Regardless of personal taste, the UZI is still one of the sexiest submachineguns ever designed.
It's got a great rate of fire as well, and it's incredibly reliable in harsh conditions and environments.
I like the Mac-10 but that thing is an absolute bullet hose.
VT editor/director. Phenomenal job manipulating slowmo footage and marrying it really well to sound! I thoroughly enjoyed it. -GN
Very first 9mm gun I ever shot was a friend's registered Vector Arms UZI.
It was great! More accurate than I expected. We both scored nice groups in bursts, but especially semi auto.
I'll concede that the UZI is overrated, but you have to keep in mind it was designed by a 20 something year old man with little to no gun designing experience for a year old country. Comparing it to the MP5, which is over a decade and a half newer, or even the MP40 is a bit unfair.
B.D.B. uzi is better than both anyhow.
You can not over rate the Uzi because it has proven itself in combat during the Six day war in Israel. This was designed just after WW2 . The MP5 could have been designed with the help of the newest technology that could help in the design of weapons and other proven firearm technology that have been evolved and proven in the field. Yet the Uzi is still a reliable small arms combat firearm. It can equal or even better in performance other sub machine pistols in combat. If a 10 german soldiers armed with Mp5s will combat with 10 Israeli soldiers armed also with Uzis, do you think the germans will win because they are using MP5s?
The concept is the ability to produce it in your own country vs relying on importing weapons from other places. This is useful for when they blockade your ports, set up arms embargoes etc. So how then do we mass produce this weapon with minor firearms production experience and semi skilled labour? You make it simple. That simplicity is going to be a godsend sometimes, and will come with a cost at others. To some degree we might as well be talking about comparing a Thompson to a Sten. However, a comparison to an MP40 may be fair enough.
Ak47 was designed by a 20 something too, and the platform is still reliable.
I would agree and the UZI is 1/3 the price of the MP5 and half the price of an MP40.
Your videos have always been good, but the last few months this have been great. Awesome stuff. Give a big high five to your camera and graphics guys too! Thanks for your service, and keep 'em coming!
After firing over 4,000 rounds through a Full Auto Uzi I can honestly say I have never had an issue with the grip safety, yes its a bit annoying and it does take some getting used to, however at 100m on full auto you can place all 32 round (in a 32 round mag of course) on center mass of a silhouette target if you have the practice and it does not take much. The one must for owning an Uzi is using/having a can/suppressor, it really does help make the Uzi a whole lot more controllable and it still feels rather comfortable if not a bit on the heavy side. I still prefer an Uzi to an MP5 or even a Mac-10.
+Spartan536 indeed. carried it for 6 years, thousends of rounds (army paid for it), never an issue. hate the idea of taping the safety. it might drop and than it will go bang. (and maby more than once...)
+Robin de louwere he might but I talk from personal experience. Having a UA-cam channel doesn't make you all knowing. Neither do I btw.
I'm the opposite. I like the Mac series overall. Cheap to build, very compact, and I like the wire pull stock vs the Uzi stock. I think the only time the MAC fails is when weak mag springs are used which can't keep up with the lulzy rate of fire. I like the high rate of fire because you use it like a semi auto and you fire several shots per pull of the trigger.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj mac's are also pieces of shit that you can't rely on. 1 uzi is worth 20 mac's.
I feel like the MP5 is a little better overall, but the Uzi is no slouch and speaks for itself.
Great content as always, im not even that into guns, but Larry Vickers sure know how to make it interesting.
Uzi was my personal weapon in the army, no problems with the grip safety at all. First thing we learned was when you grip something, you grip something and dont stroke it.
Agreed but I think these are just some of his personal biases because he’s not used to the gun
I’m more likely he just shoots other guns a lot more
You guys have it all; amazing cinematography, fun tools, experienced trainers and engagement-centered content. SUBSCRIBED!
The grip safety does not (cannot) "drag on the bottom of the bolt". Nowhere in the action does the grip safety even touch the bolt. It simply moves a sear blocking appendage that prevents the sear from moving downward when the safety is not disengaged.
But the sear is ratcheting? So the sear if pressed up can drag against the bolt
The sear does not ratchet, simply pivots on the sear pin. You cannot "press the sear up" on an Uzi either. The trigger mechanism simply pulls the sear downward to disengage it from the sear tabs on the bolt. The trigger mechanism holds the bolt "down" consistently in full-auto mode and disengages and then reengages the bolt with each pull of the trigger in semi-auto mode. The sear spring is what actually moves the sear back in contact with the bolt, but it lacks enough force or pressure against the bolt to cause any malfunction. That is something purposely incorporated into the design by Gal.
