- Nearly two years after I bought Dilly-Dally, we sailed back to Marmaris for a rigg check. In the meantime I have changed and invested a lot in the boat. New sails, davits, solar panels, dinghy and outboard, a modern chart plotter plus AIS, I got rid of the old boring blue bimini, sprayhood and cockpit cushions and changed them into fancy grew ones. But still I was suspicious about the rigg. The pre owner, who was sailing the Moody 425 just for one and a half years, didn't know when they were changed or at least checked the last time. And generally it's said that you should change the stays and shrouds every ten to fifteen years. Okay, that's what the insurances want you to do. But in the past weeks I saw some newer yachts, five to eight years old, with damages in the rigging. I want to feel safe while sailing, especially on our planned long passages, that's why we asked Mustafa from Moss Rigging to survey Dilly-Dally. Why Marmaris? Easy to answer. In the town in the southwest of Turkey are the best workshops for boat maintenance. It turned out what I had expected: Dilly-Dally was probably still sailing with the first stays. That's why we changed all the stays and shrouds, ordered new halyards, serviced the seven winches and the in-mast furling system. Not cheap but in my opinion a good invest. Safety first. Especially when you live on a sailboat.
love your boat. keep up the vids - f/w
Das sieht nach einer adäquaten Alternative zum Israeltörn aus. Cooler, entspannter Erzählstil, mach so weiter ;-)
Hi, I am in the process of purchasing a 425 and would like a guidelie on the cost associated with changing the standing rigging.
Hi Peter, I just sent you a mail with all the details. In total I paid 6300 Euro for complete set of new standing rigging wires, new sheets and halyards, winch service and a Selden In Mast Furler Service. More informations you will find in the mail. Stay safe and fair winds. Jens
