@@BitsofEurope M5 expansion is not actual anymore, for this time. Bucharest is building now 2 new metro lines: M4 (14 new stations, 12 Km) and M6 to Henry Coanda Airport (12 new stations) the cost will be around 4 billion euro (EU funds + a loan from the Japanese government for the M6 line.) The physical work already started for M6, preconized to open in 2026, while for M4 it will start in 2026. The M4 line will connect also with the new airport that will be built in the south of Bucharest in 2028. There is also already plans for another new metro line (M7) 15 new stations, 13 km.

I belive every station has an elevator (LE initially I wrote escalator) that can be used by people in wheelchairs or with moving problems to go down and up.
Not the case. Each station has an elevator or lift that can be used for wheelchairs etc but just one escalator going one way... That's my point. Unless you make the effort to find the elevator and use it, then it's just one escalator to and from street level. Not a big criticism, just a comment that in new stations was just strange having one escalator going one way instead of one each way.. Thanks for your comment.
@@Vercixx all good... I thought you meant that.. Yeh I agree each has an elevator, great for wheelchairs but so many people with bad knees or backs or even younger people with sports injuries etc, you don't necessarily need a lift but stairs are not a good option.. So it's just strange having a one way escalator on a brand new series of stations. But I agree that at least having a lift now at each is great...o zi buna.
Because the line has been given the colour orange as its designator. Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange and Purple is planned but not sure if it will go ahead.
They look tiny and soulless, old stations are bigger, considering they also housed shops and boutiques and still had space. Not to mention those didn’t take ages to be built. Too bad we now have financial resources but lack in other departments. But I mean, this is top quality compared to other upcoming abominations, like elevated roundabouts on the ring road and many more.
Perfect description mate.. I think even though they are new and contemporary.. Soulless is spot on.. Feel sterile.. The big old stations with a few magazin and a patiserie to grab a covrig and a coffee have character. With the roads, lot of building going but I suppose we see that as a plus rather than sites that used to just stagnate?.. Mulțumesc pentru comentarii.
@@BitsofEurope Indeed, there is this phenomenon now that people are so starved for investments, or rather any action from the authorities, since they have done so few in the past years, that anything that comes is seen as a plus. But the problem is that most investments are unfortunately “cheapish” regarding the technical solutions chosen, their execution etc. They tried so much to get rid of corruption (and failed even there) that no other problem matters anymore. For example, all works the state contracts, they do so based on who offers the best price. Yet the cheapest does not necessarily mean the best. But the consequence is that we have all these unfortunate public works that look horrible and also are obsolete from the get go. Also, specifically about these subway stations, even the old ones, they are now demolishing all the shops to show how the law is respected. The real deal is that the authorities are in conflict with some union leader and on the way all those shops’ renting contracts expired and couldn’t be renewed. But instead of cooperating and trying to find a solution, they chose to use force and demolish everything, and some people cheer on seeing how this apparently cleans everything up and makes it look like in the ‘civilized world’. Yet that’s not true at all: not only you lose the convenience these shops brought, but also all big metro systems have plenty of shops underground as well. Not to mention how they destroy plenty of jobs in the crisis we are in. That union leader is called Radoi or something, I don’t want to side with him, but I don’t understand why couldn’t the authorities sit down and evaluate each shop individually, see whether it is okay to be located there (fire safety, accesibility etc) and them negotiate new contracts with them directly. Why demolish them just to bring them back after a few months, as they say they will eventually create a framework to authorize these in the future? Or is that just a lie and they will make old station soulless as well?
@@vali20vali20vali20 great logic... Cheapest never means best for sure. The metro situation is pretty tragic with the impasse and total lack of ability to come to an amicable solution.. Tough enough as it is at the moment and last thing we need are more people unemployed.. Obviously knocking the shops down or refreshing and relaunching benefits someone who has a stake in seeing them change hands.
They already partially apply Schengen conditions but not fully. I still think some border control for example, is a good thing as much as we all love free movement.
Ar fi misto sa renoveze statiile alea cele mai populare gen unirii, romana, victoriei.. deja imi dau o stare de nesiguranta, zici ca mai au putin si pica pe tine. Statiile astea noi de pe m5 sunt top.

@artodisque Yes I agree. Those older metro stations have a place in the history of the city and I think in my humble opinion, that in their raw original form, that has a character of its own. It represented the period and the time and the fact it really was built as a mass transit system to get workers from A to B with no frills. I think in the last few years around the globe there has been a real push to change history and symbols of history that certain people don't like, but that's the beauty of history, we are meant to be able to see it and experience it and take lessons from it, both good and bad. So I agree, that even though some may find concrete and tiles boring and drab, that character should be retained. Just a good clean, some added lighting, fresh coat of paint etc...stay safe.

Yeh agree, filthy metro in Paris and run down. Some of the older stations here in Bucuresti need a little TLC, but at least the stations are always clean and very functional and the new M5 line is nice. My only curiosity was a couple of the stations have such a distinct curve on the platform, that the driver can no longer see the rear cars in the station mirror, to close the doors. So now on that line its a two person operation, a second guy riding as a guide jumps out, looks round the curve and gives the all clear to close doors.
i just found out that those are the CAF Bucharest (best sound when going slow) there are also the Bombardier Movia 346 (they're everywhere, best sound when going fast) Astra IVAs dont even think about it (graffiti everywhere, very loud sounds when turning)
This is literally the same sound we hear at the metro stations in Stockholm. And i love that sound that starts and ends with the B note on piano
I believe its because both metros use Bombardier Movia rolling stock
Because we have similar trains (Bombardier Movia) i use to live in Stockholm so for me was very familiar this sound 😁
I like the metro in bucharest. All the stations are different from one-another. No 2 stations are the same when it comes to the architecture.
