“With each new notebook, comes an adaptation as a result of a conflict faced in a previous notebook” hit the nail on the head with that one! Lol. Glad I’m not the only one with each new pocket notebook thinking I can make this new one work even better for me. I end up with pages and pages in each notebook dedicated to what I will do in my next notebook. It’s a cycle 😂
Right on!!! I'm glad you liked that! It's SO true, tho! Every time I start a new notebook, I have something new I want to implement!! Always growing and adapting! Thanks so much for watching!😁

Yo bro I got a notebook today because of your vids and its genuinely really helpful as a creative person, thanks for introducing me to notebooks with ur vids
I use a table of contents, but don’t number the pages but the topics. One of my topics might be my 5th topic, and all of its pages on the edge have 5. My next topic has page numbers of 6 and so forth. Makes it easier to label and then to find.
Dude your shots are better and better with every Vlog! Like honestly every video I say “Damnn he just keeps getting better”! Keep up the great work brother!!
Garrett, much respect to the pocket notebook strategy! You have me seriously considering doing something like this. I use Apple Notes, but you have me thinking (hahaha). Anyways, well done on this! This makes me want to create a permanent top-down setup!
Thanks, man!!! Dude, it's so worth it! Even just trying it out to get a feel for it would be a fun time! I think EVERYONE needs a good top-down setup!🤣 Thanks for supporting man!!
Garethebear, this is your year 😁 awesome video! I was hooked straight away and the pace and humor was on point 👌👌👌 I must say that after I found your channel I have thought to myself a lot; why doesn’t this channel have more views or subscribers.
Thank you so much, Niklas!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!!! Also, that has to be one of the best compliments a creator can receive, so thank you so much!😁
You don’t need to number every page, half the task by only writing on every other page do you can flick through and see them. If you want to denote it’s on the non numbered page you can do a dash next to the number in the contents/index.
Put the table of contents on the back page. That way you don’t have to worry about how many pages you need to reserve for it. You just move back another page if you need more room for your TOC.
I actually considered doing it this way! I landed in doing it in the front so that way it was easy to just flip to the beginning and reference what I'm looking for. Both ways would definitely work and have their own pros and cons. Thanks for watching!
I recently found your channel and am lovin’ it! I’ve been an avid journaler ever since I can remember- I absolutely love it! I use all different types of notebooks, from Moleskine, to Tomoe River ones and leuchtturms. I haven’t used a pocket size that much, but I will definitely start using them more because when I do, it’s easier to fill and use in general. I recently got those composition ones at Walmart but haven’t used them yet. Lookin forward to it though =) . Thanks for sharing your insight!
Do you ever get nostalgic when reflecting on older notes? I have felt nostalgic when returning to my older notebooks, it's really something when you get to see how your writing has evolved and your mindset. It's like returning to an old friend to check in and see how they are, reminding yourself of your history with them and bringing some old ideas back for a new experience.
I actually do! I did during this video. Looking back at all my old ideas and remembering where I was when I was writing them. It's a great time tho! Love going back and revisiting old ideas and notes!
Thank you so much! The trick is to just keep on making videos and talking to the camera, and you'll get more used to it every time! It's 5 years and counting, and I'm improving every day!
It's great to hear about the experiences others have had with their pocket notebooks. One key point for me is not to let formatting or any kind of conventions stop you from writing. The pocket notebook should be a place to experiment. Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱
I don't know if this has already been suggested, but it may be worth making a sort of table of contents for each book on a sheet of paper that's not kept in any of the books. So on this paper, you might say "(topic xyz) in book (date range) on page (number)." I don't know if that's useful to anyone besides myself, but I should really catalog my notes so I can do that. Either way, thank you for the inspo to keep writing in notebooks!
