Glad they came back to Kenya, and even more glad they managed to keep its character while cutting it down to fit the modern style wrc itinerary.
I remember in early 80’s tv/specials the African safari was the ultimate in rallies . I’m 46 now and I’ve been a rally lover ever since , group B was my first love and still is . Safari is the most harsh, rigorous in my opinion the true test for rally cars. The terrain and weather conditions are not normal to any other region on earth & when rain strikes it could be flash flood conditions in seconds
hallo age mate am 46 too ,that was the best rally ever we could sleep on the road side at the wee hours of the morning in the slopes of Mount Kenya waiting for the cars

There's just simply nothing like the safari...yes you got to use your brains but you've also got to have some luck.
Petition to make the safari "special" . Maybe the cars to be made more tougher or different tougher modified cars and make it the full length as the 80s?

We used to see 'safari special' rally cars in the previous decades. Cars that looked massively different to their standard rally counterparts. Same for the old Acropolis rally.
Is it because the cars are so much stronger today that they don't need to be unique?
Which cars were that?
Partly because there's less need for it, but also because the FIA used to grant homologation waivers for the old Safari Rally to allow for more extensive modification. The teams were consulted, but chose not to have the same waivers in 2021 to keep costs down. Most of the teams in the modern Safari Rally will be running the heaviest suspension parts they have available, they'll be beefing up their sump guards, but they can't touch the bodyshell or most of the bodywork. LEDs mean they don't need tons of extra lights. A snorkel would be nice, but modern watersplash systems mean they aren't essential.

That African Asian fella, Mehet is it? He was the genius on the Safari in 1970s/1980s.

That's arabic, it was termed so during the Paris Dakar rally. Hapa kwetu ni vumbi, we don't copy people.
We never used the word fesh fesh when reigning world champion Richard Burns got stuck in metre-thick dust and ultimately retired during the 2002 safari rally. He was furious.
