Hey, that kid already knows more than some grown ups I have seen. I'm so happy to see people teaching their kids about gun use and gun safety. Thumbs up to both of you.
Hey, I just taught this technique to my 66 year old mother, she has always had issues racking her slide on her glock 43, but I am happy to say, that is no longer a issue!!! Thank you and your daughter VERY MUCH for making this video!!!
I've been a gun owner for years and never had this problem till my wife got her permit 🙂. A great video and now the wife can rack the slide. Thank you brother.
Hi. My husband loves firearms and we keep a Glock in our home for protection. I am absolutely terrified of guns but I admit that I feel much safer knowing that we have added security in our home. I am not the best at racking the slide. From what I understand, all Glocks have a 17lb recoil spring, which seems heavy to me. I’m also on the Autism Spectrum, and the grip on the slide for a Glock is especially painful on my sensitive skin. (In a threatening situation, I doubt this will matter much to me, but as of now, practice racking the slide is quite uncomfortable and rough on my skin.) Thank you kindly for your explanations, especially being geared toward women. I don’t think there’s any shame in admitting that women and men are different and that we each have our own strengths and weaknesses. I am very grateful you made this video centered on women. Your video is respectful, helpful, and your young daughter being proficient in firearms is truly inspirational and gives me confidence to continue as a 30-year-old woman. Thank you for all of your time in helping me better learn to defend myself from threats.
You can easily tell your daughter is no stranger to guns. I taught my daughters both to shoot at 8 years old. They were very good shots, and they were also mature enough to follow instructions. My son is still a good shooter and he was also taught from a young age. I think I still have him in some of my earlier videos. Great video, and great job by your daughter. All the best brother!!
Thank you fumasterchu12. She has been shooting for a long time and was doing indoor matches at 9. The problem was that once she became proficient, she started trying to mimic those that were shooting faster than they could shoot accurately. Had to get her away from that atmosphere for a bit.
@@XRINGWow, shooting matches at 9yo!! I guess I shouldn't really be surprised since she has you for a teacher/mentor. God bless brother, you're a good man.
Very cool! This will help a lot of people. Having your daughter do everything you talked about was a great idea. You can tell she has a good teacher. She did a great job. Cool video sir!
When I saw your daughter, I said I gotta get better. I thought that I just had weak upper body strength , but I know I’m stronger than a 12 year old😂. For me, racking has been the hardest part of managing my EDC. I now love my p365 more bc of you both! Seeing your daughter sealed it for me. After viewing this, I got up and immediately went out and bought some snap caps and I’ve been practicing for about 45 minutes now and I want to thank y’all bc ‘I GOT IT !! I’m sharing with all my friends. Thanks for taking the time to make this great video, you’re helping so any people, even if they don’t tell you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!😊
I swear she looked like “dad I got this why are you slowing me down!” This is honestly great advice for a lot of males. I’ve had 250 pound D1 college players have issues because these are muscles they aren’t used to using and their grip is horrible.
Ella did great! One of my dearest Aunts had the same name! (Not that it has to do with anything)! I just got sedimemtal! Lol! This IS a much needed video for the gals! You and your helper did great! One side note! Gun salespeople should quit pushing/insisting revolvers and small semi autos for ladies! Great job X-Ring! Best to you and your family!
XRING it looks like she is going to be able to beat you at a shooting contest LOL .... glad to see you taking the time to explain every detail so people can do it correctly
Thanks man, going to try this with the wife. She's 5'1", tiny hands, and has some arthritis issues, going to try this with her as she has some issues racking the few of guns that actually fit her hands.
This big, strong armed 74 year old man with arthritis in his hands thanks you for this video. I can lift heavy barbells but it’s still hard to rack until I tried this.
racking slides has ALWAYS been a problem for me (5'5" MAN). I just can't seem to get the leverage. I've been looking at female techniques in the hopes of learning some good ways to do it.
Nuttin' wrong with that man, as long as you're learning and as long as you find something safe and effective!! Would you say you have it down now??? Able to rack every time with little to no trouble???
@@C4RL1NN Absolutely! I tend to bring the weapon in close to my body, and push out with my primary while pulling back with my off hand. Racks perfectly every time!
Very good technique. Definitely teaching my daughter this was when she’s a bit older (5 years old atm). Even my 12 boy has difficulty racking some pistols. Good vid.
It's good that you correctly pointed out it's much harder to rack the slide with the hammer forward. There are other videos of this type, hosted by women, that demonstrate the ease of manipulating the slide but the hammer is already cooked. Your daughter demonstrates the difficulty perfectly, but under a stressful situation it may be more difficult.
