As soon as Momotaro the papa gorilla moves into the next room to eat dinner, Gentaro the eldest son starts messing with Genki.
Genki fought back and a big fight ensued.
Momotaro, who was in the next room, became impatient and started banging on the wall to stop the fight.
Eventually, Gentaro was able to calm down.
This video was taken at Kyoto City Zoo in Jan 2022.

He's lucky daddy was locked up!! Daddy went for that other exit and was going to handle it!!
Genki is in estrus and Gentaro is old enough to sense it but only the alpha can do anything about it and she's on Momotaro all the time and when she's not all about big daddy she's eating and paying attention to Kintaro. The tension I'm sure is nuts. It wouldn't be shocking if Gentaro has to be moved soon. He's getting in old enough to get in alot of trouble with Momotaro.
He is young and full of hormones. Thats a bad combination and that what we are seeing. He doesn't probably understand what he is feeling. He get riled up and he is too powerful especially when the baby comes. A decision will have to be made and Im sure they are working with the International Breeding Program.
So you guys can smell the female gorilla on heat, thru your screen and assume that the son wants some hanky panky action, that's why he's playing up. How bazaar.
She wasn't in estrus, she was still breastfeeding at the time.

Shabani's son Kiyomasa is about the same age as Gentaro. Both boys have crossed the line showing aggressive behavior toward their mothers. Both families are so lovable & so very interesting.
Poor Gentaro he’s such a dear boy. Doesn’t understand what he’s feeling. Not his fault.. it’ll hurt to see him off to start his own family soon but guess that’s natures call 😢😢😢

I think the zookeepers need to start keeping Gentaro in a different room when dad isn't. Poor Genki! Guys if she's trying to get pregnant, she doesn't need this added stress. Hard enough trying to get Momo to mate properly so she can get pregnant. lol Like he has to get closer to the target and 3 seconds won't do it. lmao

Awww! Brave little Kintaro was trying to protect his mom. How sweet!
Don't forget, Gentaro was hand raised those first 8 months or more. She didn't get to bond with him, nor did Momotaro, like they did with Kintaro. So if you see it from his view, although he's close to both parents and all parents love their children, since the very beginning he sees Kintaro receiving most of mom and dad's attention which is also normal for all newborns but he didn't breastfeed, he didn't have all that special time with mom, dad didn't get to meet him as a baby and see how small these gorillas are at birth. Parents always see their kids as kids so it's natural that Momo is very overprotective when it comes to Kintaro. Gentaro just doesn't realize that it's his behavior that is creating a divide with mama Genki and it's Kintaro's behavior (and breastfeeding) that is making her closer to him. All this said, Momo has to stay in the rooms where Genki is at all times to protect her. She is less stressed when he is present i think.
I've followed the family too and your explanation excellently shows the reasons the family interacts as it does. I do feel sorry for Gentara but I adore Kintaro!
When Gentaro was born and Genki’s breast milk was not much, the keepers took him away to raise him themselves. So sad. He got to see Genki through bars. But the keepers kept him for 10 months. The early on bond they would have was marred by the keeper, but I understand they were trying to save Gentaro. The breast milk problem happened again with Kintaro. They changed the approach because she wouldn’t put Kintaro down for 7 months because they took her firstborn for so long. They supplemented Kintaro’s nourishment by teaching Genki to come to a window with bars and allow him to get syringe fed. She didn’t like it but she did. I can only say, HAVE THEY NO ANIMAL BEHAVIORIST ON THE STAFF!?!?

I understand the reasons when he was small but she had 7 yrs with him before Kintaro was born. So why she didn’t bonded with Gentaro in 7 yrs. And Momotoro played a little with Gentaro.
@@stevemorris6790 you are right. Momo played with gentaro every day until kintaro was around two or three. But genki never really bonded with him. They slept together a lot, but she also would attack him every day at dinner time when he tried to eat. She was 10 times worse with gentaro than she has been with kintaro. She would actually bite gentaro when he tried to pick up food.
Genki was not playing with Gentaro.

I also think he is still too attached to Genki. When Momo got sick Gentaro got depressed because dad wasnt there. So moving him will need to be a drawn out thing where he spends less and less time with parents before cutting him offm

It's too much stress for Genki but those are hormonal changes in her son and I don't think he really wants to hurt her, more it seems to attract her attention, but the zookeepers must be vigilant and nothing worse is going to happen.

