Lol, imagine how many people weren't ready for it back in 1979
in '79 people knew what satire was... only in 2020 are people this retarded.
Back when this song was released the 12 year old me loved it, but being Swedish my English skills weren't good enough yet to understand all the lyrics.
And I also was way too innocent, lol!
Luckily my parents didn't understand English language, otherwise they probably had stopped me from listening to this record.
@@ketse9251 He got banned from almost every radio station in the USA when this first came out.

When a Zappa fan introduces a newbie to Frank, they know they have a few different options.
Whoever had you do this one knew exactly what they were doing. There are no accidents in Zappa.
And Bobby Brown Goes Down is a pretty heavy introduction to Zappa, lol.
And zappa was a shit clown
could be worse, could have been Jewish Princess....
The truth is what it is! Frank Zappa put this out to warn people of a deranged jerk who lived a degenerate life in public.
I like dinah moe humm as an introduction lol
According to Frank Zappa, this sing is about an interviewer he encountered in his hotel room in 1977. Apparently the Engishman was asking Frank about his stance on feminism and using derogatory words to impress the female companions he brought with him. This song is an assumption of the interviewers sleazy character in Frank's mind.
He was always targeting sleazy, shit-ass men with his satire. Even when it's gross, his targets were still well chosen.

They can't think past their nose, much less understand the virtuosity of Zappa. Anyone that ever seen him play live would know. He also played every instrument in all his music and taught the band how he wants it played. Listen to Terry Bozzio, thats hre he got started... along with many great performers.
Zappa was Weird Al's favorite performer. Obviously, Al took the the safer route!🤣
Musically you cannot compare the two Frank Zappa was a real musician.

Thank you, Frank Zappa. He fought for freedom of speech. He fought for freedom of speech when he went before Congress.
As George Carlin said, if you do not like it, turn it off or change the station.
Frank Zappa was commenting on the music and radio industry with the song Bobby Brown Goes Down. As you can tell, he did not like many of the people who worked in the music industry.
Yup Frank Zappa and Dee Snider from Twisted Sister liberated and paved the way for basically all the popular music today...

I once put Joe’s Garage album on for my Mum and Dad to listen. Mum was so shocked by Frank Zappa but Dad almost wet himself laughing 😂
He IS being ironic. Plus, political correctness was not a thing when that album was made.
Yep, we actually had a bit of freedom of speech left back then. Somewhere since then we forgot that we don't have the right to not be offended. Being offended is a choice one makes.
It's not even about political correctness, it's about having balls to laugh at the expense of those who are privileged.

You have no idea of how nasty this rabbit hole is. Watching your reaction to this was priceless.
Although humour is present in much of Zappas music, this isn’t really a joke-song, it’s more of a dis-track, against unnamed individuals. Eg, with the “rape” thing he is calling out certain creeps.

I truly think the definition of WTF is Frank Zappa.
Fell in love with this as a teenager in the 70s. I am amazed I still know all the words. Provocative, and yes, ironic as hell. Also, predates Weird Al.
Bobby Brown is the story of an A and R executive who use to brag to Frank and the band about his experiences. These are Bobby's experiences done tongue in cheek but it's about a real guy.
"don't fool yourself, girl..."
It's so funny. Great satire. In Sweden this was a big hit! Couples in love danced the last dance at the disco to this. I guess they didn't really get the lyrics. To us that did it was hilarious! 😁
Huge hit in Germany too
Ha! Yes in France aussi! So fucking funny when it's played at like weddings because it's got a good melody. LoL. I miss Frank.

Hilarious reaction. I knew that was coming, I’ve known that song since it first came out.
Frank Zappa was one of the true American champions of free speech. He was among the leaders of the fight to preserve the First Amendment against the idiocy of Vice President Al Gore’s wife Tipper, who probably did as much to destroy the Constitution as any other living American.
Funny thing, back in high school in 1981 or so, my girlfriend at the time went on a trip to Germany. At a party with some German students someone put this on and they started dancing to it. Apparently, this song clocked in at #4 on the German charts and the single sold 250,000 copies. What she figured out is that the words didn't really register with them. She brought the single back with her and that was my introduction to Frank Zappa.
well Zappa was a household name since he burned down a gambling house in Switzerland...
Yeah, a lot of people wouldn't even want to comment on this track, especially nowadays. That being said, this track isn't really about the musicality but the humor. I don't know the full story, but I always assumed this Bobby Brown character was some kinda' pent-up, spoiled rich conservative type who was a real freak in his personal life.
I grew up listening to this man thanks to my father. Zappa was an abstract musical genius that spent his career making music that mocked all serious performers. It's meant to be offensive, and I enjoyed watching you see through that.
Agreed! I enjoyed seeing that as well! Not only was it meant to be offensive, It was also meant to expose the complete and utter immaturity and hypocrisy of modern society. he said it again and again, "THEY'RE JUST WORDS! "
He was a genius musically, and lyrically he was also, but he sang from other people's point of view. Randy Newman does the same thing.
Frank Zappa was a Musical Genius....this entire album is off the charts....still have original vinyl.....
your face was simply priceless, totally cracked me up.
Her facial expressions? Priceless 😆 🤣
Frank Zappa + No Filter + No Drugs + No Wasting Life + live life at all cost = Owning it.
Bobby Brown was a critic who sabled down Zappa, so Zappa wrote this song as a "thank you"
Well, that was a symphony of facial expressions! Frank could also be serious and even lyrical at times, but 'Bobby Brown' is quite the sudden introduction to his music.
Fun fact: One of his albums got a parental advisory sticker. The kicker? It was an instrumental album.
the story I heard about this song was, that he had a bet with someone that he could write a song nasty as it can be and it would still be popular. He won. That the reason for the last line, I guess.
This song was hugely popular in Europe. It's still the ONE song radio stations still play ... too funny.

