    I bought my range finder for $75 and it has performed amazing! I’ve had it for a little over year and it’s performing right up there with my brothers $300 bushnell. I think a big difference in price probably comes in longevity. The top end rangefinders, like bushnell, should last years longer but we’ll see

    This is the range finder I’ve got and I love it, never had any issues locking on or getting the distance. I wouldn’t spend much on a range finder especially as there are free golf apps which give you yardage, range finder nice to have to reassure you if you’re not confident your app is giving you correct yardage or if the pin has moved.

    Another good way to find a range finder is to look in the hunting section instead of the golf section. The market is saturated more in hunting. Also go to the tennis section for polos, "golf" polos are more expensive just based on the market.

    • @IMKINDOFABIGDEAL13
      @IMKINDOFABIGDEAL13 2 роки тому

      The hunting style rangefinders don’t usually work very well for golf. Do your research because they use different software prioritizing the closest target vs the most distant target. Also a lot of the hunting rangefinders don’t use the small red laser dot and instead use a little square like the old 35mm camera viewfinders. That makes it tough to bounce it off a flag stick. Most hunters are bouncing off of a large rock or tree or an animal which is quite a bit easier than a golf flag stick

    One thing you have to be careful of, marking down the 5 or so yard differences between the expensive and the cheap one does not necessarily mean that the cheaper one is inaccurate. You'd need a perfect measurement to assess their values against.

    Thanks for the great review! I've been wanting to get a range finder for this season, and I think I'll actually pick up one of these inexpensive ones. There was no way I was going to spend $400-$500CDN dollars on a range finder, but I can definitely justify up to $150. I think I may pull the trigger on the AOFAR GX-2S. Not much more than the Dormie and I can have it by tomorrow, haha! Great review once again!
    For those looking for more money-saving golf tips, I picked up the Kirkland Signature gloves to try out. They come in a 4-pack for the price of one premium glove. I just went through my first one after 2 rounds with good warm-up sessions, and another range session, and then a backyard range session. Lasted way longer than the two Taylormade gloves I bought. Longest lasting name-brand glove I've had was a Callaway.

      So, I got my AOFAR GX-2S yesterday and played around with it. It is really nice. Locking onto a target is super fast. I haven't played with the slope setting yet but just did some general target testing and it seems really good. Worth the extra $10CDN. Thanks to SAS Golf for doing the review because I likely never would have considered one of these cheap range finders because I just wouldn't know if they were any good!

    I use a "Boblov" that I got for like 70 quids two years+ ago (I think... Possibly longer, actually... that was some time in 2019 if memory serves). When using the flaglock/vibration feature it's not necessarily super fast but it's definitely accurate, does get a fix quickly if not in the flaglock mode (I indeed take two or three measurements after having hit into the back bushes two or three times at the beginning). Still goes well after all this time, even if I probably play at least 3 times a week. I only have changed the battery once! The only thing I wish it had is a fast flaglock mode and an easy button for slope on/slope off. That said, when I use it for an official competition I deactivate slope going through the menus once and reactivate it when it's finished and nobody ever has really even asked the question of whether that was there (and in all honesty, the slope compensation is more of an "average helping gimmick" as you'll have different effects on different ball flights, spin values and all... comparing with the Bushnell of a friend, mine "compensates" better for me on mid irons than the Bushnell, but the Bushnell does a slightly better job on wedges/short irons... it's also better at shost hit up, and worse at shots hit down... )

Then I bought a a ‘Pro something, or other’ from America (got hit for £60 import duty by UPS when it arrived). That lasted about 18 months before it started giving me wildly varying distances. I range a target (golf flag) the way I was trained to shoot a rifle in the Army.. Using the flag height as 6'.. If I feel a head hold is needed for a center hit - I pull a long iron. If a upper chest hold is required- I pull a mid Iron.. If I can hold dead on - I pull a wedge... There easy peasy ...... Dead on Bro...... The tee shot - Artillery -- Driver or 7 wood........

    • @francoisdesmoulins-lebeaul4273
      @francoisdesmoulins-lebeaul4273 2 роки тому +2

      You really should get one, however, I don't really agree with your distance estimate... Rangefinder "uber accuracy" sure isn't really useful after 220 yards as your (lack of) accuracy is indeed going to be more of a problem than the lack of accuracy of the device. However 150 yards to 200 yards, that's where they're the most useful as it's a type of distance you can be decently accurate at without playing on the PGA tour yet that you'll typically have a hard time eyeballing! You also often need the device for longer stuff, like "Oh, there are trees at the back of that dogleg, do I risk driving into them... zap... 320 yards... OK, I can go at it!" or "... 260 yards, hum... maybe a hybrid or 3 wood would be safer". It's also rather useful for lay up strategies. Like you're 290 from the flag on a par 5 second shot, you're probably not getting there in one, so what do you hit... If you like a 100 to 110 shot into the flag, then you know you should play your 180 yards club. Really quite beneficial.

    • @JTNMax
      @JTNMax 2 роки тому

      I use mine for all yardages. Let’s me know a great layup yard, or how far to end of a dog leg or to a bunker or hazard,etc. it is not just for landing on the green pin high, although that is a bonus on shots to green. I also have the Bushnell app, but it doesn’t know where the pin is. Want to layup 100 yards from the pin on a par 5? The app can be off many yards vs. a good range finder. I also have a Bushnell range finder….those cheap ones are slow and hard to get the pin and I’ve found those to be significantly off. Your mileage may vary.

    I know you trust the Bushnell implicitly for yardages but some of the "cheaper" models are companies getting into the golf market coming from the shooting markets...they need to be accurate too but for me a gps system is better by far
    Why?
    99% of golfers have zero chance of being accurate to 3 yards and if they are which 3 yards will it be..the Bushnell's or another system
    If you have a bunker or hazard you need to zap that and everything else you want to take into account for your shot.
    One look at the GPS (also accurate to 3 yards or less) and i can see front middle and back of the green bunkers streams ponds etc etc etc.
    The other plus is how many people think if a flag is 125 yards away that you need to fly the ball 125 yards. You almost definitely don't...you might want to avoid that water at the back of the green and play to the front or vice versa...if you hit it 125 yards and the green is firm it may bounce and go 8 yards past...maybe the green is receptive and you fly it 125 yards and zip it back off the front of the green.
    And gps comes in so many forms...watches phone apps (I'm not a great fan of these but some people use them as they are cheap/free) or small devices you can carry in your pocket or clip to your bag or trolley etc.
    And yes i have owned 2 Bushnell's in the past but will now only use a GPS.
    Imo cheaper faster better 👍

    Shouldn't be the question, is the extra in quality worth 4/5 of the price? Put some pressure on the business model the brand models have. Let them become more competitive. It seems to me that their prices are on the overpriced range of life.

    My rangefinder is my caddy. She's sexy, knowledgeable and a lot more fun than a Bushnell. If she gets a yardage wrong we have lots of joking and a good laugh about it. Somehow having a chat with a Bushnell doesn't have the same appeal.
