It’s addictive, that’s why. There is a huge issue with this. There doesn’t seem to be a difference between collecting and addiction despite me trying to tell myself otherwise. I love perfume and the whole process of buying and wearing it BUT I don’t like over consumption. A hard line to walk ❤
Yes I agree. I am trying to buy fewer and just sample even more this year. So far I've bought 3 fragrances in two months, which is not bad but I am trying to slow down further. I've finished 3 so far this year too. I am someone who will never say, "you need this!" Or use affiliate links to benefit from people's consumption (if you look around at other channels my size, that is very very unusual, because people want to make money sadly) because I recognise that can be really damaging for some people watching to be encouraged further. I just make my videos to talk about fragrances and about what I enjoy about the whole subject. Good luck in reducing or limiting your consumption this year. 🥰

When I originally tried it, that licorice/anise vibe was not for me. But now that tastes have changed, it would be interesting to try it again. It IS lovely to get gifts from others! I actually felt quite embarrassed having purchased so many but many of these were gifts or wins too. I feel like I am not a channel that reviews new releases in the main so I just buy what I want for me not to show on my channel or even to talk about in general 🙃 I'm quite strange like that... lolita Lempicka was not at all what I imagined when I finally tried it. Yes I think similar for me. I keep one and it does make me think about it, but it doesn't stop me. I think if you take out the ones fragrances I've won and been gifted, it's probably a similar amount for me really. I do want to cycle through a few before I bring in too many more. I can't store more than I have now really. I managed to finish a few over the summer thankfully. Have a fab Sunday 🥰
I think that line is full of gems. I always go try one when I go to Harvey Nichols. I think really there's only been oud ispahan that was a total no for me. And that was just because it was so so strong! I think you would love belle de jour. It's discontinued but it's pear and honey and if you go to a Dior counter, they usually still have testers and larger sized bottles for sale. It was the nicest pear I've smelt!
Yes the bottle is stunning, I think it's the shiso that I am really not sure about. I never smelt it elsewhere so I'm not definite but I think that's my issue with it... 🥰
How sweet of your husband to buy you that enormous bottle of Burning Cherry. I find it a bit lacking in longevity so the 100 ml is probably the way to go! ❤

I loved this run through of perfumes you've acquired this year 🙂 I wish I got fragrances as gifts! Ironically the more into it I've got, the less my partner buys me perfumes as now he's intimidated by my pickiness/passion haha! I think I've bought 16 perfumes this year, but I run pretty much a one in, one out policy as I don't like to go above 50 bottles...so this is due to me finding things I love and knowing I will enjoy/wear them more than things I have fallen a little out of love with. I've sampled so much this year thanks to London trips and being able to purchase small decants from Facebook groups, which is really handy, but also fuels the constant sniffing of new things which inevitably sometimes leads to more purchases.
It's a good way to be Emma, one in one out is what I would really like to achieve 🤣 I get it! My family just ask me before they buy anything now... I love your videos. I'm sick in bed and watching. I have a big 4 ounce bottle of Rogue by Rihanna. I got it after I used up a 7.5 ml bottle during the wintertime in the US one year. I loved it so much when I returned home (I live in the Caribbean) I ordered the biggest bottle. It doesn't smell the same in this weather. Rogue is probably better suited for cooler weather but I keep the bottle because the scent reminds me of a great trip.

It's a really good designer fragrance, it's distinctive and the oakmoss gives it a very grounded feeling. It's something that would work well as a signature scent 👌
I love the original Chloe Nomade EDP! Surprisingly, my husband is intrigued by it and really likes it, too. So, I guess it's also sexy??? LOL I have a back-up bottle of it ;)

