On November 7th, 2024, this game received an update. The big change here is that the Special Forces don't fire their guns nearly as often, so the stun locking isn't as likely to happen. HOWEVER, they did not remove the fact Frank CAN be stun-locked by them. So if the Special Forces appear in more than 2 or 3, or if the fail-safe fails, you'll still be combo'd. They are also less accurate, as they'll sometimes fire off into the side.
The game adds a casual mode (because apparently, the game wasn't easy enough for some people) that increases PP from all sources by 40%, doubles Frank's health, and reduces Psychopath Health by about 40%. No Hard Mode was added.
The game's lighting seems to be better, so the shadows aren't quite as over-pronounced. The art style and color palette are unchanged, though.
Melee combat is slightly improved, as Frank's aim assist with melee weapons is more reliable. However, the animation issues and lower attack speeds have not been fixed.
Although not labeled in the patch notes, I think they adjusted Kent to not spam his charge move as often. He was noticeably less toxic in my testing.
Everything else is bug-fixing. While good, it doesn't actually change much from what was said in this review. If you loved this like STIPO or Ghenry did, you'll be happy with this. This update won't change your mind if you didn't (like me).

The religious defense of this game kills me. Its not even new, its got the exact same structure as the original, but they tweaked just enough to be the vastly inferior version. This stupid obsession with this being a "NEW" Dead Rising isn't going to last. Give it a few years, when the game isn't new anymore the consensus will be that the original is timeless and this remaster was just a low budget cash grab.

I was honestly on board with a lot of this remaster until I saw the AI assets. Now I dont have a blind hatred of the use of AI like some people, in fact I think using AI to lay out the groundwork for creating/upscaling textures is a great thing because it lets an artist just focus on refining and cleaning up the areas where the AI messed up.
But when you cant even be bothered to hire someone to go in and do that last part then you just lose me. How the hell could ANYONE look at some of those textures, see the absolute mess that its become and think "good enough"?
I know its kind of a silly thing to be my breaking point but it just shows me that they dont actually care about the little details in a game that is revered for being filled to the brim with them. Why even bother?

This video was hell to make, and several things went wrong along the way. Hopefully, after 9 years, it will have been worth the wait.

The reason they made this game is because dead rising 4 killed the game. A this point, Dead Rising 5 would take you to fucking space and save us all from nazi zombies, and I definitely did NOT want to see Chuck anymore after how they handled him and his daughter in 3

    • @Hi_Just_Fred
      @Hi_Just_Fred 29 днів тому +1

@@somethingelse9087 we do actually know what DR5 would have been, which is a prequel to 3&4 set in a Hispanic village starring chuck and a slightly older Katey (younger than she was in 3 but older than 2)
And while there wasn't nazis from what I can tell, one of the bosses did have a cyborg arm and they gave Katey the ability to control zombies with telepathic powers because of her infection... For some reason.
How they would have explained the lack of this in 3? No idea.
But yeah even with jokes aside, DR5 would have been another rough dumb entry in a series that threw more and more of it's tone out the window. I feel bad for the devs, because those working on the games knew it was a mess and ideas higher ups pitched were where most of the stupidity came from. But yeah Capcom Vancouver was a real mess of a studio as time went on.

    • @Banshee523
      @Banshee523 29 днів тому +3

@@Hi_Just_Fred It wouldn't have necessarily had to follow the original concept for it from Vancouver, they've been defunct for a long time at this point. I would've been more interested to see a game developed in house in Japan. But it seems Capcom doesn't think Dead Rising is worth that. Which is fair enough I suppose, I'm not opposed to a series ending if the alternative is slop. It doesn't really help that zombie media in general peaked in popularity over a decade ago at this point.

Between that and some of the... other problems, it makes me glad I've become rather tight-fisted with my money on games. And hearing that the PC version is a mess is disappointing. The PC port of the original had its problems, but it ran consistently and smoothly enough to put up with input delay and the clunky way it handled alt+tabbing, giving me a nostalgic trip back down memory lane when I got off Xbox.

My issue with DRDR is that Capcom literally released an unfinished build and almost no one is talking about it. According to SteamDB we are playing the same beta build from augest that was used in previews, months out of date and it has none of the fixes or polish shown in the launch trailer. To this day there is still no patch, everyone is playing a beta build still with months of development time excluded.
Seems obvious that the game was meant to come out in November with the physical release, and the sept 19 release for digital was just a marketing gimmick. Hurt the first impressions of the game pretty bad for me, tutorials even have placeholder images of early graphics.
This is a far bigger issue than more trivial complaints like censorship. People have given Capcom a free pass on making DRDR an unannounced early access game. Sucks because DRDR is still good enough I would never play OG again, but the first impression is absolutely tainted as someone who has played the game since 2006.

a lot of what i saw being talked about were things i would personally put aside if the game met my own expectations, (stuff like voice acting, censorship, etc,) but being able to see things i do care about, such as presentation, gameplay changes and additions be somewhat underwhelming definitely brought me to reality. seeing just how brown and hard to see the art-style had become kinda made me frown, since i think the og 2006 game is one of my fav art-styles of any game, and still holds up really well today given the limitations imo. i still would like to try this remaster for myself to see what i think eventually, but i am glad to see really good criticism and what to expect when i finally get around to trying it.

