    Excellent class! I’ve taken several classes about this topic on UA-cam, but your class was better than the other. Why?, because your examples were about real situations. In addition your explanation about how to pronounce the contraction between the modals, not and have, was fantastic. Thank you so much. You are the first English teacher on UA-cam to help me out with my progress in this fascinating language.

    I think a lot of English learners have some problem to use "would have", "could have" and "should have". So this lesson is awesome for us as an Englis learner. I would have been fluent in English if I saw this lesson earlier.
    Thanks, teacher, your teaching is great.
    Good luck.

      Peter Peter, yes, in your above example, the 'if' clause should be in the past perfect tense.

    Excellent tutorial video, dear ML-ESL! I've always found myself quite confused in expressing myself with the proper use of Should, could and would and believe me, it has vaporized that long held confusion in minutes! Great work! You exemplified the three with the best structured sentences. Mentioning the difference b/w would have and could have (former to be more certain than the latter) is AWESOME! Let me assure you, you will continue to receive "thumbs up and +ve comments" not for just years, but for the decades...means as long as this video will stay at UA-cam! Thumbs up and up and up...! Thanks ! Could u explain what does it mean : Paul would have been asked?
    I mean what is the different between: should have been + past participle and would have been past participle etc . thank you!

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  6 років тому

      Using 'should' implies that it's someone's opinion and they feel it was a good idea. Using 'would' is just to say that this was a different alternative to the past. So 'Paul would've been asked if we knew he could help us' but 'Paul should've been asked because he could've helped us'. Truthfully, however, I would change that sentence to 'We should've asked Paul' instead of the passive voice structure you used above.
