As with most things, the more patience you have, the better the results!
@@TheBimmerBarn Hey! I just died some leather bits in my F10 550 and honestly it came out really good! I used some dye from hobby lobby but MAN it looks SO GOOD! I used a degreaser first, then used a paintbrush to apply the dye and a foam paintbrush (black foam ones) to spread it out even and collect the excess dye. Turned out very well! I appreciate your advice and video for the confidence!
Yesssss, and luckily I was able to take the black headliner trim pieces from my M5 parts car, so soon we will do a suede headliner on this car for sure! Thanks for watching 😎
One question. Can you do the exact same thing on door vinyl and leather trims and dashboard without having to spray it?
Have you tried this yet? Let me know how it went.

I hope it bonds well to the surface. The instructions say to use a leather conditioner to protect it after fully dried, which makes sense!
How could I strip the top layer
@@tomek860 yeah that video isn’t really a DIY tho. It’s showing how a professional shop with a bunch of money in tools does it.

Wthout doubt the best BMW channel! Thanks for amazing content
11 months later, how well did it last?
That dye looks really great! I've seen a few BMWs with dark blue interior, I see a dye job in my future for the X1 and x5
Love the crocs.
thank's for adding some windings to my ball of yarn Holmes - olive oil can be added as needed - looks great
How is the dye holding up after some time? Going to be doing a color change on my 3 series interior seats and was curious before diving in.
You should use the old Mike Brewer black spray paint trick on back panels, boot carpet and parcel shelf, good job mate!
Is that a longhaired german shepherd at 14:13??? We have one too!
Also, great video! The black really transforms the interior!
Yes, his name is Goose! Thanks for watching :)

Does the black dye stain clothes??
A little tip to dabbing is to use a body massager tool. Glue on a pad and it makes like so much easier

Awesome! Thank you for the positive comment :) I also can't wait to do the rest of the interior.
if you used a topcoat they've have come out less shiny and more oem. But you can do that at anytime after painting them.
Nice! I may have to find some of that dye that matched the tan interior!

Do you have any tips for removing the rear carpet behind the seat without breaking anything?
Use lots of plastic trim tools!
Can you send a link as I can't find this on the uk amazon site
Link is in the description, but maybe it's not available in your country? Good luck!
It’s not the same product your using in your link
This was done a year ago now, how is it holding up?
Holding up great! Car's been parked inside/outside. No cracking or peeling. Very happy with the result!
Only one thing of dye?
Could this come up on light colored clothing?
No it's not that type of dye, it's very glossy and if anything comes off it will flake off I'd think.

😂
How has it held up for you? Plan on doing the exact same to mine soon.
