If you are a fish your defence strategy will be to swim in a shoal of your own species (i.e. similar size) all of which are using all their senses particularly their vision and pressure sensors all over their bodies to 'keep an eye out' for the arrival close-by of anything anomalous - particularly if it is big enough to eat them - i.e. much bigger than them, or for a reaction from their neighbours that indicates a similar event. If you have ever seen a video of a shark swimming into a shoal of fish you will know how effectively this strategy works - all the fish manage to stay magically just out of reach of the shark. However, if another fish of similar size to yourself drifted gently up behind you and your neighbours, you would think "no problem - just another fish from my shoal getting a bit personal...". If that fish then turned out to be nothing but mouth, opened and swallowed you, you could console yourself on your way down the Plesiosaur's very long throat with the fact that he had broken all the rules of engagement, that it wasn't fair and that you should be given another chance... NOT.

So plesiosaurs vs saurupods....they look alike....only one has flippers and one has legs.....a good comparison is a sea turtle vs land turtle....they look very similar just different limbs