It actually was suggested before, and I implemented it! Definitely a worthwhile addition to the pocket notebooks! It's been extremely helpful when referring back to older notes! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!😁
🤣🤣🤣 That's why we have multiple pockets! I'd love to build some sort of mini bookshelf to store them all in! They currently just live on my desk. Thanks for watching, Ted!😎
I also use the Walmart notebooks and love them. I've also stockpiled some as you did. I don't want to worry if the quality shifts or Walmart stops carrying them. I salute your calcs on how long your stash will last! I also use a Table of Contents - and have experimented by adding a second and third one dedicated to a big topic or just a major project I'm working on. Here's a few more ideas for you: I focus my daily to-do list, each page is only one day. I write them only on the right hand side page (so odd number page), it's easier to see date and to-dos when flipping through the book. I suggest you get a pack of colored highlighters. Or, you can really go to town and use the Pentel Multi-8 pen with 8 different colored leads. Each color means something specific to me. In the notebook's first few pages, I'll give a reference key for what each color means. For example, green is related to my money spent, investing ideas, lists of what I want to purchase, etc. I will for more important pages highlight the top corner of a page, with a one of two word note. For example, green highlight on corner with word JetPens for future purchases at that store. If I think it's needed, in my Table of Contents I will highlight the page number as a quick visual sort of where all my 'green' topics are. I offer another idea -- in my to-do list tasks, I'll use different check boxes that I can fill in as completed. It helps my brain quickly sort and prioritize tasks. My examples: box for new to-do, circle for chores or recurring tasks, upward pointing triangle for a task that gets me to a larger goal of mine. If I don't get it done that day, I'll draw an arrow pointing upward to the right - and during my end-of-day review I'll adjust my goals for tomorrow. Lastly, I want to make a pitch for Microsoft's OneNote software. I find not many people use it, but it's an excellent free-form, feature rich notetaker. I've used it for more than 20 years (even as an early beta-tester). It's search function is amazing. If I'm at my PC, it's always open. It's like having a second brain that never forgets a thing. Cheers!
Love this!!! I appreciate all your tips and advice! I love the idea of the highlighters. Also, I'm happy to report that my calculations in this video are WAY off. I've been going through each notebook in 3x the time that I had predicted. Not a bad problem to have, I just might need to snag a few dozen more notebooks🤣
Damn, that was super good video. I went a little further with covering whole cover in tape and taped elastic band near the spine of notebook, so i can store my pen flat with whole book. adds a little stress to whole thing and it wont close while laying on desk or smthing but it also just might be too much tape near the spine. NOW I ONLY NEED TO KEEP WRITING AND DON'T TOSS IT INTO A DRAWER AAAAAAAA
Thanks, dude!!! I've seen some modifications where you can attach a piece of string and have it be a bookmark! Might try that for my next book. Hopefully, you can get into the habit and keep writing! Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you i have learnt in this video that how to do table of contents and date of starting and the finish , i am glad to here that's why i am subscribing you.
Instead of all that time laminating the covers (5 mins x every notebook you will have = a lot of time) why not just use a notebook cover, bit like a wallet but allows you to use and protect your notebook. When notebook filled you file it away and put new notebook into the cover. Looks, feels and wears better as well as saving time.
My problem with the walmart notebooks is their binding. It opens flat, which is nice, but the way the spine winds up exposed when it is open irks me. Also, I like to be able to tear sheets out, and because the book is folded sheets bound the way it is, it feels wrong to do. I did enjoy using them for the time I did. I switched to digital task tracking, but that has since fallen though. 😅
Great content, thanks for sharing. I think you're great at the composition and editing. The music and production are great. I would share one bit of feedback -- your close head shots are too close for my comfort. Maybe step back another 6 inches? Your face fills the frame, and it's a little eerie -- like we're socially too close. Please keep up with the great content and video production.
Hey there! Thanks for this comment. Check out some of my newer videos, as they do not have such a tight shot on the talking head scenes. This one is a bit older, and I've gotten a lot better at a lot of different things since this video was made! Thanks!

Pocket Notebook. Let's go!
Let's go!!! Thanks for tuning in, Antonio!!🙏
I love this video; it combines information, emotion, and cinematography. All on the subject of the humble notebook. Beautiful 😊
Well, thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!😁