HAHAHAHA. You're right, it's not a joke. Frank doesn't joke, he merely holds a mirror up to society. Hell, we elected Bobby Brown to be president..
Remember, the Electoral College elected him. I had nothing to do with it.
“He’s like the offensive version of Weird Al”. Excellent line, I pretty near lost it at that moment. I just had to sub to hear more one lines similar to that. Love your voice to boot.
It's a two way street with ZAPPA. I've been on his side of it for 48 yrs . Glad you like the neighbourhood. Peace.
Frank Zappa John Denver and Dee Snider testified before Congress when they were debating on if there should be a rating system on published music. Those testimony are available on the tube. Frank showed up in a tailored three piece suit with styled hair . Appearances make an impression. John Denver showed up in what we would call today as business casual and apologised for his appearance before testimony. Dee snide essentially showed up with stage makeup and dress. Dee Snider is the singer for twisted sister. Ripped jeans, hair past the shoulder length , makeup,. And a completely foul mouth. He read a statement that immediately slighted the wife of one of the interviewers. Tipper Gore the wife of Albert Gore junior. It is interesting to see how the senators and congressmen assumed what the testimony would contain. John Denver delivered a very effective statement for why censorship or a rating system is a bad idea. Frank did pretty well on why it was dangerous to allow a wife of a senator to decide what the public is allowed to hear. Interesting to see. You should check it out. Not necessarily a review subject but it effects your income stream regardless.
Trust me, as a Black Man, Ive seen that look hundreds of times. Back then, I would play Zappa for my ladies. ScribeCash's reactions were moderate. Sistas gave it that stink face look and called him a pervert and freak. Not knowing that this man has written classical compositions that world orchestras begged to perform.
This song fits perfect in the total concept of the "Joe's Garage" album(s).
And the concept of Joe's Garage fits perfect in 2020.
The central scrutinizers are watching us.
Frank's dad was a military industrial complex worker, as was ALL the music stars from the 60s! They were telling you what they KNEW was coming down the pike, and HERE WE ARE!

Last part of song:
[guy giggling] ".....I don't know, you'd be surprised!..."

Yes, you heard right.....That's why Frank Zappa never really made it to the popularity of so many rock bands, in the 70's and ever..
nor did he wish to
Super popular in Norway in the 80s until we started to understand English 🤣
Oh, you've just broken the ice! You must continue!

