Another great Pubcast Gary. I loved every minute of it. The topic about the conditions in the woods on a crappy day that Jamie said about the light, well you could get Daz to put up some scaffolding to the top of a tree and shine a big light on the trees so that Jamie could photograph them lol. Catch you on the next Gary. Atb Tim.
Nice to see Daz back in the Pubcast Chair 😉 and thanks for the mention Gary 🙏...... and Beavertown is a great drink, just don't ask the barmaid if you can drink a beaver as I once did 🤣after a few in the Peak District 🤣
A very amusing show tonight. Darren's product review, his confession, and Jamie's 101. I am looking forward to Gary's review of an e-bike - that essential photography accessory - and then he can sell it
I went out and I'm so glad I did As I'm sure the thousands of others who ventured out in the UK did I watched the aurora do it's thing on the banks of Pontsticill Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons National Park, along with around 150-200 others There was a great, happy atmosphere with many people sharing ideas, tips and compositions Of those assembled the majority were locals up with their phones trying to get a shot or video If this experience, and it was an experience, encourages them to take up photography then that can only be a great thing You could quite clearly make out the differences in colours and shapes with the naked eye Phone cameras and cameras on tripods accentuated what was right in front of our eyes It may not compare with the 'in-person' experience in places like Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland but the results from cameras were stunning
That was a really good watch. I’d really like to say, thank you so much for answering my question so comprehensively. I wondered if it might get glossed over a bit, but not a chance - it was a really informative discussion, so yes, thank you 😊. I must admit, I was out for the aurora, and taking photos, but for me it’s just something that emphasises how insignificant we are against nature. As a few of you mentioned, that might change if I ever get to see them somewhere like Norway or Iceland though. I didn’t rush out to see the comet. Nice to se the chair back Daz.
I am also concerned about Daz and his state of mind , the Gibbs print just pushed me over the edge really ! Stuarts Aurora shot is lovely as he said a simple wide scene with Derwent Water plenty of sky and reflections was simply stunning . Jamies Room 101 , well as someone who has reviewed a couple of products from K&F Concept , i dont see a problem if its products you are happy to use and would genuinely recommend to a friend. I have also turned down products for that very reason. The problem comes , in my opinion, when channels review or are sponsored by products or services that are completely unrelated to photography . No matter how loosely you try and claim they are somehow related to photography. I think this is what Jamie was referring to . Lets face it if a big company came up and offered you a top product you are not going to refuse so where is the line for you ? Another great entertaining watch , well done all !!
Hi Lee, that was the point I was trying to make that a product should be used thoroughly and then adopted as part of their kit before making any recommendations. Review videos are a slippery slope anyway imo! Jamie
Room 101 - anyone who can't post an image to social media without it being attached to a link to watch their latest video , every single time. Take an image for the joy of taking an image, you don't have to video the fecking life out of it. 🤣
I'm in the southern US at 32 degrees north latitude, so seeing aurora is a big deal here. I've actually seen it here a few times, but only three or so in 65 years (I'm an amateur astronomer as well as photographer).
What you need to realise is the majority on social media who took photographs of the aurora are not photographers so we’re over the moon to be able to catch a photograph. I did not know it was happening until my wife not a photographer came and showed it me on her phone, she was over the moon. Our niece whose husband comes from Bergen in Norway has never seen it.
We’re all well aware of that I think 👍 I think the discussion was more focused on serious photographers trying to capture considered / planned images rather than casual photography by people who’ve never seen it
Great pubcast. Loved it as always. Topic. What is the best cheap item for photography that you’ve got, and worst or most disappointing expensive item. Ie best value cheap, worst value expensive.
Absolutely brilliant, watching Gaz squirm and squeal, although uncomfortable for him was priceless..... we luv ya big man. H & S is right, but invaluable for protecting stupid people (and can make them quite wealthy).
