TILLY’S TRANSFORMATION: HOW WE HELPED THIS PONY BE HAPPY AGAIN

  • It’s been a long road with this pony and one that made me completely doubt myself and my ability. I’ve never experienced a pony that showed up the complete opposite of what you were expecting, and it was a hard thing to do to let go of your plans and have faith that there is something wrong with this pony that you don’t know and who showed up angry from day one. We started treating Tilly for ulcers and slowly found a different pony. I had to basically restart her but we eventually got to where she is today, and thankfully that is a happy pony who no longer hates us all. It’s been an emotional roller coaster with Tilly, but I’m pretty proud of the pony she is now!

    THANK YOU for not slapping a martingale on her…you actually WORKED with her!🙌🏻 A lot of people are too eager to use equipment instead of actually fixing the problem- great job!😊

    Thank you for this video! We almost bought Tilly also off her unicorn costume video but decided to pass on her only because we wanted something in the 13 hand range. We ended up finding a pony in Houston. We lived in San Antonio at the time but 2 weeks after buying Nugget, we moved to Missouri and he came completely unraveled. Mostly ground mannors but his riding also went down hill. My last straw was this fall when he slammed on the breaks after a cross rail and sent my daughter flying. We also treated for ulcers and took him to a trainer. The trainer’s opinion is he’s barely broke, definitely a lied too by seller situation. It’s been heartbreaking and exhausting but we found my daughter a “in the meantime” pony and I’m taking the year to start Nugget over again. Your video gives me hope that we can make Nugget into what we thought he was! Thank you.

    I'm so glad you saw what she could be instead of just seeing what she came out as. A lot of people would just give up on a pony that was rough around the edges and you saw the true pony in her

    Lunging her is definitely recommend.. also, a lot of people don’t recognize how a taller rider can find it more difficult on a small pony. Like you said, they don’t train themselves.

    When she’s in crossties or lunging, she doesn’t look small. But even Chloe riding her makes her look small, it’s kinda funny

    I really admire your way of putting your stress and frustration aside to work with this pony!!! That is a rare skill that so many don’t have!!
    You are awesome and I love the way you ride and let the kids help with the pony’s training when it’s safe to do so !!!

    The feeling you get when you crack the code with a horse is incredible. In my own experience over the years, I've struggled with horses not turning out right but I've learned so much when it comes to problem solving with them. Sometimes they just need someone who won't give up.

    I always try to think with animals that bad behavior means they are trying to communicate something, either fear, confusion, or pain. But I totally agree with you, with a pony, I would’ve never suspected ulcers to start. They are not known to be ulcer-prone but I guess any horse can be! I was actually confused in one of your last videos when you mentioned Tilly and said you treated her for ulcers 😂 it’s always so great to see a transformation like this and know that they are healthy and comfortable! Do you mind saying what the generic ulcer treatment was? I’ve used Alber equine and it’s like 1/4 the price of gastroguard just curious if there are others out there too!

    Gosh never heard of a poop test for ulcers. Here in the UK the only way to diagnose ulcers is a gastroscope

    • @joe-z_leota
      @joe-z_leota 4 місяці тому

      that's because the poop test isn't yet accepted in Europe. My vet just told me a few weeks ago (my boy had ulcers) and we also went the gastroscope route. Gastro also means that you can check which type of ulcers, how bad they are and also if there are other problems. The stomach has two types of lining and depending on where the ulcer is, you need different meds. Also depending on how strong the ulcer is. So a gastroscope does make sense because you gain more knowledge. My vet however told me we could just treat for ulcers and then check back if it helped, but since my horse had to be hospitalized we decided to fully check, just to make sure.

    What was the generic omeprazole you were using? Gastrogard is also just omeprazole… Im just curious why one worked better than the other!
    Your videos on your training journeys really encourages me to be patient with my problematic horse; hopefully he’ll come around soon too!

    • @StephaniePrince23
      @StephaniePrince23  6 місяців тому +1

      The first omeprazole we used is something I get from my vet. It’s just omeprazole without a brand label on it so significantly cheaper. The supplements we switched her to when we treated with Gastroguard could have helped it work better for her - I’m not sure!

    • @andiee4163
      @andiee4163 6 місяців тому

      @@StephaniePrince23 I was curious because I know a company in Europe, Abler, makes generic omeprazole at the same strength as Ulcergard/Gastrogard, for like $11/tube. Wonder if my vet carries a generic 🤔

    i have done so good w her!!!❤ i have a question, why did you never use/try a martingale with her? after you found out the problem but after she was treated?

    • @StephaniePrince23
      @StephaniePrince23  6 місяців тому +6

      Thank you! A martingale maybe could have covered up the head tossing but I have a feeling it would have actually just made her more mad because she would have felt even more trapped. I’d rather take extra time on any horse to get them to accept my hand or whatever the problem is rather than just add equipment!
