    Well goodness me - an amazing plethora of intellectual content for not just one, but two pubcasts in a row! I'm going to show my age here. The earliest film I remember having an impact on me as a young child was Fantasia, just loved it. The film that scared the bejesus out of me for many many years was the Hound of the Baskervilles - I'm not sure whether it would have been the 1959 (before I was born) or 1968 version, but it had a huge impact on me, and I couldn't walk past our local woods at night without being terrified for many years. Of course, that was when horror films were very psychological, rather than the gore-fests you see these days. Very engaging conversation from Tom, especially when chatting with Jamie about motivation for getting out with the camera, and of course the rest of you chipping in. That is going to have resonated with loads of your viewers I'm sure. Well it did with me anyway. Thanks all for spending the time to put this together, great watch.

    I would agree with Tom & Jamie that you must print. I have gallery on the walls of the staircase. It is a way of improving your photography as well as the memories. I have watched Tom from his very first video, like us all I notice the silver amongst the gold in the hair style.You'll probably be retired before 60, but you will find that running up fells becomes increasingly difficult.
    Hope Tom will appear again as a guest please. Wish you all a merry Christmas. Hiccup!!!

    This was one of your best Pubcasts. I so much appreciated the brutal honesty of Stuart, Adam and Thomas regarding themselves, their photography and business. Very though provoking. Excellent points and leading questions by all the regulars made this one of your best. A great mix of humor and serious conversation. Keep up the good work guys!

    Well, that was fun. Great to see Tom on here and awesome that you joined the 617 Gary.
    I had to laugh at Darren and his comment about keeping other people's prints out of sight. I have Adam's Aspen print hanging in my office at work, next to some of my own prints. People come in and are dazzled by it. I hang my head in shame and tell them it's not mine. lol

    Outstanding Episode. The Printing discussion was worth the price of admission. Seriously, it was a comprehensive and intelligent discussion. Well Done.

    Star Wars and Pet Sematary or The Shining. I love watching you chaps; the banter is great. I've been interested in the 617 Club since Tom went live with it, but I don't know if the fees are worth it as a person living in rural US. Either way, I'm glad you finally got him on. I was literally riveted to the screen because there was so much content that interested me, especially printing your own photos. And the rhythm of the content regarding selling photos, photography styles, and creating for UA-cam generated many questions within me. The one that really bubbled to the surface is about niche. I would love to hear y'all's take on what each of you think about whether or not a photographer and YT creator can be commercially successful (selling prints and getting subs) by driving in all of the available lanes or is it better to stay in a single lane (niche). Anyway, thanks for the content. Much Love.

    Great episode as usual guys , thanks for all the time and effort that must go into this, and for the three pros giving up their time to participate. Printing is something i would like to do but think i need to get myself a new monitor , calibrated before i go down the road of a printer. I like most said here struggle with the motivation but only because of being confined to a certain area if i was free to travel more widely i think i would feel different. Its hard to get motivated revisiting the same areas over and over, as a landscape photographer if you want great images you have to travel to great locations, yes get out and practice your craft in between trips but as most i work full time and just cant get on as many dedicated photography trips as i would like. As someone else said first world problem i guess. Still great fun well done all !

    That was really enjoyable, thanks. It was great to get an insight into Tom's approach and I really liked his advice to 'get out and explore and the pictures will come to you'. I think he covered it in one of his videos a long time ago and it really stuck with me. Also I really like James Burns 'street' photography which is about the compositions but not necessarily people, I have tried it and it works for me. Have a great Christmas everyone.

    Great to see Thomas on the show, I do love a bit of pareidolia. And speaking of hoarfrost, I strongly recommend knee pads when kneeling on rocks in a kilt to photograph those details.
    Calling back to a previous discussion of "What's in My Bag" videos, what I want to know is what is in your bag beyond the obvious and why. For instance I always have trash bags and a magnetic compass but also I've been know to carry a felted gnome.
    I'll have to see if I have anything worthy of entry.

    Good episode lads. Nice to see Tom. I’m with Jamie on Jaws, best film of my childhood. Not with printing though. Cost me a fortune to use my printer, it was always running out of ink. Then I couldn’t give it away.

    End aim of my photography is always the print. Science in itself! But an absolute lifesaver for arranging prints on paper and most economical printing is definitely Qimage. Best software out there and very affordable.

    Aaaaarghh - use a RIP - I use Mirage with the Canon Pro 1000 and print with numerous different papers and their profiles, Really straightforward. It removes the worry of printer drivers and the dreaded Mac AirPrint problem too.

    Jamie, once you print that image half an hour after you come home, what do you do with 99% of the images?

    • @ThePhotographyPubcast
      @ThePhotographyPubcast  17 годин тому

      99% of them sit as digital files on my external SSD….forever! I’ll only print something I am really happy with, due to the costs that were discussed…Jamie

    Great episode as always and another great guest. I have to say, I'm with Sam on investing in a printer. Is the initial outlay worth it when you are only printing an image or two each month? I'm not sure it is.

    • @DarrenKnightPhoto
      @DarrenKnightPhoto 20 годин тому +2

      Printing isn’t a cheap hobby and it’s probably more cost effective to get them sent to a lab, but printing at home is so satisfying. Tweaking the print (small thumbnails) each time it comes out of the printer until you have the brightness and colour just as you like it.
      I would whole heartedly recommend it.

    Biggest struggle with photography? For me it's not motivation but rather access to legit landscape subject matter. I'm not interested in street nor portrait. Woodland would be OK now and then, but our woodlands are mostly nearly pure pine so there's no variety -- Just brown and "nevergreens". It's a ~300 mile drive to the nearest good landscape, so that's my struggle.

    • @DarrenKnightPhoto
      @DarrenKnightPhoto 20 годин тому

      Similar to myself. It’s 280 miles to the Lake District from where I live and my local landscape (even the beaches) do not inspire me and so I shoot wildlife locally and try and travel once a month to the Lakes.
      Have you tried a different genre when staying local?
      Thanks for watching 🍺

    I was waiting for someome to ask Thomas why it is called the 617 club. Anybody know? I would ask TH, but I have emailed him a couple of times with questions over the last few years and I don't want to wear out my welcome. I would like to join, but being in the USA, I don't think the benefits would be there like they are for the locals in the UK.