100% CORRECT
The gun is heavy, but it’s solid. The stamped receiver is much thicker than a AK so that adds to the durability. Recoil is light and the accuracy is fine for what it’s designed to do.
Thanks Larry! Your videos are always very nice visually, with nice slo mo (also of the action closing and then firing 👍🏻). The sound effects are also great. 👍🏻👍🏻 More long range stuff please! 😃
Thanks for the tip about the grip safety. Tips like these are what makes a video go from good to great. That tip has helped me a lot. I enjoy shooting it a lot more now that I don't have to worry about the grip safety.
1/10 he should have hold it one handed and played trap music in the background
+Little Fav Actually one american Instructor tried that with a 9 years old girl,he died.
+Rettungssocke um no, she was given a MAC 10 and she just held it down
+evand848 it was a mini uzi. at burgers and machine guns.
Panzer Elch i was told it was a mac 10, which i can picture easily
@@evand848 It was a Micro Uzi. A lot of people had to be fkking stupid that day to let that happen.
This is my favorite channel. Cool guy and cool guns. Keep up the great videos Larry.
Great video I recently purchased a registered bolt gun from a friend. I sold him the gun in the mid 1980’s and now I’m buying it back at a 1000% increase in price unfortunately. I will get a full stock for it tho it makes controlling the gun much easier than the folding stock.
I respect how you add sound effects to slow motion clips instead of using the ear splitting sound of guns firing in slow motion.
Agreed with that assessment for sure
A classic , .keep the good work
Love the tape advise makes sense
Super informative. Thanks.
It would be AWESOME to see a vid of the XM8 rifle.
There are not many vids out there about it, and it would be really interesting to see it in HD! :D
Classic piece of hardware, belongs both on the front lines for it's still stellar performance, as well as in a museum so it can be showcased as one of the best firearns ever!
I have a picture of my mom shooting it in basic training, beat that.
uzi or mp5?
Was your mom in the IDF?
The only two full autos I've shot so far are a Stock DPMS M4 with iron sights and a UZI. I have say I really liked the UZI more. It was really controllable compared to the M4.
great shit as always!!
thx this is gonna help me when i go to the range soon
Great video, ive always had a strange obsession with UZIs, really would like one myself
I love the Uzi platform and can use it to very good effect. I too hate the grip safety, but I solved that problem with a zip tie to semi-permanently disable it.
Uzi does it!
Great video...thanks
Awesome episode!
review the saiga 12 shotgun please
my dad's got one of these. absolutely awesome. its just like the mp40 in terms of fire rate, and has the same issues with underpowered ammo, lol
This unmistakable sound was one of my favorite weapons when I was still in the military (Jägerbataillon 4/501)
You are absolutely right 😊 It’s one of the best submachine 💪 guns
Great gun!!!!..... It is practically the first SMG in the market.
that was some cool demonstrating man
The perfect fit for frantic action.
Man Love these Uzi videos so awesome and very accurate as well please keep em coming from brother Andrew jr the kid 😂😂😂😂😂.
concise and clear thanks
Awesome video man....
Very nice!
Possible to do one on the Steyr AUG and center axis relock?
Awesome episode!
tommygun6866 I would love to see LAV discuss CAR! He would need to go really in depth on the whole system though, and not just the shallow dismissal that most people provide in order to make it properly informative.
Thanks for providing us with such an honest review!
Thanks for emphasizing the grip safety. It certainly appears to be the 'hobgoblin' of the weapon design.
I own a semi-automatic Uzi carbine and have put a few thousand rounds through it. I learned to tie down (in my case with velcro strapping) the grip safety a long time ago. For a while at first, I thought maybe there was something wrong with my grip because I haven't seen a lot of other civilian owners do this. It's good to know that it's not just me.
For those complaining about the weight, it's like the AK-47. It is a tank designed for use in the desert with sand blowing and all that crap. Here is the thing about weight. The UZI is heavy enough that it stays stable. You can fire it from the hip in semi auto and find your target. Plus you can break it completely down for cleaning by removing one pin on the lower receiver assembly the same as the AR-15. It would cost a fortune to make today plus it's fires a pistol round. Lots of things make it unusable by today's standards but I love the thing.