I've been purchasing Deep Night for so long now because the overall vibe of the fragrance suited my Gothic attire. However, the last time it got reformulated was in 2021 where production moved from Paris to the UK, and it hasn't smelt as "deep / dark" as it used to For me, this was the closest i could get to a gothic perfume that didn't require me to take a chance on spending an arm and a leg on an indie product that will likely stop production a few years after its release. But post reformulation it got more sweeter, more feminine, as you said the dry down start smelling more weird, and the initial spray changed to me aswell. I miss how unisex it used to smell. Since i can't find anything like how it used to smell, I now purchase it and pair it with a more fresh smelling fragrance (Superdrug Blossom Body Mist; inspired by alien mugler) so as to "unfeminise" and add more dynamic to the perfume. I still remain so disappointed by the change.
Ooh I also have that body mist. I really wish I had tried Deep Night many years back. I wonder whether there was some issue with an ingredient, perhaps supply or regulations or costs, which made them reformulate. It's a real shame when you've loved something for a long time and it suddenly isn't what it always was. I hope you find a nice gothic fragrance. I have a few that I would regard as gothic, all designer but weirdly, all discontinued... perhaps that vibe is out of fashion, it's a shame, because it's something I really enjoy. While watching this I randomly googled Bottega Veneta EDP and found a bottle and so I ordered it. I hadn't seen it for ages and so thank you for reminding me that I wanted it! 😄 I've gone on a bit of a birthday binge this month and so I need to start a no-buy until Christmas. There’s always an excuse for the need and then there’s the dilemma of what should I let go, only to hang on as maybe I’ll like it better or a future love perhaps. Yes for sure! I have those emotional connections with a lot of my collection, meaning that I keep some perfumes that I simply don't wear because they have a special memory attached. I really would like to get my collection back to around 100 but right now it's more like 120. 🤦♀️ Black orchid is one that you have to wait with. You got some great deals. Buying partials and getting some things that you've wanted a long time is so fun. It's not outrageously expensive that way either. Yes, sampling is a huge help to me. Even when I love a sample, if I just get the travel size, sometimes I realize that I don't want a full bottle. 9 times out of 10 tests, I don't want that fragrance. Keeping that thought helps me hold back from blind buying. A couple blind buys every year, that you have no way of sampling, is not a big deal. Especially if you can just sell it on. I was planning to show perfumes I picked up this summer. Fun video to see how your tastes are leaning. 🎉❤🎉❤

I often am done with something after 10-20ml, so it makes more sense for me to pick up small bottles or partials, I don't need more than 20ml of anything these days, my collection is too big ☺️ I agree with you that nothing stops me buying like sampling. I like Lolita Lempika (have the new version), but prefer LolitaLand by that brand. If you like it and LPRN Black Perfecto, you would probably enjoy Tardes. It gives me a Black Perfecto vibe, but without the leather, kind of powdery and a bit fresh.❤ (wore it today 😊) I'm actually decluttering Ghost. Something feels plasticky to me in that fragrance... I like my 10ml of Velvet Orchid, but ig it smell "boss lady" a d slightly austere to me, so I don't wear it very often. Great video with a bunch of very diverse fragrances. Thanks.
I have Costarella from Carner but that's all I've tried. Tardes is on my list! 👍 I agree, there was something not right about the drydown of deep night at all. None of the three I've tried have attracted me really. I think Ghost might not be a brand for me. I wore velvet orchid lots in the spring but I'm sure it will come back out for autumn. I've just bought fracas by Robert Piguet. It was a blind buy and I bought it because I've read it was a very strong white floral. I don't know if there's something wrong with my nose but all I get is a slight creaminess and nothing more.
That's interesting! I just won Robert Piguet Bandit in a giveaway, but I didn't get it to try it yet. I've smelt fracas in a shop briefly and yes, it was creamy and actually not as strong as I had imagined it. It was along the same lines as Madonna truth or dare just without the fizziness that I smell in that fragrance. Maybe come back to it after a week or so? I hope you get more from it. 🥰
I just spritzed my bottle of Velvet Orchid- I haven’t worn it for awhile; it’s about 5 years old and smells gorgeous (think it may have improved with age). The Burning Cherry will be my next purchase 😊 Yes - the Bottega Veneta has the loveliest suede. I picked up a 5 ml sample size for $1 from a charity store.
I really do think the orchid line gets better as it ages. My black orchid is several years old now and smells absolutely amazing! Burning cherry is a good one, but the longevity it a little lacking sometimes for me (not always). Hi, Claire! Yes, Rihanna's Rogue is really similar to Bottega Veneta EDP. But Rogue is a bit sweeter and more flowery I guess. It's like a 'girly' version of Bottega Veneta, and it's definitely worth a try 🙂
I have Rihanna's Rogue and bought it because of its similarity to Bottega Veneta edp or thats what it says on Fragrantica - but Rogue is a beast in sillage and longevity and less is more - and is very fruity and cyclamen-y. I never smelled Bottega, unfortunately, couldn't find it anywhere .... I like Rogue well enough to have gotten two bottles at 125ml each....oh well...
And here I thought I was doing so well. I thought I couldn't have bought 40 perfumes. In fact, I got up to 64 and didn't have the heart to keep counting... In my defense, about three-quarters were travel sizes and about one-quarter were 30 ml. And of course, everything was on sale. I changed my habit of mindlessly trolling through perfume sites and only responded to emails of sales of particular houses I was interested in. So I guess I'll just remain incorrigible.
I think the shift to having a wishlist for me has been a game changer. Clearly I still swoop if I see something to that is seemingly too good to leave but I feel much better about my purchases in general this year ☺️ I think the shift to smaller bottles and travel sizes can save you so much money when you have a larger collection. The Chopard one is literally like eating a herbal lemon boiled sweet, like a Riccola sweet if you have had those? The Chopard bottles are wow because even the lid is glass! So unusual! I know, but I really try to sample rather than purchase bottles. I do have a long wishlist 🤣 Kayali are worth trying, their social media marketing puts a lot of people off I think, but they are good value compared with mainstream designer fragrances.

