Bought a UMX Timber X for the first club float fly I was going to and it worked out great! I was the smallest plane there but I had fun and got to fly so it was all good. It was nicknamed Tiny Timber...thanks for the videos!
It's the only plane I've flown so far and I love it. Did a double roll the other night for the first time. Tried to do it again and crashed but it was fine. Might upgrade to something w/ bigger and more consistent batteries next year. Working my way up. Thanks for posting this.
Float Week, awesome addition to the channel. Cool flying little plane. Be nice to see “The Beaver” on floats. Looking forward to seeing more of these float planes. Thanks again for the great video. God bless.
Excellent! I love float flying!!! I've had that little Sport Cub on floats for about 7 years. Great little plane! As for the no wind? Not true. I've flown mine on days when bigger planes couldn't get up. Just need onshore wind. Crest a wave, punch it through the trough and ski jump it off the next crest. Time landing to back of wave coming back to shore. It's fun. Challenging, but fun.
In order to get you plane to role first get slow then increase the angle of attach very rapidly (briskly is the word). Full elevator to induce a stall and then full rudder in the direction that you want to role. Some air planes need aileron input in the same direction of the role. It does not hurt to point directly into the wind and hope for a gust at the same time. It wont role unless one wing is fully stalled and the other has some air moving over it. A blast of throttle as it breaks will sometime pull it around if there is no wind. Recovery is just like recovering from a spin... add throttle, point the nose down and use opposite rudder. With the cub you will lose some altitude but that is the only way I know to role a plane with floats that has limited power. It looks sloppy but it works.
This is my first plane and I can't say enough about how great it is to learn and fly. For under $200, it's amazing. I just bought another one and floats. Can't wait to try it out on water. Just don't try to fly when it's windy!
lol I love your jokes, Nate! Excellent flight and you could tell with the floats it definitely didn't have the 'control' to do a lot. Still a neat little plane.
Yes pumped for float week! Love your content! I just got into the hobby a few months ago and just recently found a Icon A5 new in box at local hobby store and have been flying it off a near by pond great fun! Can’t wait to watch upcoming videos.
uhh... I am impressed... the Twin Otter will most likely be part of that game, but which one can compete too? 🤔I remember... Carbon Cub S and Turbo Timber (X).... i guess... it will be exciting who will make it to the win
I bought the kit for my S2 but took them off. It's a hair to heavy and seemed to mess with the CG a little. As you said it barley taxis while floating too. Looks amazing and getting the floats on was a bit tedious. Glad you had some successful flights! Might have to look for a larger plane with floats/ will be keeping an eye on float week!
Hand launching maybe - resembling an aircraft carrier's catapult!! Thanks for the info - Ill be getting the floats and testing the CG too! I did read that installation was tedious too! FDW
Nice Video - I just recently purchased this model. Now - I'll get those floats - thanks for the demo. Unfortunately - where I am right now on vacation- the nearest lake is in the flight path to a small mountain airport. Hmm - I think this plane is fine for a non- precision landing with the floats in the grass - albeit a little rough - I just love the float plane look - looks so scale! Hats-off to FLOAT PLANE WEEK! FDW
Gorgeous spot to fly or just hang out sobhappy for you guys. I have one of these planes but sadly my son wrecked the proof and they are on back order until any day bow. So amazed at how easy to fly it is compared to planes 15 plus years ago when they were all wood frame skinned planes. The smart mode is a godsend
Is this plane STOL? I need to take off/land in my neighbor’s swimming pool, and there’s Italian cypress planted around their backyard. I may use the hovercraft with a clamping device to pluck the inflated floating toys out of the pool to make more room. The floating giraffe will be a piece of cake! The floating donuts with sprinkles might be a challenge.
The sport Cub doesn’t handle the wind when it’s on floats quite like the UMX turbo timber does, but the floats fit the scale of the sport Cub much better. The slightly larger size of the turbo timber makes it look a little goofy with the floats on.
Thanks to this video, i decided to get into this hobby and bought this plane with the floats. Now to find a suitable body of water and a park in phoenix

I love the floats on my little Cub but be careful on landing because it can flip over. I dried out the plane and got it back up in the air after a few hours. Have canoe nearby.

What do you mean no steerable rudder? Nate said the same thing but the rudder is clearly moving (then Nate says "rudder input is actually very helpful"). If not he would not be able to steer the airplane on the water at all. Do you mean a steerable rudder in the water like a boat has? It has no rudder in the water at all.
