I was very fortunate to see Bernard Petters in Concert several years ago and she is so Insanely Talented!! At one point during her show she came down into the Audience through the Isle and as she passed by me she Winked right at me!!! Would go see her any day!! Also RIP Sondheim! Love all his Gorgeous Musicals!
Unfortunately, I have never heard anything about this singer and even not the composer (rip). So thks to your reaction, good as always, I have learnt something. The sound of her voice remembered me to a typical musical voice and it seems to be, that Bernadette learned this job (musical : singing, acting, dancing) very early in her career. That is what my ears recognize. Beautiful.
I listen to this rendition all the time! Its been on my eternal playlist for years. I love this song and I love her interpretation! It just gets in my soul! She is iconic!

When I was a junior in high school (1989) I had the pleasure of seeing Sweeney Todd at the Circle in the Square theater in New York City. It is the only Stephen Sondheim work that I have ever seen live, but it was enough to make me a fan for life.

I love Bernardette's voice, it's just gorgeous. I first listened to her thanks to the Animaniacs show where she voiced Rita, so to this day if I close my eyes while listening to her I still can see Rita singing

I would put Steven Sondheim, Jonathan Larson and Lin-Manuel Miranda in a category, beautiful songs but very lyrically heavy. I love all of their works, but it takes at least 2 watches/listens to even understand all of the lyrics. But they grow on me, and the tunes get stuck in my head, even when I don't know the lyrics.

Maybe you are the voice teacher/coach on youtube who will hear my plea. More Broadway please and let's go past the inevitable Dear Evan and Hamilton etc that so many of your colleagues actually do. Lets also look at the voices, the performances of those on whom this generation stand. Whether its is more classically trained voices like Andrews, Cook, Goulet or Robson, or the unorthodox and untrained like Channing or Mostel, Merman or Brynner, they must have done something right to get to the top and stay there, something we can learn from today. Those clips are sitting on UA-cam either from Tony awards or the Old Ed Sullivan show but nobody with your credentials, with your background is looking no matter who I ask!