Haha hopefully it won't. I'd suggest musk or utopia or déjà vu as ones to try first. Those are the easiest to like I think, but that of course depends on what your scent preferences are, you might love the vanillas or the woody ambers. 🙂

Chloe Nomade edp is one of my favourites too Claire and I'm getting through my 30ml too quickly 😢 Definitely signature scent worthy and unisex imo. On first wearing my daughter said I smelt like a luxury hotel!

I have two backup bottle of angel muse EDP and 1 of the EDT. There's just something about it and it works as a great base for some fragrances. I love it with Kilians Angels Share.

I got Lolita Lempicka forever ago with my aunt (who is no longer around 😢) and I think of her when I wear it. Haven't worn it in quite a while, but it's probably gonna get some more wear this autumn.

Me! I'm the suede note (accord?) fanatic 🙂 I'm always on a hunt to find more perfumes (even if it's just a tiny sample) with a prominent suede note. Sadly, Bottega wasn't it for me. I guess the suede note wasn't prominent enough for me personally. Do you have another "suede favorite"?
I was curious and ordered the original Burberry weekend. It made me feel almost physically ill. I think it’s the peach. Maybe the bottle I got was off… who knows. Too bad bc I do like the bottle.
Yeah it's not one for me either 😂 the musk is very dirty to me and not in a good way and yeah the fuzzy peach is also a no. It was a gift so I wasn't rude but I think it will be a declutter for me also...
Wondering what you think about the addiction side of perfume collecting ? 40 in a year is more than you could use. I am in the process of stopping collecting but it’s hard and I recognise the addictive side of it :)
I've talked about it a bit in this video where I discuss the advice I'd give myself if I were starting my collection again. ua-cam.com/video/ded4DfHxlzA/v-deo.html Really the big thing is to spend time with your purchases before you move on to the next thing. I think people need to remember that buying is not you enjoying your fragrances. I think I've realised that I was, and to some extent, still am, an emotional buyer. I am now trying to use a wishlist to guide my purchasing but also just sampling loads more and I think it's mostly working. This last month I bought two sample sets and one travel spray that had been on my list for 5 months. I think too, I am realising that I need to let go of things that don't work for me much quicker than I previously was doing. I'm not saying that I didn't buy a lot last year, I actually do videos where I tot up my spending and check it against other years, so you can actually see the number of bottles and the amount that I've spent, but I would also bet that my spending and bottles in is only a fraction of many other channels. They just don't share their numbers... My aim is to move my collection back towards 100 bottles but without dramatic decluttering. I am currently at about 115, so I'm not doing too badly. Hi, what is your opinion about the health aspects of spraying perfumes on your skin that are not described as clean? Do you try to spray on your clothes to not spray as much on your body? Or maybe in the scheme of things, of all the preventative health factors, it is not that big an issue? I like your sharing of your humanness, that you occasionally make a mistake . I don't have a problem at all with spraying fragrances on skin. I think clean is a really loosely defined term that is somewhat meaningless to me. My understanding is that there isn't any scientifically defined definition of what it is. I feel like it's mostly a marketing thing. I'm not a dermatologist though, I'm a geneticist, so probably not the best person to ask! 🤣 And yes, everyone makes mistakes, especially with fragrances. It's easy to be sucked into an idea that isn't the reality with them. 🥰