When will Gentaro be shipped out to another zoo? His cowardly aggression may pose a problem if Genki becomes pregnant again. I loved how Momotaro was on his way to rescue her but unable because of the locked doors preventing him.
Genki is not "fighting", he defends herself! And the always lovable Kintaro at his mother's side bravely tries to stand up for her.
Good thing Momotaro didn't have access, it would be unfortunate if something unpleasant happened.

Gentaro is getting more and more aggressive. When she is pregnant and Gentaro shoves her off the beams or attacks her like he does in this clip it could at her age cause a miscarriage. Leaving him alone without protection for Kintaro or Genki is just going to far and they deserve to be protected from Gentaro. One day its going to be too late to protect them.
I am pretty sure the keepers know how to handle this situation! Think you should trust in their knowledge and abilities! The zoo will separate Gentaro when time is ready for doing so! We all will not be asked what we think about it!

Let's see Genki is 8 mos pregnant and is attacked by Gentaro or pushed off the bars. So many scenarios where she and the baby could die because Gentaro is an angry gorilla.
I agree with you and have voiced that very thing. She is not in the best of health and obese. Carrying full term is going to be if and the baby gets bigger and there is no room left in that belly. Gentaro abusing her physically and emotionally is just adding to what may be a problematic pregnancy anyway. Its better to err on the side of caution and protect Genki.
It looked like he was punching his mom near or in the belly. At any rate that was an attack. Im sure they are aware of this and I hope they are formulating some options to keep Genki safe during this pregnancy. Its obvious that she is not safe with Gentaros behavior toward her. If they cant find him a place they need to separate him from her. The three boys can fen for themselves but a pregnant mom should be protected.
that is a great evidence that genki can still take care of a baby if she is pregnant now. the lady can run fast and swing down a pole like a champ. so one more baby for the momo family, pls God!
What? As she becomes more and more pregnant it is going to get harder and harder for her to fend him off. She is not pregnant now or if she is the fetus is small. When the fetus begins to grow its is going to be difficult anyway because she is obese and the baby will be crowded because there is so much tissue around the uterus. As the fetus grows there will be competition for space where her organs can't function properly. She is high risk for an early birth just because of that. She is elderly and obese. She should have been put on a diet and gotten get weight down. They can put Gentato in the same room the put Momotaro in. Gentaro isn't going to be stupid and attack Momotaro but Genki deserves to be calm during the pregnancy and stop putting her where she has to fend for herself and her unborn baby.

Gentero is first born, and he knows his rights in this troop. Genki fought off Momo when they first met. She's a tough old girl and Gentero LOVES to play and torment her for all the times she's rejected, punched, and got Mo to bully him. You know what they say about payback.....

Gennaro is one big jerk towards his mother lately. Momo needs to whoop his butt and put him into his place. Pre teens yucky age. I hope he outgrows it soon or he might just find him a new zoo to live. Sooner than later. I love you Gentaro. Be nice to your Mom.

I think Gentaro could harm Genti or Kintaro if Momotaro can not stop him. Gentaro needs more supervisión or be removed to begin his own family.
He's bit too young for his own family yet but maybe has to be moved to his own enclosure for a while if he's bothering the others too much.

I get nervous when the older son goes after mom what if she is going to have another baby. He is after her in every video now. I never wanted him to go but now I think he is dangerous to her now I don't know why he attacks her and throws things at her. He is physically mature but emotionally being the baby for 7 years did not predispose him to being welcome anywhere.

Instead of putting those individuals down, perhaps, you would find it less stressful if you didn't watch the videos of this particular group. There are other gorilla families you could watch, though I imagine you would find fault with them, too. You don't strike me as a happy person, which makes me sorry for you.

Gentaro is too powerful and his mother will be pregnant. She should have a happy peaceful pregnancy. She is an older gorilla and pregnancy is risky enough but being attacked by Gentaro could cause her to miscarry and possibly bleed to death. Gentaro needs to be kept away from her for Genki and the future baby during and after pregnancy. He is a ticking time bomb.
