- Model Shipways Guns of History Naval Smoothbore Cannon Kit from Model Expo
Item # MS4005 Beautiful wood and metal craftsman kit of the type of cannon found on many square rigged sailing ships on the 1800s.
Check out Chris at Classicplastic101 for a look see at a styrene plastic ship model from Lindberg. A real nice up close look at a plastic ship kit. And subscribe to his channel while you're there.

Looks like that kit would be a lot of fun! Those mini tools you have are pretty cool, saves a lot of time.
Thank you!
It should be noted that Model Shipways is excellent when it comes to replacing parts for their kits. I have received replacement parts from them years after purchasing kits and even parts I damaged were replaced free of charge.
If it is 4" breech ring to muzzle, that would be a reasonable 8' for a 1:24 gun (suitable for one which is to represent something in the range of 'short 18' to 'long 6pdr' though the kit doesn't indicate off-hand what this piece represents.
To be at 1/16th, it would only be a 5'4" gun - a length only found in field artillery of around the 6pdr (light) to 3pdr (heavy) mark or naval 4 or 3 pdrs.
I think at least the gun blank is *supposed* to be 1/24th

Lindberg Blackbeard Pirate Ship 1/250
Thanks for the video.
I am planning to add lashing for all the cannon in the Lindberg jolly roger scale 1/130
yes I know this will be very difficult because of the scale but I have done it once before.
I have just finished building a .177 caliber canon from scratch, It was painstaking but came out very nice, close to this style, I used cigar box wood for the carriage, I was able to correctly drill the steel bore using my home lathe. I would like to use this model to show off my cannon.
I've bought some of the expensive MicroMark tools, but now I'll be checking Harbor Freight, particularly for the chop saw. Thanks for the video and good ideas.
confusing as to scale but probably 1 / 16 size scale with 24 representing probably a 24 pounder cannon
Did you ever complete this kit and do a build video? I just purchased this same kit and seeing a build of it would be cool.
Haven't done it yet, but it's on my short list and I will do a video. ;)
Looking forward to it.
I was thinking about getting this after seeing the review I'm getting it. Awesome review thank you. by far the go to guy about models keep up the good work
I'm currently building this kit and am having a lot of fun. I'd like to pass along that I have bought a number of kits from Model Expo. If you're missing a part or even better, screw up a part, just call them, talk to Frank and they'll send the replacement part right out. I've bought a number of their Guns of History and Model Shipways ship kits, both through their eBay store or their website. They are all quality. They often have great sales on their website.
Thanks for the info. I have since bought another kit from them and everything went well, they even tossed in a bottle of free Vallejo paint to try out.
Very cool kit brother
Thanks, glad you liked the video.
I want a model cannon for the mantle no idea why just recently got the urge to get a really nice brass model cannon out of the blue lol
