  • IT IS FINALLY HERE!!! The Poet and the Pendulum!
This is the LONGEST video I've uploaded. I'd recommend making sure you have set aside the time to view this, or view it with an "intermission" LOL. I paused the video/song at each musical section for my reaction and commentary.
It's my honor & privilege to bring you my impression and commentary of this EPIC story. I have spent weeks learning about Nightwish, with the last 2 weeks viewing Tarja's performances and learning the backstory in an effort to be ready to experience this song.
I knew I couldn't rush into this one. I used video clips and poetry to help illustrate the emotional state this song will always portray. I learned how to edit, so I could give this song the presentation it so deserves! This is my way of honoring and respecting the poignant nature of this masterpiece.
Dear Tuomas……."I shall forever stroll through the corridors of your heart".
(Now, I can FINALLY watch other reactors review this song!)
Special Thanks to the Nightwish family for the backstory information, for helping to guide this journey, and all the comments and friendship and love. Thank you for your patience. I needed to be 'ready' for this one!

I loved every moment, even the early mornings before work and middle of night insomnia's I spent researching, digging deeper, learning the editing, perusing through my vault of poetry, listening to Tarja, taking in suggestions from the NW Army with documentary, interviews, etc. I tried to take in as much history as I could find over the past couple weeks. The thing about Poet & Pendulum, is that it's not leaving my mind, I've been pondering the lyrics for over a week now, and I can come up with more in depth meaning and how to tie it all together with the backstory. No, actually both reaction types are interesting: those who react without knowing the background and those reacting with the knowledge. It brings different interesting things to observe to the surface. E.g. without knowing the background you can still grasp the meaning behind the music. And it's fascinating to see those reactors. They cry, although they don't even know anything about the song. The music transports the meaning this much.

    • @KellyDeaconKDzJOY

@@nebucamv5524 I'm really happy you added this to the comments. The reason is this..... I assumed anyone without any knowledge would see the talent, beauty, and emotions, but I wasn't so sure they'd fall deep without knowing the backstory. The performance of music and lyric transcends research..... THAT is something not of this world. Wow... I'm glad you mentioned this, and the comparison of those that do research, and those that have no info. Excellent point.

One of my thoughts was that Tuomas might have been more willing to let Floor sing it, because he knew that she had gone through some bad times herself with the burn-out and everything and would make it count at any rate. Floor herself had a song that was extremely difficult for her to sing. Thanks for brightening up my day as it is quite cloudy and rainy here. Have a nice day, Kelly.

The release year for this song was 2007. I think I was confused with the last concert with Tarja in October of 2005. My apologies. I'd like to extend a huge thanks to some very special people in the NW Discord, and the NW family for the recognition and decision to give this first impression and commentary a bit of "attention" to those that have contact with Nightwish . Most definitely a humbling experience.

This is one hell of an emotional overload , much to much , you feel the pain and those basic 6 impassioned human behaviors deep within your heart and soul........you are unknowingly drawn into this huge event of a music extravaganza oblivious to the reality around you for the whole duration of this beautiful performance....... I cannot think of no better accolade for this man but i believe Tuomas Lauri Johannes Holopainen is to Music as what Einstein was to Science, a Phenomenon of our time , but i have to mention the rest of the partners in Nightwish who are truly deserving in this Epic band.... for without them we would not be experiencing the beauty and emotions we feel every time they perform for their Global Followers .

@@KellyDeaconKDzJOY Kelly , i just could not pass by on your emotional contribution to this fantastic band ,
i had to make the comments that i did and re living those moments yet again . Myself along with
friends were in the lower level just left of the stage at Wembley Arena for this venue in 2015.
They performed 17 of their songs...but out of all those... hardly anyone was dancing and feeling high
when the 11th song was being performed " The Poet & The Pendulum " , hardly anyone moved at
all and as the performance progressed tears of quiet emotion including myself were being shed
across a packed arena . This is the only time i have seen Nightwish live.... a night that i shall cherish
and never forget...... when i saw your reaction it all came flooding back to me.

When someone mentioned Nightwish to me some 5 or 6 weeks ago they knew I was in to poetry and it would be a good match. The person (I wish I could remember who it was ) said that tuomas' songs are poetic. It was at that very moment I knew I found a muse. It became very clear when I first heard "I want my Tears Back". Please find my reaction. It was shocking and unexpected and you'll understand why. I am forever touched. It's an honor to be in the NW army. Thank you.

You've just been "FLOORED" I cry every time i watch/listen to this floor has a beautiful angelic powerful voice & can make any type of song sound beautiful, but let's not forget the band to play that live & be so tight is like a symphony but they have no conductor it's a masterpiece & I can say that they are so much tighter now that Floor has joined them.

In the Pacific that section about on the shore we sat and hoped under the same pale moon whose light shows you all, That is a reference to a bit of Nightwish history. Back when they 1st formed the band before they had a name, they went on a camping trip together on a Lakeside. Underneath the pale Blue Moon they sat all night and that's when they came up with the name Nightwish. This is a call back to the very beginning when everything started

Thank you, what a wonderful journey through beautiful music with such powerful lyrics. I hope Tuomas Holopainen someday watches this reaction. To really understand it, and the whole situation you should read the book of Nightwish from beginning to the last concert with Tarja, what really did go on. The part Mother and Father is mostly what Tuomas mother told him he went home to Kitee after the news broke out that Tarja was forced to leave the band. I remember it like yesterday...!

This is a really powerful song and I'm glad you like it.
If you like, you could check Timo Tolkki's work. He's a great composer who suffered from several mental illness a couple of years ago. He tells his story in one of his solo albums (Hymn to Life) even telling how he had an abusive father and how all the things that happened to him in his early years lead to all of his metal illness.
