Thank you for watching my video about identifying pearls! What gemmy topic should I talk about in my next video?

Real pearl colors and DYED/treated colors.

@@DouglasMcLaurin I think this topic is an absolute MUST!! And I think it should be a collab 😜 What do you say?

I always tell people not to do the teeth test. You can rub the two ends of the pearl necklace together to get the same effect. Sandpaper feel means it's real, smooth and slides right off = fake. Also real pearls when rubbed together will give off some residue like powder, but they wipe right off and doesn't leave scratches. -Eric (jhj/agta)

Ooh! That is super helpful! Thank you so much! I hate recommending the teeth test to jewelry professionals because it’s really not sanitary to put someone else’s pearls in your mouth 😅🤣 But if they’re your own pearls, it’s less weird lol.

Even though I won't be buying pearls in near time, thank you for the very informative and useful video! It's good to learn how to tell the real and the fake ones ❤❤❤

Love the pearl videos! Can you make a video about pearl overtone vs orient vs body color? I get so confused about the three and I would love to see an informational video about that.

That’s a really great suggestion!!! Let me see if I can get my hands on some pearls with these attributes and I’ll start working on that video. I think it’s a complicated topic that definitely needs to be discussed

@@JewelsoftheTrade I would also be interested in watching a video about the cross section of freshwater vs saltwater pearls to see what's inside each. I would also love to go in depth about mantle tissue in freshwater pearls vs nucleated bead in saltwater pearls. How are the nucleated bead made? Are they manmade beads from other mollusk shells? How are they already round? Are the nucleated beads from saltwater or freshwater mollusks? And how are saltwater pearls more valuable when they have nucleated beads with less nacre around them, while freshwater pearls don't use nucleated beads and have more layers of nacre and take longer to form? etcetera.

@@moonbeam-x1j oooh you would actually LOVE the CPAA’s Pearls as One course. It’s actually free if you use the code JOTT, but covers all of this! Let me double check on some of these and give you some quick answers

@@moonbeam-x1j Akoya shell nuclei (usually) come from freshwater mussel shells in the Tennessee River Valley. Freshwater pearls can be nucleated with a pearl nucleus, a shell nucleus, or an earthen matter nucleus. Tahitian pearls are nucleated with a freshwater bead.

Soak the pearl in vinegar. If it turned brownish, it is fake. . . The vinegar, that is.