I’ve been waiting this video since I picked up the game. I was super hyped for the game when this was first released, and seeing some footage, everything looked great. Then I played it and…there were a lot more adjustments than I thought, and those weren’t a good thing.
Since then I finished the game and I don’t think I’ve been this mixed on a game in a while. For every new/good change or adjustment I liked, there’s like two changes I didn’t like. And I got this from one stream/play session of the game, not even making it to day two.
I was really looking forward to this review because most of the time playing this, I thought I was crazy or being an insistent nitpicker noticing some differences. And watching this video, I’m surprised of the things I didn’t see and the stuff I did was only the tip of the iceberg.
I’m a huge fan of the OG, played it a ton so much that it became one of my favorites. But playing this? Just disappointed me on the things they could’ve added (a mission mode like Chop till you Drop, more costumes, more stores, more weapons) compared to what they actually added (survivor hints, dialogue changes, and a voice cast not as good as the original).
You were on the money about this being for newer audiences than experienced vets of the game. I gifted the original to a friend and he struggled a bunch. Not even with the survivor AI but just everything like using the camera, taking books, or using weapons and whatnot. He watched me play this Remaster and thought all of it was overall better, which I can’t fault him entirely over.
So thanks for this video. I’m glad there’s someone who noted a lot/all of the changes they made, aside from the surface level stuff. I will say some are fine to change, but a lot of it was unnecessary. It’s kinda to a point that, unless it is a huge overhaul that combines the quality of two games (or 4 counting both DLC Cases) to one, I’ll pass if they did a Deluxe Remaster of the sequel. Not unless they really did that game justice. I’m just overall underwhelmed by this Remaster. I loved some of Capcoms remakes and their output lately. So it was disappointing they made such a mixed bag of a remaster.
(Apologies for the long comment, I had a lot to say about this remaster and wanted to say some stuff about it.)

I only like two things in DRDR: the ability to skip through the damn Otis calls and fast-forwarding during the infinity mode.
Ugh, Capcom’s (or in this instance, Crapcom’s) laziness and their intense greed has unfortunately been the norm this decade with their overuse of photogrammetry and shameless asset reuse in their “realistic” RE remakes/reimaginations. Now we’ve to worry about censorship, trigger warnings, AI assets along with their usual questionable DLCs cut from the main game, and the obscene micro transactions.

When you jump as Frank it feels like you are actually floating and the "weight" is just gone completely.
Theres so many bugs at launch it feels very rushed and i don't like how Brad sounds monotone 24/7 regardless of context. They also used AI art in the game everywhere it looks very weird.
Capcom's inability to get Frank's look right since 2006 is mind boogling and the devs even said "hes a middle age man" for the videos of DRDR. Just make him look like himself ffs. TJ not coming back is dumb and they didn't even ask him because they don't want to pay the extra cash. Their excuse for not bringing back voice actors was a dumb one and makes no sense.

Seeing this "remake" though, I knew it was cursed from the very first screenshots. Its so sad to see Capcom outsourcing their IP's once again, after what seemed like was a wake up call starting with RE 2 Remake. On the topic of RE games, I really liked RE 2 Remake but from the very first play through I knew it wasn't real RE 2 as well, being a nerd that watched crap ton of prototype and alpha Resident Evil games footage, I knew that they just lazily rehashed RE 1.5 and cut out the zipping system and called it a Remake. I was even willing to look past the, in my opinion brilliance of fixed camera angles in horror games, and zoomer's tears for having to learn tank controls. Remakes are sadly a creative murdering slop that new gamers are willing to gobble without a single thought, while not caring about franchises. And seeing this crap come out of under Capcoms name is just sad, considering that to this day only one Remake in video game's history was done proper, perfect even. It being Resident Evil 1 Remake, made by Capcom out of all the people...

