    Dryer sheets....lots of them...everywhere. No mice in 14 years of using them...and plug the exhaust with mini nerf footballs. Car smells “spring fresh” when I take it out of hibernation.

    As far as an oil change. I have always done one just prior to storage. That way any contamination that is in the old oil will not settle in the pan over the winter. And with a fresh oil change prior to storage your ride has one less thing that needs to be done in the spring

      I guess you are storing in a constant temperature heated garage? I changed the oil in mine ahead of storage because the car was new and it was dirty break-in oil. I figured I could just drive on that fresh oil in the spring given that I’m storing at a constant 20 degrees Celsius.

    Non Ethanol gasoline is no longer available in the Toronto area. Shell was the last holdout.

      Yup, bit of a pain. Use Ethanol Shield in it, and Shell 93 at least has less ethanol than most at 8%.

    I recently took my car out of storage after it rained a bit and washed away the salt. I feel the same way about taking the car out instead of letting it idle every couple of weeks.

      The worst thing you can do during the winter months is start the car and let it idle. If you can’t take it around the block a few times to get to operating temperatures so all the fluid are hot, then leave it alone. I also remove the battery and store it in the basement with a trickle charge on it.

    Have a long hair cat so use the brushed hair in the interior and under the hood for mouse and squirrel control. Also used oil has contaminates and acid so oil change before being parked. Stabil in the gas. 55 psi in the tires. Battery tender on the battery. Seems to work for me for 20 seasons of storage and counting.

    I always pour Stabil in gas tank to reduce condensation. I also place an old carpet under the cars while in the garage to prevent any gases or containment’s from the floor getting up into the chassis. I do store a car outside but I made sure to invest in a very high quality car cover. Make sure during the winter when snow and/or ice collects on the car to not try and pull the cover off. Some cheaper brand covers can freeze onto the paint and tear the paint off (from experience). Thanks!

    EXCELLENT TIPS. I LIKE TO PUT IN A GOOD QUALITY FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN CARS FUEL TANK. FILLING WITH HIGH QUALITY FUEL, FRESH OIL IS IMPORTANT, ALL FRESH FLUIDS DUEING STORAGE IS VERY IMPORTANT. TAKE YOUR CAR OUT EVERY TWO MONTHS... DO NOT LET THE CAR RUN FOR 15 MINUTES SITTING... GET IT OUT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, GET THAT OIL FLOWING.

  • @kenvigeant1877
    @kenvigeant1877 3 роки тому

    Great video. I like changing the oil putting good gas in it. Stable gas treatment. Leave it on the trickle charger and monthly start it warm it up and move it back and forth if possible. This will prevent flat spotting tires and circulate fluids. Yes watch for rodents and moisture. And I like changing the oil again in the spring. You can skip the filter since there's no miles on the oil. We are just caretakers

    Just purchased a Ford LTD 1968 and it will be stored in my non-heated garage. I’m putting a vaporsheet and some isolation foam under the car to cut the humidity, changed the oil, filled the gas tank, put some fuel stabilizer, i have an intelligent charger plugued on my battery.
    I don’t have a cover yet… Should I leave a window cracked ?
    Also, should I disconnect the battery and keep it in the house ? Or the charger will save it ? Always stored my car in non-heated places and never had any problems YET

    Any comment on using fuel stabilizer for the winter? I've always used it on my motorcycles. Good point about over-inflating the tires to avoid flat spots. Definitely better than letting the suspension droop on jack stand in my opinion.

    I have been storing my car in a car “barn”, there are maybe. 50-60 cars in the barn. The cars are protected from the elements but the barn is not heated and the floor is compacted dirt. I wonder about the level of humidity and the long term effects of possible rust on the car. The price is really good but if I have to spring for a new paint job and possible rust then the savings are wiped away. Thoughts?

      As I said in another post, the 1 yr I used it in my 70 Z28 and 87 GN, in the Spring, both cars had difficulty starting, and the fuel bowl was filled on the Z. So never again. I’ve been doing this since 1981 in the Z28. I use nothing but Shell Premium fuel that has 0 % ethanol in everything that has a motor/engine.
