    It is a block heater. It comes on when temp sensor reads below 30 degrees, when the switch is on. Or should...
    The lower flex pipe and muffler are one piece. So you order the whole thing.
    The upper flex pipe is the intake for the burner.
    Mine doesn't work. I read in forums many don't work. The two common things seem to be an internal fan or the ignitor not working.

    It's more effective than a block heater. It warms the coolant and is diesel powered. (from the tank) It helps the longevity of your diesel engine by eliminating cold starts. Turning it on also runs the fan in a low power mode. This warms the cab for when you get into your vehicle in the cold weather. (or if your sleeping in your vehicle)

    The wavy button button below the clock will start this heater motor and it runs for 2 hours or it can be programmed for instance to come on at 5:00 am so when you start van at 7:00 am the heater will be blowing warm already also I have floor heater in cargo area so heater will come on through the night to prevent paint drywall mud etc from freezing

    it is an Espar Hydronic similar to the aftermarket d5, its adapted for Mercedes but it works the same. Espar or webasto aslo make heat exchangers that work with air for cabin heating.

  • @TheSmreeder

    That is the interior resting heat exchange... When you shut your engine down while waiting to make a delivery or you just have paper work to do it allows you to run the heater to keep the interior warm for about 30 minutes or so... mine was not working properly and would only blow warm air for less than ten minutes and I found out that the heat exchange was clogged ... So instead of replacing that unit I got an Espir diesel turbine to heat my whole long WB sprinter RV... A really nice unit that mounts under the Pass seat and I can keep the interior at about 68 degrees for 10 hrs at 28 degrees out side temp for less than a half gal of fuel... these were designed for sleepers on the big rigs so the truckers did not have to idle their engines to sleep. The Espir costs about 650 on EBAY new and I installed in about half a day... hope this helps ... many blessings , SMR

      @@ZimaletaMotors look at the top, it runs on diesel. You'll see a fuel line that runs to a pump located underneath near the tank. I found your video as just bought a 2006 and trying to get it to turn on. It doesn't look like its ever been used (58K original miles) previous owner did not know it was there.

    Idk what thing is, but the other response sounds good. That was one of the things i was wondering about b/c i saw those two metal pipes along the fender.
    Diesels run by spraying fuel in the cylinder that is compressed by the piston. The pressure is so high the fuel self combusts, thus pushing back, and starting over again. It's borber line, so when it's colder, it needs a little help. That's where the grow plugs come in. And ether, lol, which self combusts easier.

      No crank no start on t1n sprinter where there is no communication with ecu often has to do with a bad connection in the fuse panel under the steering column. Symptoms of this problem are usually no crank, no start, and the engine cooling fans blow.

      To best of knowledge, no... 2007 and up uses a different system to quickly warm up the engine. I have a 2008 2500 Dodge Sprinter and when starting the engine in cold weather, the engine sounds differently. It sounds like when it does regeneration, which leads me to believe that in cold weather, to warm up the engine, the fuel/air ratio is changed by the computer, where more fuel is added to warm up the engine quickly.

      My 2004 has one that I haven’t been able to figure out how to get it to run yet since there was no owner’s manual with it when I bought it two and a half years ago. There’s a 12 V coolant circulating pump above the fuel filter that pumps coolant from the engine to the boiler, after it gets heated in the boiler it goes to the heater control valve then back to the engine. The heater has a 12 V electric combustion air supply fan, an in-line fuel pump in that skinny little plastic line that someone said looks like a vacuum line, fuel injector, and glow plug. I’ve heard that it has a 180 degree Fahrenheit operating thermostat and probably a heat output of around 17,000BTU/hour, which is about three times as much as an electric 1,500 Watt tank heater can put out!

    My Heater works. There is a controller/timer on the dash. It Heats, circulates and runs your fan on low helping to heat the cabin a little bit. You will know if it is running, you will see a puff of smoke and hear the burner. Mine is a bit noisy. It Keeps the motor nice and toasty. Very Handy in South Dakota.

    Hello, I’m in a bit of a pickle and hoping your able to catch this comment tonight.
    My t1n also has this block heater and I need to know if the fuel tap into the tank goes all the way to the bottom? Petrol was accidentally put into my tank and now I need to siphon it out. I can access from the fuel line that feeds the espar much easier than dropping the tank but I’m concerned it won’t get enough fuel out. Does anyone know if this line goes to the bottom or not?
    Cheers!

    • @vanlifebiker
      @vanlifebiker 3 роки тому

      Probably to late but I'd guess it goes it probably goes within a 1/2" to the bottom or maybe even a 1/4" but the pump is in the center & fuel will sit deeper towards the front because of the natural rake. I wouldn't trust it myself. I'd drop the tank myself to prevent motor damage.

    • @vanlifebiker
      @vanlifebiker 3 роки тому +1

      Someone in the comments here said the heater won't work less than a 1/4 tank which is pretty close to correct according to my manual. I'd say about a 1/8 of a tank because my manual says it cuts off at 4 gallons. If that is correct I'd say 4 gallons of gas will still be left in your tank. I'd say a 1/2" in the bottom would be about 2 to 4 gallon as I said. These tanks are pretty long. Good luck.

      @@ZimaletaMotors that is axillary heater. What it does is: helping your engine to keep working temperature in the engine ( specially if you are in the cold area like north America or Canada) . IT WORKS ONLY IF YOUR ENGINE IS RUNNING. If you have a programmable clock ( in centre console by the shift stick) then you can set up the time and preheat the engine cooling, but it would work only if in your fuel tank is at least 1/4 fool . That other thing you should know that after you turn it on...., it takes about 20 to 40 seconds to get going. Yes, it works on diesel fuel, it takes from the fuel tank. Yours is in bad condition, I have to say. But jah , if your unit is connected properly it should run. The RESET button you showed it to get blower motor blowing some warm air inside the cabin wile you standing in the parking lot and engine is OFF , and key is in 1 position (as long is the engine warm is ) it will turn off by them selfs. Hopefully it will work out for you.