    *Makes popcorn and gets Soda*
My first point for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster being made to me was to test to see the validity of the RE Engine's ability to handle many things on screen so I already knew going in its release was more of the arbitrary re-release then a proper Remaster.
Presentation points seem to make sense and it even reveals points that are not initially well known like AI being used for some textures.
Censorship the reason people shrug it off, because they look at it as not a big deal in comparison to the games QOL improvements. My problem with it is it creates unneeded abrasion with old fans of the game, and it to me just makes the game less to the original. Yet as we all know the game has many elements that if were talking about taste that ship has already sailed and also this is an M rated game I think your points do it more justice then I can type here. But I do know if you give companies an inch they will take a mile so prepare for more games in the future to be even more censored making M rated feel more like E for everyone because the "Modern Audience" cant apparently tolerate anything.
The problem with Performance on PC Jake is its subjective, because peoples rigs are wildly different its hard to tell if peoples problems are cause of the game or because of there rig/drivers so take PC performance with a grain of salt. I have thought that the less zombies were done to make the game easier but its hard to tell if its difficulty or if its performance related could be one could be both. I do know on PC the game has the option to change the amount of Zombies on screen but its still less then the original on the max setting.
Alot of QOL changes make the game much nicer to go through but to returning players the new content is meager but if your a new player its a much easier game to handle but I do agree they could have added much more to this game.
The Level up system and game being SO much faster and easier I assume this was done to compensate for one thing and one thing alone. You see most get the idea of if your struggling just carry your levels to a 2nd run through and beat the game on that in the OG, you can still do it in the remaster, but its clear they wanted to make it so beating the game from level 1 is actually a doable thing and not a hellish experience if your new. Like you said this change was done specifically to cater to new comers at the expense of long time players because now the game to long time players is essentially easy mode. There is still hard moments but the original is a landslide where difficulty is concerned. The problem is it invalidates EVERY SINGLE PP book in the game because you'll max out before you beat the main game. Okay not entirely but all they do now is they make it so you reach Level 50 faster so there is no beneficial long time point to carry them where as before carrying them means you'll be a higher level before you reach the end of the game.
Overall the game was designed to cater to the lower common denominators in terms of skill in new players and so Capcom can test the RE engine in other more unique conditions not that its a bad game but I feel that more polish and improvements can fix the game, and expand it. I also don't like the price being quintupled from the original when nothing of value gameplay wise outside of QOL changes, fan service, and graphical fidelity was added. Alot of people like it for the ease of access so we get a lot of new positive opinions but to long time players it fails to hold the original energy the original game had resulting in many older players ribbing the game for what it fails to achieve that the original did perfectly fine. If you want to play Dead rising 1 the "Deluxe Remaster" is perfectly fine if you want a modern iteration that's easier to delve into with Dead Rising 1 but if you want the original experience maintained, the game you should stick to is the original because the "Deluxe Remaster" fails to uphold that in many areas its also way cheaper then the "Deluxe Remaster".
I am just glad Capcom lets you buy the original and didn't delist it like Rockstar so they can ham fist the GTA Trilogies Dysfunctional edition onto you.

1:05:19 this game has the same problem oblivion was mock relentlessly for where when talking to a non player character they’ll have a voice actor for dialogue unique to them. But when they spout generic dialogue shared with other characters it will also be voiced by the person who recorded that dialogue. So with Ross here if you compare his voice when your talking with him during the scoop to the line of dialogue he just said right here it’s clearly a different person voicing him which breaks all consistently and immersion.

Also that window breaking anymation was absolutely terrible and looks so much worse than in the original.

Finally hearing someone not immediately praising the hell out of the original dead rising just because they hear others said it's good. The game has a lot of good things going, but I also find playing dead rising 2/3 more enjoyable, 1 does have a couple of problems, especially the survivor A.I. No amount of "this game is good play it man" is gonna sugercoat that A.I.

Not a remaster, don't know why Crapcom called it that. It's DR1, but with all-new assets in a new engine. That's a remake, unlike RE2/3/4 which are re-imaginings, which even Capcom admitted in their 2022 Summer showcase.