The easiest slide I have ever found to pull is the 7lb slide spring in the RIA 22TCM pistols. (The USA version of a 5.7 that is 223 Rem based and 2100 FPS) I found a commander size RIA 1911, 17 round model for a relative that was elderly, and had his wrist fused. (He had worn his wrist joint out from damage being a union carpenter until right before nail guns came about.) It was the easiest slide to rack we could find. Its 7Lb slide spring was incredible! I couldn't believe how soft it is! Its super smooth, the near full length slides were like butter too :) The ammo was super inexpensive compared to 5.7 by a ton. Like 1200 rounds shipped for $399.99! It can be reloaded easily too for pennies. Like less than 15cents IFIRC. The steel frame gun helps with recoil quite a bit as well! A commander length (4.25") was the one for him. I need to have him compare it to the new "Lite Rack" Poly striker fired pistols, but I doubt they are easier.
Thank you for this video! BTW...your daughter is such a lucky girl to have a dad like you that is not afraid to show his baby girl how to hold and shoot a gun.
Thank you for this! I was thinking of giving up my 9 mil, for a .380. (Obviously not as good of an idea as I thought it would be) I have that same 38 I keep beside the bed, simply because it’s easier for me to handle. So glad I don’t have to give up my 9 mil. Thanks again!
OK so I have to give you the feedback. I have a 29 year old son who is a gun enthusiast and he tried to help me figure out different ways to rack my 9. I mean, I’m 55 years old now and don’t have the strength I did as a young woman. So I told him about your video. He came over yesterday, and ask if I had tried it yet. I replied not yet, so he takes his 45 off his hip and hands it to me. I tried it, and it worked! I was so happy! He then went to the car and got his Canak 9 mil. It’s smaller than mine. I was able to handle it too. You just don’t know how happy I am. I also feel a little stupid for not figuring it out for myself. But thank you again… 💪😊
One important tip is - To get angry at the gun. It's built out of steel, it isn't going to break. Just get mad and put that anger into driving the gun forward and the slide back
Awesome video! I had this discussion with my older sister a couple of years ago. I tried to convince her to let me work with her for a few minutes before she decided to buy a snubby. Nope, she bought a 2.5 inch 357. She shoots 38's out of it, and will practice, but does admit it's a bit snappy and loud.
Thanks New Texican. That seems to be the route that a lot of women gravitate towards. Not a bad option as long as they practice their proficiency with them.
Miss X - me again... wanted to ask if you have compared the Sig P365 vs the Glock 43? I wanted to know which has less recoil. or any other suggestions of one thats not so tough on recoil. thanks
Great! I was looking for another revolver for my daughter. She is very strong and works out daily, but she couldn't cycle an automatic. Problem solved, thank you, Sir, and Ella.
Nice vid and your daughter is very well disciplined as I will give credit to her teacher/Dad.....Good techniques as that is the way I tell folks to rack the slide if they struggle so good to know that I am in the ball park too....Good stuff....
@@XRING True...LOL...They have some light loads as you know that but maybe with the 20 ga and move her up as she will do fine knowing the blood line....Good genes to have....Good stuff....
@@scottf.3808 It isn't so much the recoil as it is the sheer weight of a shotgun. It took forever to find the right combo on an AR that she can hold offhand. She really, really wants to shoot a 3-gun, but I keep telling her not quite yet.
Just took some new shooters to the range and wish I had seen this video earlier! Super helpful and I’ll use this technique for new shooters from now on. And outstanding job to Ella as always!

At 4:57, when she racked, she focussed on the left hand and let her grip loosen on the right hand, and of course, the pistol moved in her right hand, but I'm gonna give her mulligan, 'cause I hate Sigs. She did very well with the rest of them. I'd liked to have seen the S&W M&P line.
Awesome Job Dad! Very cool. Just an observation but as the person has placed the weapon in her strong hand, she could try placing her weak hand palm on the slide as you demonstrated and as she closes her grip, she starts with her pinky finger first then the rest of her fingers. That will help her with the strongest grip. Then as she is pushing the frame towards the muzzle with her strong hand she is pulling the slide in the opposite direction (not up but back).
Good video overall. The saucer grip shouldn't be mentioned positively in any capacity. It's like having two hands and binding one behind your back. Why would you say it's okay, when you clearly have a different opinion (like in your 627 Performance Center video)? Woman and elderly shooters need all the grip they can get. I rack the slide the same way. It's just easier, there is more control and in the off chance my hand is harmed, I rack it the way with the best chances of still achieving it.
Your daughter is a sweet girl. You have a right to be proud of her. I am just jealous or her for racking those 1911's so well, being she's 80 lbs. I'm embarrassed.

I rack the slide the same way. It's just easier, there is more control and in the off chance my hand is harmed, I rack it the way with the best chances of still achieving it.
Pretty freaking cool!! Thank you!!
Very informative, thank you
have 9mm louger. always has been to pull slide back to load. im 80 and dont have enough strength to open slide to load
Your daughter is a sweet girl. You have a right to be proud of her. I am just jealous or her for racking those 1911's so well, being she's 80 lbs. I'm embarrassed.
