    min. 8.23, is the expression "I baked the cake myself" also correct if I say "I baked the cake by myself"? Does it change the meaning? Are they both correct? Maybe the second emphasizes that it was made alone, without any help, while the first expression might have included some help?

    Hello teacher . Hope you're doing well 🙏
    I've got a question.
    What if I say : 👇
    I will clean the room by myself .
    I will clean the room myself .
    I cooked the whole meal by myself.
    I myself cooked the whole meal .
    I cooked the whole meal myself .
    Are there any differences at all ?
    Or they are the same ?
    Please explain it to me .🙏
    Oh sorry , I've got another question : 👇
    What about "imperative sentences" ?
    Should I say :
    Do your homework by yourself .
    OR
    Do your homework yourself .
    And which one is correct ? Any differences ?
    Please reply. May you have a good day 🙏👋
    Thank you so much .

    • @oxfordenglishnow
      @oxfordenglishnow  4 роки тому

      Hi hesam, to answer your question, if you say "by myself," you are emphasising that you were alone. Whereas if you say: "I will clean the room myself." It means that it will be just you that completes the task. This has also the same meaning in imperative questions.

    Is it fine if I said I bought myself a shirt for someone?
    Because "myself" refers to I or the indirect object that means I receive the action of the verb "bought" by the direct object. Is that mean I bought a shirt myself, not anyone esle?
    But I want to emphasize how I bought it myself for a person...like I bought the shirt and gave it to a person.

      Hi Sourav, Ok in the first sentence, I think you could use either tense, the present for a habit, your dad tells you regularly. Whereas if you use the past tense, it refers to a completed action in the past. He is no longer telling you to obey your teachers. For the second sentence, again you could use both. The present tense describes a habit or routine, you catch a fish every morning. Whereas, I caught refers to a past completed action. Hope that helps!

    What about intensive pronouns ? i'm confused 😭😭

    • @oxfordenglishnow
      @oxfordenglishnow  2 роки тому +1

      Hi avocado vanilla, An intensive pronoun is almost identical to a reflexive pronoun, but their functions differ. Intensive pronouns are used to add emphasis to the subject or antecedent of the sentence. You’ll usually find the intensive pronoun right after the noun or pronoun it’s modifying, but not necessarily. You can tell the difference between a reflexive pronoun and an intensive pronoun easily: intensive pronouns aren’t essential to a sentence’s basic meaning, whereas reflexive pronouns are. I hope that helps!