I've been a fan of the original Dead Rising since I was learning my ABC's. It was always a major part of my childhood, being the only game I really ever played on my 360 before I moved to PC, and now that I'm 18 and I get to re-experience all of that again, but with the capacity to truly appreciate it just after I'd gotten back into the series, I couldn't not pre-order the game. I was ecstatic over it, even when hearing about Larry's redesign and Cliff's altered dialogue, even after hearing about the new VA's (I especially did not like Sean and Brad), even though the muted and sometimes blinding graphics looked weirdly out of place compared to the colourful original. I just wanted to see my favourite timeless game be touched up and given the benefits of modern lighting and graphics technology.
That being said, it didn't disappoint me nearly as much as you make it out in this video. I'm not particularly sure if this is due to my youth at the time, but I still had very fond memories of the game. Asides from 5 Day Survivor, I virtually 100%'d the original when I was little. I never found the censorship to be much of a problem, even if it conflicted with the game's themes and narrative. The survivors' cringy dialogue bits were ignorable for the most part, though I will admit that it sucked some of the charm out of finding things yourself. I actually found the zombies to be incredibly frustrating to play against, partly because their grabs were much less forgiving than in the original, especially during Infinity Mode, though I did have a lot of moments chuckling at the various visual bugs (some zombies literally go flying when you kill them from a distance and they're in the air). I can however agree how absolutely tedious the special forces are, especially with their inclusion in Infinity Mode which I will get into shortly, and I really wish they did more with Cletus, the Hall family, even Larry and Carlito 3 (Bomb Collector) to a degree. I also hated how Frank's movement was changed, I much preferred the responsive and instant velocity that he had when starting into a run or turning around. It made hiding against bosses like Carlito 2 (Save the Professor) or the Hall family nigh impossible.
The real problem for me though was Infinity Mode. I cannot believe they left it in the state that it is, because the only time that the game crashed was right as I'd unlocked 5 day survivor. I was going through Al Fresca into the Food Court, when suddenly it completely froze and a crash report came up. The way they handle the saves in Infinity Mode, I assume to prevent save scumming, is that if you exit the game prematurely at any point, whether through a crash or a deliberate close, it will completely erase the file you were using to play, meaning all of your progress, achievements and what-not that you gained are eradicated. I found a way past this eventually, thanks to one steam comment telling me how to preserve your Infinity Mode save, but it genuinely discouraged any kind of engagement I could've had with the mode until then. The player should not have to find a bypass around the game's own systems just to play the game. Additionally, the special forces absolutely SUCKED, especially on one run I had where Kent decided to spawn in the warehouse and absolutely kicked my ass, while I also had to juggle Kay constantly chasing after me, and also take out the 4+ soldiers roaming around who could stun lock me, and also worry about the zombies whose grabs are incredibly unfair. That was the only time I ever 'illegitimately' save scummed, because that fight absolutely tore me apart (even with the infinite durability book and the heavy machine gun) and there was no way I could've done that on my first try.
Side note as well, one incredibly hilarious (and equally sad in hindsight) moment I had during the game was with the Sean fight. For context, Sean is one of my favourite bosses of all time, certainly my favourite of the series (sorry Adam fans). He's just incredibly versatile, requires your full attention and your reaction time to be on point, and punishes you appropriately if you mess up, all while having INCREDIBLY awesome aesthetics and build-up, and the reward being one of my favourite weapons to use in the entire game makes the fight actually worth doing, on top of having 5 rescuable survivors who are incredibly close to the security room and do not need to be assisted.
Now, imagine that, but instead of all of that charm, all of that mystique, all of the difficulty of his fight, he just suddenly barrels out of the room as I leave and into Frank, never attacks and keeps pushing him in a specific direction forever waiting for you to kill him, all while spouting random one-liners that make him sound like he's nearing a climax ('The time for judgement has come!'). Yep, that happened on my FIRST playthrough, and I absolutely cracked up. I cannot believe a bug to this absurdity in one of the most iconic and built-up fights of the entire series could ever exist, but it at least made for a good laugh. That's how I no-hit Sean on my first run.

The last good remake was Fire Emblem 2 / Fire Emblem Gaiden. That's it. People complain about the HD era taking away something from games but the post-HD era, with the 1080ps and 4Ks, the two console generations of PS4-5 to say, have been catastrophic. And remakes just got the brunt of it as many other games and genres did.
But who cares, more games, what a time to be alive, amirite?

Honestly while I do love the remake, I do agree with alot of what you said in the vid. Some of what you said I don’t agree with but a good chunk I do agree with and honestly am happy your bringing up valid criticisms with the game.
Honestly is the game flawed? Oh yes
Could they have done better? Yes
Are there missed opportunities with what they could of added or did with the game? Yes
Do I think the game is still worth buying and playing? Honestly yes.
Despite all of the good and frankly legitimate criticisms you have bought up with the remake of dead rising, I still think the game is worth buying and playing since it still is an enjoyable and fun game at the end of the day.
Even if personally I think they should of capped the pride of the game at 40 bucks max.

Agreed. The game has a lot of quality-of-life improvements, from the autosaves and improved survivor AI to more fluid controls. Censorship and lack of new content aside, I can appreciate this new interpretation of a classic game. It opens up the game to new audiences, which I think is the main purpose of this release. As classic as DR1 is, it has not aged the best in some aspects, most of which the remaster addresses.

Especially since as much as I love the original dead rising as well, let’s not pretend it has not aged horribly and frankly does have alot of flaws as well. Which is why I do view the remaster and original on equal footing. Both dames do stuff right and have issues but in the end are still fun to play

I played the original back in the day and I still own it, the Deluxe Remaster at least for me was good I had a lot of fun, probably if a friend ask me which one they should buy depending on how that person is, I'll point them at the Deluxe Remaster version if I know they only play new stuff and they have no patience, however if they were active gamers back in the 2000s or before, Dead Rising 2006 still the best choice.