I know fragrance just has this way of sucking you down a rabbit hole. It's easy to buy a lot very quickly and not even realise to an extent. My collection grew between 30-80 very quickly when I first started watching UA-cam.

I blind bought ghost deep night as I liked the original ghost from the 90's I hated deep night straight away it's quite nauseous inducing the die down is similar to urine and that's the truth
I think it's been reformulated. Mine was the older version as I bought mine secondhand, but yes there was something I really disliked about it on the drydown and it was a near instant declutter!

It’s addictive, that’s why. There is a huge issue with this. There doesn’t seem to be a difference between collecting and addiction despite me trying to tell myself otherwise. I love perfume and the whole process of buying and wearing it BUT I don’t like over consumption. A hard line to walk ❤
Yes I agree. I am trying to buy fewer and just sample even more this year. So far I've bought 3 fragrances in two months, which is not bad but I am trying to slow down further. I've finished 3 so far this year too. I am someone who will never say, "you need this!" Or use affiliate links to benefit from people's consumption (if you look around at other channels my size, that is very very unusual, because people want to make money sadly) because I recognise that can be really damaging for some people watching to be encouraged further. I just make my videos to talk about fragrances and about what I enjoy about the whole subject. Good luck in reducing or limiting your consumption this year. 🥰

I actually felt quite embarrassed having purchased so many but many of these were gifts or wins too. I feel like I am not a channel that reviews new releases in the main so I just buy what I want for me not to show on my channel or even to talk about in general 🙃 I'm quite strange like that... lolita Lempicka was not at all what I imagined when I finally tried it. Yes I think similar for me. I keep one and it does make me think about it, but it doesn't stop me. I think if you take out the ones fragrances I've won and been gifted, it's probably a similar amount for me really. I do want to cycle through a few before I bring in too many more. I think that line is full of gems. I always go try one when I go to Harvey Nichols. I think really there's only been oud ispahan that was a total no for me. And that was just because it was so so strong! I think you would love belle de jour. It's discontinued but it's pear and honey and if you go to a Dior counter, they usually still have testers and larger sized bottles for sale. It was the nicest pear I've smelt!
Lemon Dulci is one of those scents where I just love the bottle so much more than the perfume inside 😂
Yes the bottle is stunning, I think it's the shiso that I am really not sure about. I never smelt it elsewhere so I'm not definite but I think that's my issue with it... 🥰

I loved this run through of perfumes you've acquired this year 🙂 I wish I got fragrances as gifts! Ironically the more into it I've got, the less my partner buys me perfumes as now he's intimidated by my pickiness/passion haha! I think I've bought 16 perfumes this year, but I run pretty much a one in, one out policy as I don't like to go above 50 bottles...so this is due to me finding things I love and knowing I will enjoy/wear them more than things I have fallen a little out of love with. I've sampled so much this year thanks to London trips and being able to purchase small decants from Facebook groups, which is really handy, but also fuels the constant sniffing of new things which inevitably sometimes leads to more purchases.
It's a good way to be Emma, one in one out is what I would really like to achieve 🤣 I get it! My family just ask me before they buy anything now... I think they are scared 🤣

I love your videos. I'm sick in bed and watching. I have a big 4 ounce bottle of Rogue by Rihanna. I got it after I used up a 7.5 ml bottle during the wintertime in the US one year. I loved it so much when I returned home (I live in the Caribbean) I ordered the biggest bottle. It doesn't smell the same in this weather. Rogue is probably better suited for cooler weather but I keep the bottle because the scent reminds me of a great trip.

