I have done something similar couple of years back, only the tee was so long (and the print was so awesome I wanted to preserve the length to keep it whole) it ended up a tunic. Inspired by a medieval kirtle, I made the side wedges out of two right angle triangles sewn together on the diagonals, ended up with a cool asymmetric hem that is kinda flattering for larger hips. Highly recommended!
Love this! I tried this recently before seeing this video and didn't taper it as it got to the arm. Turned ok, but this is much better! Can't wait to try this.

I had a pink t shirt that was a bit too tight for me and I used black fabric and they looked sooo cute together instead of the plain pink pink😂. Mixing other colours can make t shirts look cute

Glad it's helpful!
I wish you would have modeled more so it could really be seen. Thanks for your time.

I always have issues when I get to the top of the triangle, sometimes if you need width your arms need it too. Thanks for some great tips !
Yes, you can continue the wedge up through the sleeve too if needed.

I thought about doing a contrast on this one but I couldn't find a blue that matched the graphic so I went with the gray.
@@Mellysews looks good still 👍👍
Another alternative is to use a coordinating color for the wedge as a design element on t-shirts that you can't find a suitable match for.
Sure
Some really good tips Melly, I have a couple of t shirts that I wear for choir that I need to alter so thank you. ( Oh and I'm a Mellie too!) 👍
Hey Mellie!
Will doing this also lengthen the shirt?
No, I didn't add any length.
What is your material? If I buy new fabric what am I buying?
it depends on what your shirt is made of. more on stretch fabric types here mellysews.com/understanding-knit-fabrics-fabric-types/
Would it have been more accurate if you had ironed first
? I don't understand what you mean
Would you be able to show how I could make my tee shirts longer please ?
Same idea, just add fabric to the bottom instead of to the sides.
@@Mellysews How would you do that without it being super obvious and looking awful?
@@NightmareShadows13 either match the original fabric carefully or do it as a contrasting design element.
love your videos!
Thank you!!
What do you mean, the fabric was twisted?
If they cut the shirt off grain, you'll find the seams twisting - one to the front, and the other to the back instead of remaining at the sides.
Awesome 👏🏻
Thanks
