You are brave guys! :) I'm swedish and I'm not eating that. :) But those who eating this just don't do it raw as you did. You use soft bread, unions, boiled potatoes, sour cream and chives. And you roll it like a wrap. Don't forget to remove the bones and the intestine. And if you open the bottle, do it under water so it doesn't get so smelly or stinky. :)
Most of the people that buy this have got to be purchasing it specifically for this challenge, lol. I can't imagine wanting to eat something that's been stewing in a for months. Awesome attempt! I don't know if I could do it not because of the smell but the bones, scales, and guts.
It's more of a nothern swedish tradition The story i heard is that some fishermen were putting herring in barrels together with salt so it woudn't rot But when the last barrel was processed they didn't have enough salt, but they finished the barrel anyway Some finns came over and wanted to buy fish so they sold them the last barrel The finns returned some time later, and the fishermen expected problem But the finns asked to buy more So blame the finns!
I have a friend whom gets hungry from the smell. My grandfather loved it. Personally I can eat it but I don't think it's worth the effort for something merely tolerable. You aren't actually supposed to eat the bones and guts (they're just there for the fermentation process). So you need to gut and butcher your fish until left with just the meat. What you're left with is kinda the ultra-refined form of anchovies.
But from prior occupational experience, fermented fish is nothing compared to the smell of three week old sun cooked ,human remains. Surstromming ain't got nothin on that stench. I used to work at insurance auto auction. Worst job related experience so far
I rather starve than eat and heavily smell this. Based off of all the videos I’ve watched, this really must smell like shit to the one millionth power. I react the same way when I smell A LOT of garlic or deviled eggs🤢🤮.
Love the IKEA bucket for vomit. Swedish deco. 🤣