I've been purchasing Deep Night for so long now because the overall vibe of the fragrance suited my Gothic attire. However, the last time it got reformulated was in 2021 where production moved from Paris to the UK, and it hasn't smelt as "deep / dark" as it used to
For me, this was the closest i could get to a gothic perfume that didn't require me to take a chance on spending an arm and a leg on an indie product that will likely stop production a few years after its release. But post reformulation it got more sweeter, more feminine, as you said the dry down start smelling more weird, and the initial spray changed to me aswell. I miss how unisex it used to smell.
Since i can't find anything like how it used to smell, I now purchase it and pair it with a more fresh smelling fragrance (Superdrug Blossom Body Mist; inspired by alien mugler) so as to "unfeminise" and add more dynamic to the perfume. I still remain so disappointed by the change.
Ooh I also have that body mist. I really wish I had tried Deep Night many years back. I wonder whether there was some issue with an ingredient, perhaps supply or regulations or costs, which made them reformulate. It's a real shame when you've loved something for a long time and it suddenly isn't what it always was. I hope you find a nice gothic fragrance. I have a few that I would regard as gothic, all designer but weirdly, all discontinued... perhaps that vibe is out of fashion, it's a shame, because it's something I really enjoy. While watching this I randomly googled Bottega Veneta EDP and found a bottle and so I ordered it. I hadn't seen it for ages and so thank you for reminding me that I wanted it! 😄 I've gone on a bit of a birthday binge this month and so I need to start a no-buy until Christmas. Yes for sure! I have those emotional connections with a lot of my collection, meaning that I keep some perfumes that I simply don't wear because they have a special memory attached. I really would like to get my collection back to around 100 but right now it's more like 120. 🤦♀️

You got some great deals. Buying partials and getting some things that you've wanted a long time is so fun. It's not outrageously expensive that way either.
Yes, sampling is a huge help to me. Even when I love a sample, if I just get the travel size, sometimes I realize that I don't want a full bottle. 9 times out of 10 tests, I don't want that fragrance. Keeping that thought helps me hold back from blind buying. A couple blind buys every year, that you have no way of sampling, is not a big deal. Especially if you can just sell it on.

I wore velvet orchid lots in the spring but I'm sure it will come back out for autumn. It's quite a put together fragrance, I agree, it's not one to wear on the sofa at home, which is where I tend to be a lot of the time! 🤣

I've just bought fracas by Robert Piguet. It was a blind buy and I bought it because I've read it was a very strong white floral. I don't know if there's something wrong with my nose but all I get is a slight creaminess and nothing more.
That's interesting! I just won Robert Piguet Bandit in a giveaway, but I didn't get it to try it yet. I've smelt fracas in a shop briefly and yes, it was creamy and actually not as strong as I had imagined it. It was along the same lines as Madonna truth or dare just without the fizziness that I smell in that fragrance. Maybe come back to it after a week or so? I hope you get more from it. 🥰

Yes - the Bottega Veneta has the loveliest suede. I picked up a 5 ml sample size for $1 from a charity store.
I really do think the orchid line gets better as it ages. My black orchid is several years old now and smells absolutely amazing!
Burning cherry is a good one, but the longevity it a little lacking sometimes for me (not always). I have layered it with invite only and with vanilla 28 but I like it best on its own still ☺️

Hi, Claire! Yes, Rihanna's Rogue is really similar to Bottega Veneta EDP. But Rogue is a bit sweeter and more flowery I guess. It's like a 'girly' version of Bottega Veneta, and it's definitely worth a try 🙂

I have Rihanna's Rogue and bought it because of its similarity to Bottega Veneta edp or thats what it says on Fragrantica - but Rogue is a beast in sillage and longevity and less is more - and is very fruity and cyclamen-y. I never smelled Bottega, unfortunately, couldn't find it anywhere .... I like Rogue well enough to have gotten two bottles at 125ml each....oh well...
I'd say bottega Veneta is long lasting but quite gentle. Closer to skin. Rogue sounds pretty good if you bought two bottles 👍