That pin only takes the grip off. You have have to take the top cover off to completely disassemble it for cleaning. It’s like an AK to disassemble, not an AR-15.
If a gun is good enough for Snake Eyes, it's good enough for me... ( helps to also have a ninja sword and a wolf ) Yo Joe.
This is 1950's technology that has since evolved. It would be nice to see an evaluation of a newer model such as the mini uzi
the slow-mo parts gives me goosebumps
Love this gun.
good stuff. I never knew the Uzi was an open bolt design.
I’ve bet heard of this grip safety issue I know the bolt lock issue but never once have I heard of someone relaxing their hand enough to release the grip safety enough to cause a misfire or malfunction
Vikers Tactical is probably the best firearm channel in UA-cam! Thanks Sir Larry!
A $2 bicycle inner tube from Walmart cut into a 2" ring around the grip to hold the grip safety in works great too.
Still love the Uzi, even if there are better options available. I'm not a big fan of grip safeties either, though.
I love your videos.
A lot of comments about the grip safety not being an issue. A lot of things are not an issue under training or casual use but manifest themselves to be a major issue with the introduction of stress. Especially those with smaller hands. Personally love the Uzi nice slow controllable rate of fire. A true icon & far from overrated.
Yeah the constant recoil principle of the MP-40 where the bolt does not go all the way back helps lower it's recoil impulse. Neat feature, cool video, the L-Bracket magazine setup is pretty slick.
I would rather have a mp38/40 than this overrated piece of weaponry
TheTh903 PPS41
I have one that's semi auto with the 16" barrel. It shoots great and can hit the chest of a man sized target with standard irons at 100 yards. For tight close quarters work 15-20 yards you can hit post it note size targets in a staggered triangular pattern set up.
Kinda like stand facing away from the target buzzer goes off and turn engage and 1,2,3 place your shots in each post it note.
Repeat this for 5 sessions it's really quite fun to shoot. Run her wet and she'll keep going bang. I personally like the UZI, glad I
got it. It's the little Tank that Can. : )
LAV, I understand the shortcomings of the UZI but can you talk more specifically about what you see as deficiencies? Combat accuracy etc, how it shoots??
whats your contingency if you drop it on a closed bolt, full magazine? im pretty sure it would go off especially if you have the grip safety taped down
I love the way it has the dots in the Hebrew on the selector switch to help with pronunciation for non fluent speakers.
I’ve always wondered why there was tape on the grip all the time. Learn something new everyday
dude give the uzi some slack it was a submachine gun that was developed in the 50-60's for its time it was a preety darn good platform ,the uzi is not overated it simply past its time..
It's less moving parts lesx to go wrong . heard its super affective and accurate. What more do you want
I liked shooting it better than the MP5 because of the lower rate of fire & weight make it easier to shoot. Given that, I would rather have the closed bolt & the telescoping folding stock design of the MP5.
That's a nice work of your camera man.
Freakin Beautiful
Wow. Say what you will, that's an awesome little shooter. Israeli ingenuity at work! Nice job, Larry.
Would love to see you make a video on the Swedish-K (Carl Gustav m/45)
if u could get your hands on one.
Its an awsome Old school SMG and id bet if any1 can get there hands on 1 for a video it would be you (it was used by Alot of US Navy Seals Around the Vietnam Period)
got a mac10 full auto in 45 acp, its pretty much exactly like the uzi except its shorter and even more compact, except its really heavy. shooting it like a pistol in full auto is impossible to control and horribly inaccurate. but with the stock and foregrip strap its very controllable with some practice, at 30 feet i can keep entire 31 round mag dump at 1200 rpm in a pie pan.
1980s action movies, the uzi worked well for Chuck Norris loll😁
sure, because all the movies had been made by an Israeli company...!
It rides nicely on top of the reserve chute.
Love this gun u have to know how use it ,The mini uzi is much better and also the uzi pro which has a closed bolt
Nothing like a nice warm Uzi. ;-)
Opinions about the Uzi Pro?
Not bad for when it was designed, but what about the Uzi pro (if you are going to compare it to more modern weapons)?
you obviously don't own a full auto Uzi and did not take one apart to see how it works. grip safety blocks the sear and it is not drag on a bolt or touch the bolt at any point. I own 2 Uzi MGs. it is highly reliable gun. Uzi got only 5 moving parts that including the bolt, trigger, sear, safety lever, selector.
