    Is there any difference among these following sentences?
    I baked it myself.
    I baked it by myself.
    I baked it on my own.
    Thank you in advance!

      Cane Mafija, While those sentences all could have the same meaning, there could still be some subtle differences in nuance. 'I baked it myself' might be emphasizing that it wasn't bought from a store, I, in fact, made it at home. The second one, 'I baked it by myself' may be trying to say that no one helped me, it was only I who baked it. The third one would also be implying that I didn't have help, that I did it alone. Great question!

    Hi, Andrew! Can I use "by myself" instead of "myself"? For instance, in the sentence "I will talk to the manager by myself". Or can I use "on my own"?

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  6 років тому +2

      Hi Olegman, yes, you could use either one in this situation. But as mentioned in the video, only adding the reflexive pronoun is more about giving emphasis while 'by myself' indicates that you will do it alone. Still, in your sentence above, they could be used pretty interchangeably.

    "The dilemma of illicit activities is accounting for the origin of the proceeds of such activities without raising the suspicion of law enforcement agencies"
    What does" to account for " mean in this sentence

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  6 років тому +2

      Hello there. In this sentence, 'accounting for' basically means 'is the reason for' or 'makes up'. I hope this answers your question.

    i didnt skip the ad . thanks for the great lesson! I have a question, how to use "basically"? thanks very much!

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  5 років тому

      Basically, the word basically is used to say that this is the general idea of something. For instance, 'Are you from New York City?' 'Yeah, basically. I grew up right outside of it.'

    Hello! What about when we use it in phrases like: "I met the president himself"? is it like saying "In person"? edit: And "I'm a teacher myself"

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  4 роки тому +1

      What's it's really saying is that it's the actual person, not an impostor or joke or, in this case, perhaps a different kind of president. As for 'I'm a teacher myself' it would usually be said in response to someone else saying that they are a teacher, too. A: What do you do? B: I work as a chemistry teacher at a high school. A: What a coincidence, I'm a high school teacher myself.

    Hello sir. When we use "his self"?

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  5 років тому +2

      Hisself is a substitute for himself though it is typically used as a slang word, particularly in certain places.

    what is different between reflexive pronoun and emphasizing pronouns

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  4 роки тому

      The emphasizing pronoun is that same as the reflexive pronoun used for emphasis that I talked about in the video.

    Hello.Pls explain this sentence. Reflexive pronouns. (Each student has to teach_____how to study well)

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  4 роки тому

      The subject (each student) and the object (each student) are the same so then the object becomes a reflexive pronoun (himself, herself, themselves, etc)