Watching your face was priceless. Seriously, the innocence encountering Frank for the first time - I felt like giving you a hug.
Thank you so much for this - you've made my day! 😊 I absolutely loved the absolutely unique Frank Zappa - and yes, he commented on all kinds of stuff and didn't compromise. There is less controversial (particularly nowadays - I think fans just 'got him' in the 70s/80s while mainstream often stayed away) material for you to try. Maybe try Cosmik Debris or Stinkfoot off the Apostrophe album. The torture never stops and Wind up working in a gas station are another 2 of my favourites. One of my favourite lines in a song is his 'I lost control of my body functions
on a roller-headed lady's front lawn' (from Wonderful wino). I miss Frank, definitely a genius and a mean old guitarist and composer too. love from the uk, stay safe xx
I am the 500th "like".
I'm not sure I like her reaction, but I want more people to hear Zappa and have their own reaction to it, regardless of how I feel about it.
My very unimportent meaning: I Love you! Your Outraged, your Empathy, and your Hidden Love!
This is the best reaction I've ever seen!
"Golden shower" LOL
Your face was priceless... ~lol~ I've seen Frank over 50 times live and there are many other songs I'd like to see you react too ~lol~
Zappa "stink foot" or "disco boy" both pretty funny
Please research the meaning behind the song and why it was written. This will throw a whole different light on it .... Thank you
Because of his songs' weirdness, far to many people missed the fact that Zappa was a musical genius and virtuoso, who didn't just write music, but was actually a composer who was able to write the music for every instrument in an orchestra. His guitar playing is often overlooked, but he was an incredible guitarist. Over the years, his band members were some of the most amazing musical talents who would become legends on their own, like Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio, George Duke, Chester Thompson, Vinnie Caliuta, among many others.
He was a composer, first and foremost. Awesome guitarist and lyricist. Great front man.
Please note, when people are talking about "Yellow snow", it's not the 2 min track, but the 11 min suite that's the actual suggestion. You should never play just the first track by itself, that's like watching the first 20 minutes of a movie and then just stop.
Unbeatable musicians with the funniest lyrics you'll ever hear in your life. Zappa will twist your mind in a good way (permanently). No room to be politically correct or easily offended. This is legit. Enjoy the ride.
wow, you really jumped into the deep end of that pool! I hope you had your floaties on!
Yup....old Frank had a foul mouth outside of this song, and you could always expect something weird from him, too. Still, he was a creative genius.
Your initial reaction to this song is simplyy priceless
More Zappa? Absolutely! Maybe try something like Montana or Inca Roads next.

One of the greatest musical geniuses in history.
I remember this song very well. German stations played Bobby Brown over and over again. Either they did not understand the lyrics, which I doubt, but at least they pretended not to understand them. In the mid 80`s I had a guy from Oakland (a well known drummer - I won´t give his name though) as guest in my house. He could not believe what he heard on the radio during breakfast and got really upset. He later thought we had pranked him, but we hadn´t. A later found out that Bobby Brown was frequently aired in most of Europe, and it still is. The most bizarre scene I remember from that song was hearing it emitting from a middle class "dancing school" in which middel class teenagers tried hard to make contact with member of the opposite camp, so to speak. All extremly formal and stiff. I peaked through the window and watche dthem dance "foxtrott" to Bobby Brown. I was their age (around 15) but my english was much better, and hey - not much language skill needed to make a save guess what most of the lyrics meant. ;-) Just imagine German teenagers with a stick up their spine dancing cheek to cheek to "Thanks to Freddie, I'm a sexual spastic" :-D
That was the time when we looked up to you guys in the US. The time when you had critical srtists like Zappa and Carlin and the like. What has happened since?
Hey there, people, I'm Bobby Brown
They say I'm the cutest boy in town
My car is fast, my teeth are shiny
I tell all the girls they can kiss my heine
Here I am at a famous school
I dressin' sharp and I'm acting cool
I've got a cheerleader here
Wants to help with my paper
Let her do all the work
And maybe later I'll rape her
Oh God, I am the American dream
I do not think I'm too extreme
And I'm a handsome son of a bitch
I'm gonna get a good job and be real rich
(Get a good, get a good, get a good, get a good job)
Women's liberation
Came creepin' all across the nation
I tell you, people, I was not ready
When I fucked this dyke by the name of Freddie
She made a little speech then
Oh, she tried to make me say when
She had my balls in a vice but she left the dick
I guess it's still hooked on but now it shoots too quick
Oh God, I am the American dream
But now I smell like Vaseline
And I'm a miserable son of a bitch
Am I a boy or a lady, I don't know which
(I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder)
So I went out and bought me a leisure suit
I jingle my change but I'm still kinda cute
Got a job doing radio promo
And none of the jocks can even tell I'm a homo
Eventually me and a friend
Sorta drifted along into S&M
I can take about an hour on the tower of power
As long as I get a little golden shower
Oh God, I am the American dream
With a spindle up my butt 'til it makes me scream
And I'll do anything to get ahead
I lay awake nights, sayin', "thank you, Fred"
Oh God, Oh God, I'm so fantastic
Thanks to Freddie, I'm a sexual spastic
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now, I'm goin' down
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now, I'm goin' down
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now, I'm going down
Yeah, I knew you'd be surprised
this girls face is priceless

Really enjoyed your reactions @scribecash !!! Like when we first heard for ourselves, for instance, Montana from Overnight Sensation in the uptight mass media of the 70's!
Interesting that this generation is discovering Frank. Their reactions are fascinating, some get knee jerk offended while others actually think about what his saying and get that he was first and foremost a social commentator who pointed out inequity. I've yet to see anyone react to "Jewish Princess" though. Now that will be interesting.

I remember so well when I heard this song the first time! It was 1981 in tropical Australia at a bar on Magnetic Island. Lot's of people walking past stopped in their tracks. Late that night I went for a skinny dip with an sweet English girl. Unfortunately the tide had gone out and we never found enough water.
