This is such a great clear message. I wonder how many people with anxiety, stress and depression could be helped just by watching this video rather that the meds our society prescribes for such issues. I will be practising this technique because from my research it really does seem beneficial for many many people. Thanks for making this video

Thank you. My hope is one day mindfulness will be used in conjunction with medication in every consultation, and you are right - it should probably be used instead in many instances. I have researched this thoroughly too and it is not often that trials are stopped because the mindfulness arm is superior to the other arm of the study!

I have mild depression and anxiety. I am a long time and frequent mediator. Unfortunately, although it helps... I still need to take my medication. But this is a basic example of meditation. I would not say this is mindful meditation. It's just meditation in it's basic form. I've recently started to recognize and practice specific breathing patterns and exercises with meditation and doing this allows you go go a lot deeper and reach those "altered states" we hear so much about. Very exciting stuff. The deeper meditation might do it if done consistently. I can't see it being a cure though. Only a treatment or part of.

The medication has improved my life dramatically. Very little side effects for me, if any at all. One of the lucky ones here that found something that works very quickly. But I agree with you in that it's a shit road to take. While I'm on the medication I'm figuring out ways to cope and manage symptoms with little cognitive theory strategies and slowly building some emotional intelligence in hopes I'll be able to manage without medication in the future. Medication isn't an end all. Just helps you stay stable enough to grow emotionally without interruption.

+Travis McGrath I agree with you, there is too much negativity about medication. We are of the view of whatever gets you on the right path with minimal disruption. SSRIs are probably better than St Johns Wort as they are cleaner.

This is mind training. Mindfulness is just observing the mind activity as it is. The mind activity may consist of thoughts, emotions, insights, feelings, sense of breath etc. Observing them as they are and as they arise. One moment a thought may be apparent, then breath, then may be an insight, again breath may be apparent, then an expectation, an insight, breath, breath, compassion, etc. Just observing without trying to remove or breed is Mindfulness.

I agree there seems to be a confusion here, around what mindfulness actually is.... it's certainly not controling the mind, but it's a technique to help develop the optimum conditions for the mind to naturally settle itself and drop into stillness, and for the habits of the mind to be understood, how thought, emotion, desire, aversion and all the other phenomenon of the mind, and of being human, manifest themselves, so that with deep understanding we can start the journey towards ending our own suffering, and charting our own course through life, with insight and clarity....

Sitting calm in one place is not the only way to medidate. Any activity which we do at full concentration with no mind wandering is simply the medidation. There are few people who's their work itself is a medidation. Creativity will be at finest.

I am in a very meditative state...i.e. the flow........when I'm cutting pieces for a collage project; or when I'm concentrating on the message, meaning, motive, mission of the piece I'm working on. I'm an editor and creative communications designer, so when I'm in the flow, I am very focused...almost hyper focused and have to pull myself out of it for awhile to rest my mind. I can get very "HYPER" leading to some labeling me as ADHD when I'm actually being very MINDFUL of what I'm engaged in.
I think this word "Mindfulness" has lost it's abstractness...it's developed one meaning only; which is being used as a blanket to cover many facets of what it actually conveys. I can be very "MIND-FULL" as I am processing information, analyzing knowledge, considering the wisdom of the ages and sages...dreaming and imagining my future through envisioning in quiet meditation of that vision...
I'm "IN THE PRESENT" with the Past and Possible as they merge there in that moment.
To give a word one simple definition and apply it to the whole of the population is to diminish that word and it's power to affect people on an individual basis.

      1) Desinfecteren is key

This approach can be critiqued according to 2 different perspectives. 1. It is not trauma informed. As shown it works unless you have an entrenched trauma state, in which case it is not only impossible, but makes the traumatized person once again feel defeated and broken, contradicting "First. do no harm." 2. As Janitha below comments, the way breath is used is mere mind training. The video is out of date because the newer neuroscience about Default Mode Networks adds to the understanding described as "brain spends much of it time solving future problems." That same mind concludes it needs to make itself stop. The wisdom comes from understanding of BREATH. It is NOT observing breath; saying it that way does not reveal that the same undisciplined mind will take the advice to heart and observe the breath. This too is mind activity, and once one leaves the cushion, it stops the practice and returns to inner turmoil. The difficult step is to recognize the DMN and NOT displace it while maintaining attention and concentration. I invite you to take on the task of incorporating this info into a revised version of your video.

Good presentation, brief and to the point. As I understand the comments, it seems that some question if the presentation shows mind training or mindfulness. I would say that we must learn to walk before running. The mind training of meditation is only somewhat useful if we can not use the same concepts throughout the day.
Mind training shows us how to more control our thoughts when not meditating and doing other tasks.

some mislending in this video. exp:first, mindfulness is not only abt brain, its for whole body, interm of this, heart is far more important than brain. sec, the real meaning for present is not mean the period of time now occurring, present in mediatation is means free for psycology time.

i disagree and believe mindfulness is actually mindlessness. Just as the Ying Yang goes there must be a balance between the two, negativity can offer alot of self reflection and constructive criticism. We live in a very narcissistic world where "mindfulness" can do more harm than good, when you consider the hard truth to face that we are all addicted to short term pleasures and rewards you realize that maybe it isnt good to focus on solely the present and the things that make us feel good and that you need negative reflection to change the things you hate about yourself that you know deep down need to change. Simply giving into the world is NOT a power its giving up, it being a sheep! Focusing on the good more than the bad is not how you master life. I believe this "mindfulness" is being used to further push the masses into impulsive short term thinking.

You can be at mindful state anytime. Mindfulness is being in the moment. You can be mindful in every action that you take. Mindfulness is not boring for example you're watching the sunset when you apply mindfulness in it you'll appreciate the sunset more and feel it better because you're focusing on the present and what's happening in that time