Gary I cringed when you was on about room 101 and you mentioned about bloggers starting their blog off with something about workshops, after I had just watched Stuarts blog with his Intro to his latest blog! errr you had better watch it. That Aurora picture was the best I have seen for a long time, I liked it better than the Angel of the North Aurora picture that's doing the rounds....Thanks guys for your time you put into this...
I am still watching and Gary said well done and asking Daz to talk about his extra Gibbs print. I thought I should suggest you talk next time about photographer safety. I watched Dave clambering somewhat awkwardly in his last video! 1 am 77 and a keen hiker landscape photographer and I have noticed a recent decrease in my agility and balance and am becoming a little more hesitant about solo adventures. What do you guys think?
Tbh I've never seen the Aurora everytime when it appears over the clyde . Am garunteed to see hunners of pics .. But hey ho it's what makes them happy ..
Talking about Health and Safety, companies are enforcing it not so much for your safety but to ensure that you can't sue them if you have an accident. Its fear of litigation that's pushing it. On the other side there must be thousands of times that proper equipment saved peoples lives. I had to use a harness in a certain job years ago, hated putting it on, annoying, always climbed carefully with or without it. Changed job ... then found out the super fit guy that replaced me, and a much better climber than me, didn't wear the harness and fell 30 feet, wrecked his back, air ambulanced out. These days, as I get older, making sure I don't fall over is priority number one. Maybe you should be wearing steel toecaps on Pubcast ... because Dave is always treading on people's toes 😆
Love the pubcast... but jesus.... watched Gangs of London on Jamie's recommendation. I like a gritty series but wowser... gruesome isn't the word.... pretty bloody horrific. This is from a fella that watched Sons of Anarchy. Gangs of London makes SoA look like playschool! I'll keep watching now... 😂
I watched a review of a Hassleblad . The guy said he had it for a month .. Yet he couldn't even say that it doesn't have Auto ISO . Then he had the gaul to it does . When i watched a video by an actual owner of it ..he clearly made point of it not having it . ... Another review i watched .. Doing a review of a tripod that had a price tag of 900$ There is no way i'd spend that on a tripod .. Do reviewers think there audience have extremely deep pockets
Nobody is going to mention the sudden acquisition of Hasselblad gear amongst the big names since we are talking free stuff? And there is no way Danson is buying new gear every 6 months. I know he's a self-made man, but I aint buying it. Nobody in landscape photography in their right mind would buy that hassleblad. 15k for body and lens and no weather sealing. I wouldn't have it given. Unless you plan on using a hardcastle camera umbrella and looking like a twat 😂 Even heaton must know that's a hard sell surley
As for gear reviews, there is one photographer who I used to watch, not the greatest in my opinion but a good photographer and almost every other vlog for the last couple of years is a gear review and it made me stop watching him. E-bikes galore, power banks for his van etc etc.
You guys crack me up. Thanks for the pubcast!!
This is one of your best pubcasts!
Hi Gents, another Sunday evening tonic, thanks very much....
Another great Pubcast Gary.

I added this e-bike comment *before* it was mentioned in the show
Stu’s aurora photo was really nice. Incorporating the landscape in that way gets a 👍🏻from me.

Never mind Nick Page, when are you going to get back on it Daz? Landscape or wildlife, I don’t mind. We really miss your videos.
That’s really kind bud 🍺🍺

This was a cracking episode and Stu's photo was excellent. Yes, I'm also Aurora bored now.
Great pubcast again guys, one for you to watch maybe Gary, if you've never seen it....The Circle.

Agree with Stu's comments about Tin House Studio. A successful professional photographer who tells it how it is and blows open a load of photo myths.

Lol, yep it doesn’t leave much to the imagination! Pleased you’re enjoying it enough to keep going though!
I know where Gary lives.I've seen his house, it's got a great big yellow M on the roof.😂
Busted 😂😂

On a gut level I'm with Daz on the health and safety (OSHA) whinge but you should see the shoes I'm routinely wearing in the woods.
I had great admiration for a certain landscape photographer until hasselblad gave cameras to them even when thet said it didnt suit their uses.