It blows me away that this old design has so few moving parts. That's why it's so reliable. If I had to defend myself against a wave of zombies, the LAST thing I want is for my weapon to fail. I'd feel comfortable with an UZI partly because it is quite easy to learn with.
Zimilevich MD THANK YOU! finally someone with ACTUAL knowledge! Not LV bullshit talk.
@@MrKlashnikovkid LAV is a former SFOD-D soldier, he might get stuff wrong but he's not bullshit.
Awesome
I just love the famous Arnold quote: The Uzi 9mm...
can you talk about MP-7?
You should be able to rig that magazine L bracket so the mags always face forward, otherwise it can bugger things up when you go to fold and unfold the stock. If you are trying to get machinegunners trained up on a budget, you can rig different thickness spacers in behind the buffer spring holder thingy (I forget what it is called) to shorten the bolt travel a little bit, thus tuning the cycle rate to match whatever belt fed you want your guys trained up on, and thus they get in tuned with the trigger and gun cycle harmonics at that cycle rate.
But beware shortening the buffer spring / bolt travel too much with over-thick buffer pads because doing so can cause malfunction in feeding and ejection. Adding a thicker buffer pad effectively compresses the buffer (or "recoil") spring and too thick of a pad can prevent the bolt travel reward to the point the bolt malfunctions due to over-tension and lack of travel ability in the spring itself, in other words the coils of the spring can "bottom out" against themselves.
I love Larry but the fa UZI is amazingly controllable.
UZI SMG is a fine weapon for 1911 guys like me.
We are used to grip safeties.
just grip firmly that grip safety like a man and it should go boom all the time
Love me some Uzi
Grip safeties are pretty archaic. I assume it is there as a drop safety due to the open bolt design. I have seen various passive drop safeties in smg's (check out Forgotten Weapons) which are well designed and less obtrusive. It makes sense to carry any open bolt weapon in condition 3. I didn't realize it was quite that heavy also. I thought it was 1-1.5 lbs lighter. Great video and good explanations
Grip safetys are designed just for that reason........ SAFETY........ to be sure you have a good grip on the weapon when the trigger is engaged.or the internal action jolted (dropped) to the point the sear disengages from the bolt in a full auto or striker in a semi auto Uzi. Bypassing, removing, or "tying" one back is extremely foolish. If someone cannot grip and disengage the grip safety on ANY firearm, they have no business handling one in the first place.
Does the Norinco Uzi also have the ratchiting top covers?
uzi smg best for ever !
Mr Vickers
I agree with you the grip safety is a pain in the ass but you're wrong about the grip safety putting pressure on the bolt. If you remove the lower and look at the grip safety it moves forward and rearward not up and down. The only thing that comes in contact with the bolt is the sear. I speak from experience I have a full auto UZI. As far as underrated I don't agree with that statement either. UZiI's are built like tanks and will run forever with very few parts needing to be replaced.
Larry = 🤡!
Never would've dreamed it was that heavy
highliter97 No kidding. As heavy as a rifle? Insane.
well, i mean if you think about it the uzi is a lot smaller than a m4. you can get one for 2 or more pounds lighter...
Scott Spencer
I alwasy loved how every tittle is H&K apc9, or M3 Grease gun and this one was just "uzi"😂😂😂😂always kills me
I suppose he could have titled it IMI Uzi.
Chuck Norris loves this gun (in movies)
Mac 10 next please!
The stuff of my obsession.
Why didn't IMI just upgrade it to not feature the grip safety?
P.S. I must say LAV you have the best production value of any weapon channel on UA-cam.
SharpGT500 damn right! People running their mouths about shit they have no goddamn idea what they are talking about. You can LITERALLY pick up any uzi parts kit and check out the lower and see how the grip safety works.
My dad let me hold his uzi when i was like 7. I remember it was so heavy I almost fell forward. I also remember taping the grip safety down. Did it on all my toy uzis in the 80s to look legit.
Regarding the grip safety.
The Safety can be easily deactivated and placed in the depressed position adding a small piece of bar stock in the trigger group. Likewise it can easily be removed to re-activate it. Problem solved.
Totally agree about the grip safety. I have fired a full auto UZI and the grip safety is an abomination. In a semi-auto Uzi, the grip safety digs into the web of the hand and is uncomfortable after a few dozen shots.
