    Spent my night doing that at home and today at a soundcheck I was doing the swiss army triplet in 16th on my handpan (never thought of that !) as showed and a singer came and said "dude these triplets are awesome". At first I thought to myself I'm doing something wrong althought i was with a metrnome in my ears. Then i figured out he doesnt have the count. I gave him the time and he was "duuuuude thats even more awesome"

    Year of the Hands! I've been following your vids, and working the hands all year. I even got the drum pad next to the couch so I can work your exercises while watching tv. I definitely have noticed an improvement with my speed/control. Grateful that I found your channel. BTW, that 10 min flam exercise got my arms BURNING, love it! Thanks Rob

    As always I'm amazed by how I start off with these workouts thinking something like 'I can't do flams', to making serious progress seriously quickly, simply by following Rob's instructions. By keeping things relaxed and simple, yet completely focused, he makes learning new stuff such fun! Loops are definitely so much better to play to than clicks!!

    I actually can't believe how much I've improved in only about 2 months taking your workouts seriously. 4800 doubles has been essential. I'd say my playing time consists of 80% on the pad now doing this time of stuff and going over my most used rudiments, and 20% jamming on the kit. It's amazing being able to apply rudiments to fills now in a matter of minutes just because of this muscle memory. I appreciate your videos and teaching style.

    I was late to your channel and the Year of the Hands so my hands are still catching up. But it's a fantastic idea and very necessary idea. I unfortunately neglected my hands because I was so focused on my feet when developing my particular drumming technique. Ive been drumming for almost 20 years and I just bought my first ever practice pad a few months ago after being inspired by your channel and lessons! So thanks for that!
    It is UNREAL how simple yet terribly difficult this particular workout is, for me. Even at a STUPIDLY slow tempo Im stumbling all over myself. I have to thank you again for this one dude! I know Ill be working on this for quite a while! Watching how effortlessly you do this at such speed is inspiring, like most of your videos!
    Keep em coming and Ill keep watching... and trying to keep up with you! You are truly an amazing drummer.

    Although "hand looseness" is a hard thing to quantify, I can say this: the first time I tried your double stroke workout, I had a hard time keeping up with 16ths played at 120 bpm. I tried the same workout again two days ago and the tempo felt relaxed and everything flowed smoothly. While I can certainly improve my dynamics, I find that I do have more control over the small muscles in my wrists and fingers. Thanks for sharing, Rob. Rock on

    yo Rob I watched your video on traditional grip tips right when I started practicing traditional grip. Its opened up a whole new world for me. Even tho it was crazy difficult to learn at the beginning and it almost seemed pointless, now that I've been practicing it hardcore for a month I am much more comfortable with it believe it or not. Ive been playing in a jazz big band and punk rock band and I use mostly traditional grip for both as it just feels so much more efficient in terms of speed and precision. But like you said I still use match every once in a while for power. But thanks a lot for your videos they help a ton and give me new ideas for grooves as well as practice methods.

    Hi Rob, been following your channel for a while now and apart from the great info, have to say I really like your delivery. Just come across this flam workout and thought you, and everyone else here, might like to share something I discovered while working on Swiss Triplets as you are here: if you are playing, say, a bar of these, but play the last beat starting with the left flam (as expected), then instead of the double right to follow, you play a single right then a left, then a right (ie a normal triplet), you can then flam with the right, thus turning the exercise round to start leading with the left hand. At the end of the next bar, you do the reverse, and you're back to your right lead. Add as many flammed triplets and/or unflammed ones between turnarounds to taste.
    Personally I found this to be very tricky to start with, having spent decades only playing Swiss Triplets leading with the right. However the benefits of this are obvious: you 'work' on your weaker side, you get used to leading with whichever hand happens to be 'to hand' (see what I did there!) at whatever point in the music you're at without having to contort to kick off whatever you're about to play on your 'right' (I'm here all week!) hand, and, if you are also playing the HiHat and Kick with this, you 'force' cross-limb coordination. Hope this is useful folks!
    Great channel, looking forward to the next video. Cheers

    • @tdrum21
      @tdrum21 6 років тому

      Nick Beesley Louie Palmer has a similar exercise with the turnaround at the end of the bar being a single flammed mill(one side) which turns it to the other side

Great stuff to pick up in pretty much every single video... just one thing I've been missing in a lot of your hand workouts: why not invert the patterns after a certain amount of repetitions? I don't really see any benefits to not doing that, since after all, we wanna work towards building BOTH our hands equally, am I right? Anyways, thanks for your content, keep it up! Peace

    Check this out - When I drive I have a stick in my left hand and play on the steering wheel to and from work and any other time I'm driving. I have plenty of exercises like singles at speed and accenting and triples and other exercises.. And then I work on the right hand. Surprisingly, my left hand is faster than my right! I've been playing for 40 plus years but just getting back into it after some years off. Believe me these sessions work! I don't recommend it if you are not a focused driver but it sure passes the time while in traffic. My chops have always been good but now they are even better. Ever see those "Don't text and drive" signs? They need a "Don't drum and drive" for me.

    OH too fast for me.... even with the RLR posted.... I can't keep up. I'll have to come back to this one after more time on the drums.

    I know you're trying to keep this simple but would you at some point reverse these? (R)LLR? For us idiots that would want to eventually develop the flam ambidextrously? Lol.
