Overwhelmed Olivia is always close beneath the surface, partly because I myself am ADHD, and partly because I have a few non-neurotypical kids. And partly because I am homeschooling 5 kids at once. I've been homeschooling for over 12 years, and I haven't learned how to fix this cycle that I'm about to share. I have however practically become a homeschool curriculum expert with all the stuff I've bought and/or looked into 😂 So, I plan for months... in about March or April, I turn into Strategic Susan minus the heavily organized/laminated planner... Plans change/morph/etc for the next few months until they are "solidified" in late July/early August. When the school year starts, the plan always falls apart, becomes too overwhelming, etc. Once the plan falls completely to the wayside, I become Best Intentioned Becky - and I find new things that are just "totally going to work this time!!" Hope springs eternal. But they don't and things fall apart. So, after that, I become Carefree Cathy, and "at least we're doing something right now, even if we're not doing as much core subject stuff!" and "It's fine if we don't finish this curriculum this year, we'll just catch up next year, if needed!" Then March/April comes around again... and the cycle starts over. I'm currently in my Strategic Susan part of the cycle, but Overwhelmed Olivia is reminding me about all the things that always fall apart, LOL!
Wow, this is exactly me, too!
I am definitely a combo of Best Intentions Becky (because I love seeing and buying and dreaming of using all the pretty curriculum) and Overwhelmed Olivia because I can't keep up, barely keeping my head above water, and have to cut out half of what I planned.
Overwhelmed Olivia fits me to a T with a Best-intentioned Becky as a supporter because I won't switch curricula once I've spent money on it.
Overwhelmed Olivia but also best intentions Becky and I try to be a little strategic sally, but Olivia peeps her head out 😂😂
100% strategic Sally. The second summer starts, I am planning planning planning. I have set my hours for each subject next year. I am very OCD in my homeschooling, it's frustrating sometimes. I am a Carefree Cathy wannabe. 😂
I relate to Olivia! We have 5 kids. The only exception is I KNOW I can do this but I always make everything harder for myself because I want to do the BEST for our kids. I just have a hard time keeping up with ALL of the BESTS I have in mind.
Perfectionism is a struggle for sure!
Definitely Best Intentions Becky with a touch of Carefree Cathy
Best intentions Becky with a little Overwhelmed Olivia on the side. 😊
Ummm...I see myself a little bit in all of them. My lesson plans aren't laminated but I do own a laminator. Hahahah! I do have plans, but I definitely never saw Homeschooling on my grown-up Bingo card. I guess I would say in my 11 years now homeschooling, I see how I have been all 4 at some time or another. Right now, I think I sit at Best Intentions Becky.
Best Intentions Becky 🙋♀️ eagerly waiting on my curriculum delivery for next year to arrive!
After a health scare last fall, I definitely feel like Overwhelmed Olivia. I worry that we didn't get enough done and I am failing my kid. 😟
I am definitely overwhelmed Olivia!! 😔
Becky+Cathy!
Best Intentions Becky!
Carefree Cathy and Best intentions Becky
Betsy and Susan mix here!
Best intentions Betsy and overwhelmed Olivia 🙋♀️🙋♀️
My child is 2 and I’m planning ahead because I hate planning and have no idea how I’m going to do this 😵💫😝 but definitely #4. Help!! lol
Keep watching! And hold those plans loosely!
Best Intentions Becky and Overwhelmed Olivia
I'm Becky, and Olivia.
I am mostly an overwhelmed Olivia!! I am undiagnosed, but sure, myslef (and at least one of my children) have adhd. I love plans... but i can never seem to stick to them for more than a week - it's awful and discouraging. I constantly feel like a failure and i don't want to pass that on to my kids... but that's what I sometimes and I'm so sad about that! I crave structure but have SO little implementation power. HELP!

I seriously thought you were going to say “shrink wrapped for 3 YEARS” not “months”. Heh. Maybe a bit overwhelmed here! But in time, I usually circle back around and make space for something I was excited about as that infant or toddler gives a bit more space.
I don't want to freak anyone out too much 😂
A combination of all 4. Hot mess ADHD mom here.
