@@aaronthewhiz3160 Same way you would get a normal tune done…. You can order a tune as well, most high-end German performance companies offer it alone or as part of a complete tune package.
It has a adaptive transmission. It means if you drive it like a grandma, it will behave nice and smooth. If you drive it enthusiastically, it will reward you with great driving pleasure. Electric power windows, mirrors and seats are prone to not work on higher mileage cars. Also body tends to rust because of poor anti corrosion procedures Mercedes used in that era. You should do another review, but this time remove Electronic Stability Program fuse under the bonnet and enjoy the real beast of car that this actually is.
Thanks for the great video. I bought my 2001 CLK 55 AMG in Oct 2019. Just clicked over 200,000kms. I love her! The sound of the V8 and her styling are what got me in! She reminds me in styling of the 1968 Holden Monaro here in Australia.

I’ve had mine since 2007 and it’s still awesome. Did a video a few years back of me changing the brakes & rotors. Will replace the driver’s door actuator soon. The cars just hold up and the motors are solid. Mine needs a repaint but that will be later down the road.

I had this car in the same color combination. It was one of the finest machines I've ever owned. Powerful and reliable. Strangely, I never noticed the accelerator lag you are referring to. My only complaint was that Mercedes had not yet gone to rack and pinion steering in this model, and I found steering feel to be a bit "loose" as a result. That said, I still miss the car. It was wonderful in many ways.
Nice video just came across this. I'm the lucky owner of a C208 CLK 55 AMG and have it now for more than 12 years. It's been an absolute pleasure driving it and utterly reliable. The manual shifting or rather manually restricting up shift is adaptive. The automatic transmission in the AMG versions have Speed shift and adaption to the driver. It'll adjust in time to the way you drive. You'll be able to find details on how to reset the adaptation on UA-cam. Reset the Shift computer will alter the shift response. I think these CLK's are very much under the radar but are a rare kind of coupé. You can cruise or drive like its stolen. The joy of driving, near bulletproof engine and gearbox, reliability and low maintenance cost offset the lurking rust monster at work. That's about the only gremlin, the rust issue.

Hoses and seals followed and the starter and alt, along with broken knobs, slipping tranny, not to mention GAS in this thing😂😂. The Gas tank leaks. Paint is peeling. Lifters are clicking. But shes my baby!!!! Sexy B. Clean. Safe. Always fast. Puts street cars to zzzzz. Im restoring her. Little by little. About 20k to go. Just wanted to chime in. (Yes i have a rust hole in the passanger floor board😂😂😂😂😂). Also. The plastic melts in the center. Florida😂😂😂. Did i mention windshield washer mec. And foglights? Oh wait not the interior peeling…..😂😂😂😂 I think i still have the owners book in the BROkEN glove box😂 Im curious about the shifting. Had a flush done. Now its a hard shift to drive. Ive always counted 4 shits before 70 mph. Correct?
Good review for an excellent car, thank you. A couple of comments: - the weight of this car is more around 1600 kg, so you will never get to 2 tons, other than you being really...heavy! - having been the happy owner of a clk 320 V6 and now this clk 55 amg, I noticed that comfort is extremely sensitive to the size of the rims, and 18 inches is very different of stock 17 inches (much more bumpy)

I have a 2001 that I purchased in 2008 $14,500 with 55,000. it now has 118,000 miles on it. Easy to self maintain. I realized what I had and wanted to slow down the miles I put on. So I bought a 2000 CLK430, there is many of these around, this one was different. It seemed faster and it shifts firmer than a standard CLK430. I've had this car for over six years and found out from a mechanic, he said look under the hood near the passenger side at the factory sticker and it will describe the car. This car says it is a CLK430/C43AMG. There is no AMG badge on the car like my CLK55, but it is fun to drive. I don't know if the value is more, but I was recently offered $5,000 for a car a purchased six years ago for $3300.

I feel like people keep forgetting this car is just over 20 years old now, the interior and exterior design is from much older generations designers and at that time this was outstanding for a car’s interior, only downside is that the car now feels dated given that entry level hondas and Toyotas can easily beat it in terms of interior.
Back then having an adustable seat controls on the door, lumbar support, automatic windows, and an electronic dash/menu was considered luxury. But most of which is now considered standard. If I were to add anything to this car it would be to upgrade the console to have that hud menu that most w209s or other w208s have as a optional console upgrade, and fit that console with a back up camera system.

These cars are going up as I'm sure you know, an XKR same spec as mine are now advertised for 10k more than 3 years ago. I've moved money out the bank into an XJS & Daimler Double Six (Japanese - no rust) as fun investments.
What a difference a few months makes... These cars seem to be rocketing in value. So if your lucky enough to own one of these better keep it.... Mercedes UK only sold 250 of these cars in the and theses less than 50 left on the road in the UK...... And there are currently 12 left on the road today 👍🏻
Perhaps my 'gold mine?' caption was a bit exaggerated but it does seem like they are becoming more desirable and following the trend of other second hand cars. They are great fun to drive too!

They did come with 17 in standard form however Dealer options and specs are different as in this case The first owner had added wheels from the Carlson model And a very hefty price of 5k As the original bill states A lot of people buy them after market and put the Carlson body kit on I won’t be doing this

I own and drive this car every day. It’s one of the fastest lightweight Mercedes could ever drive even if it was the heaviest the aerodynamics in the way it was built makes it float like a butterfly.
Checking in the wood trim has been a problem with Mercedes since the 70’s (bmw has the same problem) so what decade of Mercedes quality are you referring to? Also, I beat the hell out of mine everyday for 6 straight years… replaced motor mounts (when you hang the tail out bouncing off the limiter, it’s to be expected) and two batteries. That’s it! Oh, set of brake pads…. Otherwise just maintenance…. Oil, tires… It shifted exactly the same as I bought after 100k of my abuse on top of the 60k I bought it with. Same experience with my CLK 430. I heavily abused both cars, same year, only difference is one was a 55 AMG. The one you worked on is presumably still going…. I don’t know what condition the one you worked on is in, but mine was kept up interior and exterior wise when I bought it…. I kept it up as well, but it wasn’t garaged or anything the entire time I owned it… paint was still glossy, dash and seats were perfect, and it was black interior, and summer where I live means 100-112 degrees for months. I’d say that’s a quality product.

The long stuff accelerator pedal is an old Mercedes trait. Also this car weighs nowhere near 2000kg, it is approximately 1600 kg on EC scale .

I’ve been running a 1 owner 2001 CLK320 for the last year and it’s been fantastic. A good rust free C208 is a bit of a bargain.

Oh, set of brake pads…. Otherwise just maintenance…. Oil, tires… It shifted exactly the same as I bought after 100k of my abuse on top of the 60k I bought it with. Same experience with my CLK 430. I heavily abused both cars, same year, only difference is one was a 55 AMG. The one you worked on is presumably still going…. I don’t know what condition the one you worked on is in, but mine was kept up interior and exterior wise when I bought it…. I kept it up as well, but it wasn’t garaged or anything the entire time I owned it… paint was still glossy, dash and seats were perfect, and it was black interior, and summer where I live means 100-112 degrees for months. I’d say that’s a quality product.

Yup. Im 11000 in after buying it for 4010. Only 30k has been during my ownership. (Miles). Its alot. However. Great car. Fast. Classic. You never see 1 ever 😂. (Mine). Ill have it for ever. Its so rare. Money pit. Yea. But i look great in it.