And here I thought I was doing so well. I thought I couldn't have bought 40 perfumes. In fact, I got up to 64 and didn't have the heart to keep counting... In my defense, about three-quarters were travel sizes and about one-quarter were 30 ml. And of course, everything was on sale. I changed my habit of mindlessly trolling through perfume sites and only responded to emails of sales of particular houses I was interested in.
So I guess I'll just remain incorrigible.
I think the shift to having a wishlist for me has been a game changer. Clearly I still swoop if I see something to that is seemingly too good to leave but I feel much better about my purchases in general this year ☺️ I think the shift to smaller bottles and travel sizes can save you so much money when you have a larger collection. I know, but I really try to sample rather than purchase bottles. I do have a long wishlist 🤣 Kayali are worth trying, their social media marketing puts a lot of people off I think, but they are good value compared with mainstream designer fragrances.

Haha hopefully it won't. I'd suggest musk or utopia or déjà vu as ones to try first. Those are the easiest to like I think, but that of course depends on what your scent preferences are, you might love the vanillas or the woody ambers. 🙂

Well it's not my intention to buy much more this year. I have weirdly won a lot of giveaways, I have won two more since this video aired, so I've been quite lucky. I have two backup bottle of angel muse EDP and 1 of the EDT. There's just something about it and it works as a great base for some fragrances. I love it with Kilians Angels Share.

Yes, so unique and it could be a love for me. I purchased a mini 7.5 mil Jasmin des Anges because of you and it’s beautiful. Thinking I might wear Pearles de Lalique today - seems like perhaps a good transitional scent and I have not worn it in a long long time.

Yes I’ve been sampling almost exclusively lately, I just had a couple orders of samples arrive and I’m having fun playing around with them! One or two are going on my wishlist for a full bottle, but mostly I just like smelling them to satisfy my curiosity!! 😅
Yes Frances is really lovely. One of the first people to support and welcome me and I try to support little channels as much as possible now because I remember how hard it was starting out and how welcoming and lovely she was to me.

40 in a year is more than you could use. I am in the process of stopping collecting but it’s hard and I recognise the addictive side of it :)

Really the big thing is to spend time with your purchases before you move on to the next thing. I think people need to remember that buying is not you enjoying your fragrances.
I think I've realised that I was, and to some extent, still am, an emotional buyer. I am now trying to use a wishlist to guide my purchasing but also just sampling loads more and I think it's mostly working. This last month I bought two sample sets and one travel spray that had been on my list for 5 months. I think too, I am realising that I need to let go of things that don't work for me much quicker than I previously was doing.
I'm not saying that I didn't buy a lot last year, I actually do videos where I tot up my spending and check it against other years, so you can actually see the number of bottles and the amount that I've spent, but I would also bet that my spending and bottles in is only a fraction of many other channels. They just don't share their numbers...
My aim is to move my collection back towards 100 bottles but without dramatic decluttering. I am currently at about 115, so I'm not doing too badly. Thanks for watching 🥰

Hi, what is your opinion about the health aspects of spraying perfumes on your skin that are not described as clean? Do you try to spray on your clothes to not spray as much on your body? Or maybe in the scheme of things, of all the preventative health factors, it is not that big an issue? I like your sharing of your humanness, that you occasionally make a mistake . I am a pretty sensible person, but I also sometimes make errors in judgment. Thanks!
I don't have a problem at all with spraying fragrances on skin. I think clean is a really loosely defined term that is somewhat meaningless to me. My understanding is that there isn't any scientifically defined definition of what it is. I feel like it's mostly a marketing thing. I'm not a dermatologist though, I'm a geneticist, so probably not the best person to ask! 🤣
And yes, everyone makes mistakes, especially with fragrances. It's easy to be sucked into an idea that isn't the reality with them. 🥰
I love the smell of 4 of the Dior privee fragrances. They are Gris Dior, vanilla diorama, lucky and Sakura

I know fragrance just has this way of sucking you down a rabbit hole. It's easy to buy a lot very quickly and not even realise to an extent. My collection grew between 30-80 very quickly when I first started watching UA-cam.

I think it's been reformulated. Mine was the older version as I bought mine secondhand, but yes there was something I really disliked about it on the drydown and it was a near instant declutter!
