    Man those bone replacements have to hurt

      Golden Retriever it is just as painful as you think. I think the worst part of the whole thing is you can't stay off the limb. Within an hour of so of waking up after surgery they get you standing. Within a day you are walking. If flexion and movement aren't achieved quickly then scar tissue forms that will permanently affect your ability to move. The other sucky part? If you are lucky the implant will last more than 20 years. Sometimes all you get is a few years before you are back having it redone... Hopefully I've got 12 more years before I am back for new joints!

      Golden Retriever well not being able to walk sucks more than the replacements... So you have to take the bad with the good!

    Dang, look how 3d printers had changed

      depositing liquid plastic was still a thing back then, just as laser 3d printing still is now. they use the laser process in medical devices because it is stronger and more resilient. the plastics they use are not easily liquifiable

    Which Software is used for 3d modelling?

    • @GardevoirEx1

      Looks a Magics RP... But according to EOSINT, the 3D printer company, any kind of SLT CAD software should work (Rhinoceros, AutoCAD).

      mimics is the most popular, there are open source and custom versions available for those of us who have special needs, but it's less modeling and more image analysis. The software runs a few algorithms to isolate the bone and output a solid model of it.

      they're cleared not approved, they're simply custom cutting guides. This isn't a knee implant

    The best orthopedic surgeons ar early adopters of this technique and includes using robotic surgery to perform knee ops.
    But the truth is that knee cartilage can already be completely regenerated using stem cells and micro fracture techniques. It's being carried out by Dr.Saw in Malaysia. World class. It is not yet available in the USA but will be in some years due to FDA regulations.

    • @sinkingputts
      @sinkingputts 5 років тому +2

      I'm sorry but this is false. There is a possibility that you can regenerate some cartilage but patients that are in need of a total knee replacement are way past help from cartilage regeneration. Secondly this isn't even a customized knee, these are just customized cut jigs. The actual implants are still generic. It you want a real custom implant there's only one company that does that. Conformis Inc out of Boston USA

      Cartilage regeneration doesn't have a good success rate here in India. Here people prefer TKR..
