In this video Derek introduces Ewa Gentry. It's not quite "Ewa" nor is it "Ewa Beach" Watch to find out why.
This neighborhood is located on the west side of the island of Oahu.
Ewa Gentry is right next to Kapolei and Waipahu.

Prescott, Sonoma? Why are they naming subdivisions with mainland names? Ugh. Just make it more like Phoenix, AZ why don’t you? No like!!

OMG, those cookie-cutter houses are so close to each other, the neighbors can smell the curry chicken cooking for lunch in that house on the right side.

Yep that is why I would never live in Ewa. I prefer old plantation homes with jalousie windows. It is disgusting to see the new construction being so “mainland”. I know a lot of my coworkers have bought in Ewa, I guess because it is in their comfort zone to live in mainland type subdivisions. Not me! I love the North Shore where I live but if I couldn’t live here I would choose Kaneohe, Hauula, Kahuku, Laie, Ka’awa, or Kaneohe. I could never ever live in Ewa. Hot, flat, no character.

@@MokuleiaVibesI don’t think it’s much about comfort zone, but more about value. If I’m spending over $1M on a home, I’d rather have something newer. Not a 30 year old house that needs $100K in renovations, or even a tear down in some cases.

@@JWH808 well, I am disgusted that these new home builders don’t incorporate anything into their builds that pays homage to Hawai’i. I don’t think jalousie windows would be that expensive.

The only thing they designed these places for was a quick buck, and nothing else. When I left Ewa Beach in 1976, Ft Weaver was a two lane highway, and NEVER any traffic. It was a nice drive, an I'll always remember the Honouliuli bend (the sharp turn before getting onto Farrington).

I would love to see a video of an older community on Oahu, like from the 1970’s

We grew up living right across of Ewa Beach Elementary in the 1960s, what you have now is not what people envisioned. It is not the once sleepy town where everyone kind of knew everyone. It is now the nightmare created by developers who were only looking for the quick buck. How sad, how pitiful. It is becoming one big Air BNB.

If they did like Kaua’i and had restrictions on what type of home build is allowed and how many floors, it would eliminate this crap! There should be a law that the home builds have character of Hawai’i. Not continent! It is sickening. Sorry brah I hate to possibly be influential with my comments and have you lose business selling real estate in Ewa, but I feel so strongly about this.

Dang I been missing out these videos! Got a lot of catching up to do! I remember moving to Ewa beach from Nanakuli and going to Campbell making new friends. My friend had to explain to me that “Ewa” and “Ewa Beach” is different. Things definitely changed since then.

🤣 Yep, eh, what year you wen grad? From whea? 😜 My siblings and I were born in the 50s. They’ve surfed Hau Bush. (Spelling?) We went to Ewa Beach down the other way back in the day. Think it had a pavilion in the 60s. I did get to play at the Hawaii Prince GC about 5 years ago. Holy moly, the homes out there! Crazy. (I moved away in ’81) Then last year we went to the new golf course to watch the LPGA tournament and I was so disoriented. Ewa and Ewa Beach were two distinct places. I have to drive around on my next visit. With Kapolei, the whole place is lit up at night! 😃 Thank you for doing all these videos. Eye opening, very informative and entertaining. Da best. 👍🏼🌴👏🏼

People in my area are just as focused on high schools, asking where someone went to high school, etc. It is common where most of the people grew up and stayed in a place.

I visited my Ewa Beach Army friend when he was at Fort Campbell, and there's a lot of soldiers and veterans who went through Schofield and had lived in Hawaii for many years.

Mainlander transplants. (Yes I am one but I am middle class and don’t come from California wealth)…I am just a nurse who moved here to be close to my ohana who have been on Kaua’i for over 30 years.

My feeling is that if there is good sound insulation and there aren't neighborhood kids screaming at the top of their lungs, you can get used to living in any dwelling. That said, looking at these developments, you see how people settle to live where they can in Hawaii. It's not the paradise of every mainlander's dreams, but it will do, if things like the pace of things, safety, respect for others, and access to the shore are still part of living in the community.

Kailua. Ugh. And any other town/city in the “metro” area close to town. But nothing is as bad as Ewa.
