Y'notice how in processes that involve 50 pound mixers, they no problem telling us "165 degress Celsius" and "35 pounds of flour", but in *this* -- where it's small enough to make at home -- it's "secret ingredients" and "a top-secret target temperature"? :-)
MrWnw You can make bread, pasta, stocks, grind or grate or chop your own spices, make your own food, but people still buy premade stuff due to any combination of convenience, lack of cooking skill, or indifference towards the quality of what they’re eating.
Before I watched this video I imagined the voice saying "English toffee" and then when the voice said "English toffee" it sounded exactly like I'd imagined. Perfection. I love How It's Made and the two different voice actors they've had. ...that I know of 🤯
Off the top of my head I can think of 6 presenters, though I believe in the U.S. there was only ever two. Each major broadcast market seemed to get a different set of presenters which is quite interesting.
If it hasn't got butter in it, then strictly speaking it can't be called toffee, so the yanks put "English" in front of it to make it more appealing to vegans.
My mom and I make toffee around Christmas time every year. The recipe is different and we don't use crushed nuts. We use sprinkles instead and it's still delicious as ever.
I've never probably had real English toffee, but I will say this "fake" stuff is freaking crazy delicious. Trader Joe's has a type with pistachios and dark chocolate, it's addicting how good it tastes!
Than what is ENGLISH TOFFEE ? dont just say something negative and than dont provide EVIDENCE for it ......... wheres your evidence mate ? wheres a link to the so called REAL ENGLISH TOFFEE that you know of.?

@@agentstona Dude, chill, it's only sweets. I'm saying this from the perspective of an English person who has been eating toffee all his life. When I think of English toffee I generally think of a chewy, dairy based toffee with no toppings or anything. Plus, we don't use pecans often in English cooking (at least not where I'm from, could be more common in other parts of the country but IDK). I can't even get this kind of toffee over here, all results on Amazon UK and such for "English toffee" are basically any toffee made in England, but primarily the aforementioned plain stuff. Also, check the other comments. There's tonnes of people from England who's saying the same things as me. In fact, my comment's probably the least negative out of any of them. I literally said that it looks good. I love chocolate and nuts and those aren't necessarily uncommon additions to English toffee. I totally think it (or at least some variation of it) could catch on here. If you still don't believe me or the hundreds of other Englishmen in the comments, here's a direct quote from the wikipedia entry for Toffee (a source is cited in the actual article) "A popular variant in the United States is English toffee, which is a very buttery toffee often made with almonds ... Although named English toffee, it bears little resemblance to the wide range of confectionery known as toffee currently available in the United Kingdom."
Both are considered correct just us/uk different pronunciation. Though if you wanted to get real into it, comes from the French pacane which they got from the Illinois pakani (= /paka;ni/) so basically just pick whatever you prefer
Typically in the UK it's "PEE-cans". "Peekins", like this guy says, is pretty much unheard of. You'll also never hear "puh-CAWNS" or "PEE-cawns" - that's very American.
Personally I’d move that heating table to where you could walk around it. Save your back. Plus I’m real iffy about it being right against the wall. Not even a stainless steel wall, just straight up paint, which you can see specks of on the table
@FBI He was quite definitely sarcastically mocking people who do that. If he was not, he would not be using "drown" in this context. Stop white knighting some random stranger on the internet.
This is not, repeat NOT “English” toffee!! There are soooo many videos on You Tube making similar claims but none are the real thing. For a start off we don’t put nuts in our toffee ( not unless it’s labelled as nut toffee and that’s more of a speciality toffee than plain English toffee). Also, as others have pointed out , English toffee contains dairy products such as butter, cream etc. So please, enough with the nut toffee vids, they may be toffee but not what we eat here in the UK. Sorry!
3:37 most wasteful and uneficient factory I've seen in here.. On the top right chocolate is sliding down the container and even if it's colected back, a great deal of it is just stuck tothe machines. All the pecans falling in the packages.. Welp, guess a part of hand made is to have loads of losses in the process
I’m English and this is not English toffee. English toffee is smooth not nut coated and very buttery and typically not chocolate coated. This looks good though
My gran worked in a chocolate factory in England many years ago. They were told they could eat as many as they liked. After a few days no one ate the chocolates anymore
”...But Hell, off course, for their dentist”! Bwwwaaa-ha-ha-haha. They ended it with a joke. He he he. “Dentist”, get it? Because sugar is bad for the teeth. Man, that’s so clever. Oh my god, that’s genius. My stomach hurts from all the laughter.
I'll wager that every English viewer of this video is balking at the nonsensical idea of non-dairy fake toffee being defined as "English" due to the sprinkling of pecan nuts on top - which is never done in England. How American does it get, seriously...

Can't have you making it by yourself instead of buying it.
Yes, it's a pitty. But you know, they would lost some income, if people started making it at home. Which you can still do btw.
MrWnw You can make bread, pasta, stocks, grind or grate or chop your own spices, make your own food, but people still buy premade stuff due to any combination of convenience, lack of cooking skill, or indifference towards the quality of what they’re eating.
In all fairness it's called "How It's Made" not "How to Make it"
Before I watched this video I imagined the voice saying "English toffee" and then when the voice said "English toffee" it sounded exactly like I'd imagined. Perfection. I love How It's Made and the two different voice actors they've had. ...that I know of 🤯

I am English, we do not have nuts coating toffee... this is also nothing like English Toffee.
Also this doesn't contain any butter.
For strict vegans...
English toffee is an American term.
get rid of your French horns before you complain about getting your name appropriated.
If it hasn't got butter in it, then strictly speaking it can't be called toffee, so the yanks put "English" in front of it to make it more appealing to vegans.

Do you still eat it?
I was going to say I'm English and I've never seen this toffee before.
What stopped you?
me neither.
AHEM! IT'S "EASY TO SEE" WHY IT'S CALLED ENGLISH TOFFEE
Nah as another brit my mum makes this on the regular when there’s no sweets in the house (well, a much simpler version)
Sure, this isn't actually English toffee, but it looks hella good ngl
Than what is ENGLISH TOFFEE ? dont just say something negative and than dont provide EVIDENCE for it ......... wheres your evidence mate ? wheres a link to the so called REAL ENGLISH TOFFEE that you know of.?

You can clearly hear the disappointment of the narrator, about THIS being an English Toffee
It’s so far from being English toffee, you might as well call it New Zealand toffee! 🤷♂️🤦♂️
I was thinking the same thing, haha.
many comments say it's not real english toffee. i'm not english, and have never had toffee before. however, this looks good and scrumptious :)
I’ve had toffee before....don’t know if it was English. But I’m American and all I remember is it was really freaking good.
I'm English and I've never seen toffee covered in nuts for sale anywhere
It's as English as the English muffins you get at McDonalds. In fact, most people in England don't even eat muffins from anywhere!
if you found someone who actually makes real muffins you’d be very, very lucky !
You can’t snap real stickjaw toffee !
In england, all the muffins are English muffins....
Lmao
That stuff looks delicious! The only toffee I've ever had was Almond Rocha. That's good too.
If this is English toffee how come I've never seen anything like it before? Is this American 'English' toffee?
Alison Porter this is American toffee if anything. It’s delicious but definitely not British 🤷♀️ I’m American btw
I’m American and this is not how we make “English Toffee”...
...but he has a British accent...? 😭
Looks really nice
He said buttery so many times in the beginning and then "dairy free" 😂 Thats choc you're pouring on there hun
Wow, I've never heard that pronunciation before...."peekins" I've only ever heard " peecans" or puhcaans".
Yeah, i'm really confused. What's the right pronunciation of "pecans" then??
Tu Duong puhcaan, i think
Hahahaha I had to listen three times to understand it hahaha
Both are considered correct just us/uk different pronunciation. Though if you wanted to get real into it, comes from the French pacane which they got from the Illinois pakani (= /paka;ni/) so basically just pick whatever you prefer

0:17 do English people like nuts a lot or something…? Because I don’t get that line…
What is with everyone wanting to drown candy with nuts?
I think it is tasty....
What's with you having problem with everyone's taste?
@FBI nah. It doesn't work like that. He started first. He mocks people's taste first. Nice try tho fbi
@FBI that's an indirect mock sir. What's with you with "the his comment"? Good day!
@FBI He was quite definitely sarcastically mocking people who do that. If he was not, he would not be using "drown" in this context. Stop white knighting some random stranger on the internet.
I never had toffee before but it's contrasted to know how it's made

You gonna tell me French fries aren’t French next?
I always wonder what do these places smell like
If you’ve been dieting then you don’t want to find out.
They forgot to rub the fleeb against it. It's important the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb juice.

What do u mean? The chocolate is falling down, where it gets heated and transported up again.
I would imagine dentist love candy and the candy industry
"English" Toffee...
I've never seen that before in my life.
Yummy 😋
I wish that table was my gob!
I've had toffee once but never in my life the authentic one...

"How English toffee is made"... proceeds to show us how something that is definitely not English toffee is made
The caption pic looks more like flapjacks than toffee...?!
Credentials: I’m English
Andrew F it weirds me out that y’all call granola bars flapjacks. Flapjacks in the us are pancakes
I’m English and this is not English toffee. English toffee is smooth not nut coated and very buttery and typically not chocolate coated. This looks good though
SWEET! Do you geddit! Sweet!
I'm starving... 😑
What exactly is English about this? I've never seen toffees like this in all my life of living in England and eating my fair share of toffee.
Literally thought the same.. Why drown good toffee in nuts anyway?
Isn't this what Daim bars are??
Why would you pick non dairy toffee with pecans for an example of ENGLISH TOFFEE? It’s like showing how milk shakes are made without milk
I'm English and Ive no idea what this stuff is. English toffee is chewy like toffee from anywhere else. This looks more like the inside of Dime bars.
This is called Rocha
I'm English, this isn't 'English toffee', traditional English toffee doesn't have chocolate & definitely doesn't have pecans.
English (US) toffee.
I'm English, and never have I seen toffee like this with nuts on.
It's weird to hear it being called "Peecans". We say it like "puh-cahns" where I'm from.
The nutty toffee looked like little flapjacks
Lol made smth like this today w sugar honey and butter
My mum used to make proper English toffee. This isn't it.
What are the ingredients?
i'll just have the toffee because i hate nuts. lol
I would eat that toffee with just the chocolate no nuts required. Lol
I don't think I would stay at this job for long.
I might get fired for eating the chocolate.
My gran worked in a chocolate factory in England many years ago. They were told they could eat as many as they liked. After a few days no one ate the chocolates anymore
I would absolutely eat the pants off a whole box of English toffee right now.
3:50 it's puhcaaaaans stop it ron
I’m confused .... show candy with construction background ...
Well, it is showing how the candy is constructed, so maybe that's the reason.
Sept 1st dumb ass

So it's almond roca but with pecans instead.
This can all be automated...

Uh no, I still don't see why it's called English toffee... XD
How english toffee is made, except it isn't toffee at all.
I'll wager that every English viewer of this video is balking at the nonsensical idea of non-dairy fake toffee being defined as "English" due to the sprinkling of pecan nuts on top - which is never done in England. How American does it get, seriously...
Does the Brit style accent help any?
Peekins
It's definitely English toffee - provided you're not English
Lol I didn't know there were toffee SJWs.
What da heck is a "peakun"? 🤣🤔
This is not English toffee.
